    I quit smoking about two years ago and I am telling you IT IS POSSIBLE!! You can do it!!!
    But for me the most important thing is no longer identifying as a smoker and affirmations, I always thought they were a bit tacky and weird but I used them to help me quit and they were the most powerful motivator, it helped me get to a mental point where smoking was not an option anymore and it made the process easier.
    I smoked for 13 years so triggers were an issue but once you make it past the three day mark, all the physical withdrawals are gone, and you will feel SO much better and it’s much easier to deal with your triggers. Be aware of how you feel.
    If you convince yourself it’s harder to quit than heroin(it’s not) you might be subconsciously telling yourself it’s impossible.
    Here are my big three affirmations I would say in the mirror or in my head every time I had a craving.
    “I feel SO much better when I don’t smoke.”
    “Quitting smoking is possible”
    “I am not a smoker”
    When there is a trigger- “i feel great when I don’t smoke, I don’t need this”
    I am SO glad I quit smoking, I can breath now, food tastes delicious, I can exercise now(I’m a runner-I NEVER would have thought that would come to pass)
    I still have triggers here and there but I have reprogrammed/desensitized myself to those situations by establishing other habits or simply just being present.
    Whoever reads this comment and wants to quit, i know you can do it, if I did it you can and even if you’ve been a smoker 40 years, if you move your arms and control your mind, you can change the habit.
    It was worth the struggle.
    (if you’re struggling and need some support, I am here for anyone who would like to reach out)
    Much love to you all
    Hugs

    I think this woman never smoked. To make it more inconvenient for you to smoke just means that your craving will be more severe. She is talking like this is a habit and not an addiction.

    • @jokl89
      @jokl89 5 років тому +4

      Angela Cole I‘d say it’s both, habit and addiction. But I agree with you. I have a pack of tobacco at home, and it soothes me, that I *could* smoke, I just don’t want to. If I *couldn’t* smoke I would be less relaxed.

    • @sharkysgamingadventures4279
      @sharkysgamingadventures4279 5 років тому

      Angela Cole thank you, your type of comment was just what I was looking for. I honestly know that I would dig in the trunk of my car for one. When she said that really hit me she probably doesn’t know from experience. I actually pictured myself pulling over my car & going to the trunk to get it. Doesn’t matter how inconvenient, an addiction will make you do inconvenient things.

    If you are dizzy via first cigarette in morning be warned. Could be causing blood clots...I learned the hard way. Any advice to stop completely is greatly appreciated and so true major health problems alone don't deter you. Cutting down they just creep up again.

      Since you're 9, it's important to know you have to be very, very careful of things you get used to doing. cigarettes are one...but also, habits of how you treat people, using bad language, how you eat....There are all kinds of bad things people do only because they became accustom to it.
      Once you get used to doing or acting a certain way it's very hard to change. So be wise and smart and avoid ANY kind of bad habit. Don't form any habits that don't help you!
      Good luck!

    It seems another way to weaken triggers would be to change patterns before quitting. Do not smoke at the habitual times, put it off and do it later in an unfamiliar pattern. The new pattern would not be as ingrained and the brain might have the message that it is possible to drink coffee and not smoke, not do it first thing in the morning, etc. This makes more sense than breaking the triggers while in the agony of deprivation which might last for months. I have never seen this suggested.

      @Jeremy Nelson I'm a very habitual smoker and it sucks! Anything I do on a daily basis, (for instance, driving) or anything that makes me think of smoking, I light up. I haven't quit yet however, when I make it harder on myself in those situations, I smoke less. I purposely will leave my cigs at home if I am driving somewhere, making it inconveinent for myself to stop somewhere and buy them. Also, keeping yourself busy with non-smokers that you are friends with really helps. I wish you good luck!

    • @Richannplayshop
      @Richannplayshop 4 роки тому

      This is what I did and am still doing and it's working. When I first started as you said "before quitting," I made sure that I didn't have a cigarette within under an hour between the last one, which was pretty easy, and that was the idea, but I then was also able to break free from having one at those times I had always had one, like when I got into my truck to drive, or after a meal and with coffee. And, for the most part I quickly broke those associations. And, it was easier the next week when I went to every 1.5 hrs. to not smoke during those activities that I use to associate with smoking. I then, increased each week by another half an hour between cigarettes (2 and 2 and a half hours between. And, I wrote my times down). Then, I decided I was ready to cut down to smoking only half of the cigarette each time rather than a whole one. I'm now down to a half of one, or actually 5 drags of a cig., every 3 hrs. or more. My quit date is Jan. 1st, 2020, which is seven and a half weeks from now. (It's Nov. 5th, 2019 now) By then, I will be down to only four drags or less every 6 hrs. which is like about one cigarette a day those last three or so days! This slow turkey method is giving me a lot of time to really THINK about this and to be SOLID that I want to be a full fledged non-smoker from then on. I'm here watching the video because it isn't always easy, particularly when I have time on my hands and sometimes when it gets close to that 3 hr. mark, I have a hard time thinking and focusing and can be reactory. But, experiencing myself this way, I believe, is showing me just how hard and addictive that being a smoker is and which motivates me even more to do this once and for all, because I never want to experience this again! And, I think writing this reply has helped me more than just listening to the video. Or maybe it inspired me to write this to clarify to myself why I want to not smoke anymore. I also hope I can help some one else do the same.

    I have become a chain smoker since I quit working. It’s the first thing I do when I get up. I smoke around 2 packs a day and I have copd and I know it’s killing me but it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I really don’t see how other people quit like they do. If I were hungry I would choose a cigarette over food. I know I’m shortening my life by years. The only time I’m comfortable not smoking is when I’m in a doctors or a dentists waiting room. because I can’t smoke there.

  • @masieldubois6882

    I used to be able to only smoke every once in a while. I’d get bored and remember that I had cigarettes. Then it turned into an everyday thing and started getting in the way of me concentrating at school. Two days ago I decided to quit and I bought nicotine patches. They were expensive but I think it was worth the purchase and I havent smoked yet while wearing one. I do imagine the smell of cigarettes and wanna rip off my nicotine patch but my cravings are definitely waaaaaay less and I just forget about the craving. I keep thinking to myself that this is the first time I’m trying to quit and that I could relapse but I gotta stay strong and go as long as I possible can without smoking.
    Patches are definitely a start but I need to find other ways to help me quit and I think this video will really help

      I used to do the same thing. So funny, laughing by myself. Great comment. I used to smoke exercising in my living room. I always had a cigarette. I don't miss them at all, your brain goes to its natural state and it just goes away. You finally get natural hormones in the brain and the brain learns to not smoke. I didn't realize the anxiety of smoking--always making sure I had some, lighters, matches, etc. When I got snowed in, it was a great feeling not to feel compelled to get outside and go through all this hell to get a pack. It's a great thing not to have cigarettes in daily life.

    im 14 years old and ive been smoking for about a year, ive been smoking on whatever i can get my hands on, newports, marlboro reds, camel crush, anything. i get caught by my parents all the time, but i feel like theres another person controlling me. i could go a decent amount of time without smoking, but when i think about it, i need a cigarette, the other times i just need one and i cant resist, i know that im very young and underage, but ive tried the juul to stop, but since im so young, i dont have money to buy pods, i am very aware that the juul has the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes, i smoke and juul, i want to stop, but at the same time i dont, i have friends the same age who smoke, and others who dont, i dont know what to do, im wishing i could have a one on one talk with a previous smoker who has stopped, please comment to help

      Dear Madden. I felt bad that no- one posted a comment for you. So I decided to. I am 40 and began to smoke at your age. I was hooked after my first cigarette. I still smoke, I smoke heavily. But reflecting on this and looking back I was so so young that it would have much easier for me to quit. You have youth and vitality on your side which will help you quit. Don't worry just take it one day and a time. Please start now. Best wishes x

    Driving is a big trigger for me, I cannot drive without lighting a cigarette. Also while I’m drinking coffee, and after I eat. Also it is impossible for me to drink alcohol and not smoke , if I don’t have cigarettes I would rather not drink at all because it would be like torture to drink without cigarettes. But alcohol is a trigger for every smoker I think.

    To quit smoking is not an easy thing ! A person must have a strong will and strong decision and must sacrifice a lot .I've tried many times to quit and the last time was 5 months of non- cigarettes but I ended up smoking again .. I know lots of people who quit for 1 / 2 years and were back to smoking again. I advice my fellow smokers who quit recently to stay away as much as as possible from smoking zones .

Then started vaping every1 else was and every1 was saying wasnt that bad for your health so thought why not.god knows why but I did and I regret it big time.This lead me to smoking.with everything going on in the world I thought I'm going to quit for my family, but this time I'm going to do it.It feels harder because I've done 3years b4 but I'm going to do this.with the help from my wife and kids and staying strong I will do it.2weeks in smoke free.you can do it just believe 💪

    I'll just shamefully admit I'm a helpless smoker...cigs are my painkiller so I can't live without...at least not yet...I'm a loner, no friend, so the first tip doesn't apply to me. My major trigger is my annoying family who can only judge me if they know I'm still smoking and for some reasons I'm stuck with them. Have tried many times to quit but still continuing...actually just the thought of quitting put me to unease situation where I can sleep dreaming about " I have to quit...I have to quit" till I wake up. I've found myself smoke less if I just don't think about quitting anymore; that I can smoke down to 6 cigs per day. I know it's worse than completely free from cigs but it's better than smoking like a chimney...for now.

      Broski you are just afraid that quitting smoking will get you more depression, but it is actually opposite of that. Triggers are gonna be there for the whole life the game is to avoid them, what could possibly go wrong? I myself am in journey to quit and I am 2 week down , I always tell myself what's the worst would happen to me if I quit smoking and then actually tell myself the benifits of quitting smoking.

    I don’t have a problem with cigarettes, my problem is with weed, I’ve been smoking weed for almost 3 years now, I started when I was 16, I’m now 18... that says something right? I was young when I started and I’m young enough to stop... I know I can stop, I know I can but whenever something bad happens or whenever I start feeling anxious that’s when it hits me the most and my mind thinks that I HAVE/NEED to have weed... but it’s literally making me broke and me and my boyfriend are wanting to move out and get our own apartment next year, so that’s another reason why I need to quit.. I need to save my money and stop spending it on weed.. so it’s day 1 and I have the sweats and I have heart burn but I know it’ll only be like that for a couple days... until my body gets used to not smoking, right?

    I wanna share my experience I used to smoke a lot let's say 1 pack of 10 a day for 6 years straight , the thought that what am I doing with my life comes in my thought everyday my friends always denied that they are addicted they said I can quit whenever I want , but I was different I accepted that , yes I am addicted and its a problem ,, so yes guys this is step 1
    Accept it that u can't control yourself on this that u are addicted.
    Then I started running every morning at 5 am I went to the ground I smoke a ciggerette I run 2 miles and then I smoke one more ciggerette for next 4 months this kept on going and my running time at the start was 40 minutes for 2 miles after 4 months it was 30 minutes per 2 miles I realized I was not running I was crawling may be even worse , but I was improving well at that time it was just 1 ciggerette after running , see I improved at that front too , after next 6 months I am completing 2 miles in 15 minutes and I don't smoke at all yeeahh I am a champ now and you can be too all you need is a passion stronger then the smoking I increased my speed because I realized that smoking was a hurdle it was stopping me from my true potential
