I've been to many of Ed's concerts and I'm telling you, you can't help but sit in silence and just listen, his talent is absolutely incredible, in my opinion one of the best.

I find these comments kind of insulting. So what if the soldiers aren't shouting and clapping, with smiles spread across there face. They left their family to go fight a war in a different country. And not for like a week, but as long as a year. They don't have to be excited. Just listening to Ed play is dangerous. They could die at any second, even going to the bathroom. Ed was kind enough to go play a show for them, in a dangerous situation and say he enjoyed it. Let's focus on that instead of how "not into it" they look.
Also they were listening to the song, you don't have to be jumping around, screaming and clapping to enjoy music. Ed also doesn't like it when the audience is so close and they start to clap and scream.

Soldiers are silent because they know the true value of emotions doesn't need reflect on your face, it's inside you. They know the value of each smile you give and that knowledge comes from inner self not to be taught in contrast to some comments here saying that they are taught.

It's really a gesture of sheer humbleness on singer's part playing for soldiers despite being a pop sensation.
jason manford said that the best gig he has played was for the troops. main factor being they listened and didnt heckle, these guys get nothing out there, anything is good. having big artists like this shows that they are cared about. I wish they would all come back safe, they are real heroes risking their lives.
