4 weeks ago i watched this video.... I havent smoked a cigarette since!!!! 45 years of smoking and i just stopped ...it wasEASY ...SMOKING IS HARD !!!! Im going through a major life change right now and focusing on other things are helping me so much... God is so good and i belive brought me this video ....THANK YOU
May all of you dear souls trying to quit smoking be greatly inspired by this video to kick the habit! I know you will do it!! 🙏Thank you Todd for the time you take to share!
Your video reassures me that I am not alone. This is a habit I have struggled with for a long time. I give up, sometimes for months, and then a trigger pulls me back into this old behaviour., and it happens when I get pulled into the chaos of life and I become overloaded. This is when meditation takes a back seat. Listening to you reacknowledges for me how powerful and healing meditation is. Blessings to you 🙏
Zen style meditation works, in my experience. This is anecdotal, but for me the problem was that the physical withdrawal would lead my mind to start making excuses, even when I knew that those conscious thoughts in my head telling me to smoke were invasive, in a sense, and rooted in pathos, rather than reason. Meditation helped me because I was able to practice catching thoughts of any kind, stopping them in their tracks, and letting them evaporate so they could never reach their conclusion. You just count your breaths and when you find your mind wandering, you stop the thought where it is, refocus on experiencing your breathing, and then start counting from one again. The more you practice, the higher you can count before losing focus, and eventually you don't have to count at all. The ability to do this is the way you can catch thoughts which will convince you to smoke. It doesn't make the physical symptoms go away, but it gives you a way of quarantining them off from the rational and conscious part of your mind so they can never get control it and lead you to the decision to smoke again. It's like you're barring them from the cockpit, essentially (I can't speak to other forms of meditation. This is just how I did it). There's also a thing which happens where it feels like, rather than running away from the experience of withdrawal, you're choosing to experience it fully, and while it's still uncomfortable and awful, this decision to face it robs it of its power to control you. I noticed that when I was doing something like working, socializing, or whatever, and had my mind engaged by that activity, it was at that point where my attention was elsewhere that I was weakest and would fall prey to the urge to smoke. If the urge appeared, I'd just go and do it in order to appease it so I could then focus on what I was doing originally. I guess it's because when you're trying to quit but fall off the wagon and decide to smoke, you're always running away from that experience of withdrawal and buying it off, so to turn around and face it directly and experience it fully is to truly commit to quitting. You're always running away from the withdrawal or urges and that's the whole problem. The way to beat it is to stop running away, focus on the withdrawal or urge when it appears, give it your full attention, and face it down. It's like you have to keep an eye on it and stay vigilante or else it will find a way to worm its way into your conscious mind. When the withdrawal got particularly bad in the first week of trying to quit, I would always think of Thich Quang Duc and reason that if meditation enabled him to what he did, as horrible as it was, surely it would enable me to withstand a fit of nicotine withdrawal. Or I'd think of the Nancy character in the first Nightmare on Elm Street film in the final scene where she turns her back on Freddy Krueger and he evaporates because she's made the decision not to give him power by fearing him any longer. At that point I'd go meditate and get control of my mind again. It wasn't easy, but unlike everything else I tried, it actually worked. This was my experience and it was the only way I was able to quit. Your mileage may vary of course, but meditation was the thing that worked for me.
Wow thank you for sharing, i have never meditated before but i keep getting the thought that i must power though and experience the pain of craving as the only way to finally conquer this nicotine mind control. I have been conditioning my mind the last couple of days seeing myself as a non smoker and at times imagining the freedom while cutting back by about half of my daily dose. You have convinced me that this method might be what i need to fulfill my desire to stop smoking
Addictions are unconscious programs, the body knows how to do it better than our conscious mind, in order to break addictions, we have to be greater than our environment and body, sit your body in the present moment, once u do that it's a victory, 🙏😊
I was able to quit smoking 35 years ago - no real problems. Alcohol another huge issue for me. I will listen to this podcast daily but will exchange the addiction. Will you do a video for all of us who want to quit drinking? So grateful I found your channel 💛
I have been trying to quit smoking from a long time and than last month I started listening to your channel. I started meditation and it has helped a lot, haven't stopped smoking completely but I know I will get there. Thanks Todd!
pleasure seeking is not for the highest good. thats beautiful. its hard to smoke, easy to quit. suffering and pleasure is the same thing. very profound. pleasure seeking leads to suffering. ❤
I love you , your teaching has so much love in it , there is no " have to" kind of energy it's effortless and smooth like a floweing river , I resonate with you so much Because of your teaching's soothing nature I find so much peace ,calm and love whenever I watch your content , it's just raise my vibration And it always ensure my knowing of everything is perfect 💐💐😊 Love you💐❤🙏
He is absolutely right. The book Allan Carrs Easy Way to Stop Smoking says the same thing. I stopped using the book, but now smoking again. So I'm going to put this into practice.
This is great. I am fully aware of all the things you said about how smoking literally does nothing but I haven't seemed to be able to stop with just that knowledge. I haven't meditated before but everything you said made so much sense I am ready !
We learn, evolve, and gain wisdom, only through contrast of the dark and the light. When we go into the dark (hopefully as consciously as possible), this is when we gain wisdom and realize that we do not have to go there again, then motivating us to shift back into alignment with who we really are and what truly resonates with our spirit, which is going to be beneficial for you, and all the beings around you.
This was very encouraging! ... I'm going to listen to this everyday as a guide to stop smoking... It seems very doable with the meditation approach and I agree the psychological aspect is strong but I'm ready to give it a go... All your videos have been very insightful... 🙏
Today I’m on day 2 of stopping smoking E-CIGS. My son.. 15… asked me if I would stop smoking e cigs and that they are worse since I have heart issues. So I threw it out while driving. And I promised to never pick it up again. We shall see. I battle with anxiety/ panic attacks and depression. So I pray it works 😊
Just wanted to share that i watched this on the 6th of April ‘I’d no intentions of quitting to be honest ‘my favourite thing was a coffee and a cigarette 🤷🏼♀️also that day was also my uncles 5th anniversary and something was just niggling me throughout the day about smoking ‘after hopping into bed that night i was on UA-cam and just happened to see this so clicked on it ‘and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since 🤷🏼♀️ I smoked at least twenty a day and smoking at least 35 years ‘I’d absolutely no cravings for some reason and used nothing no vaping no patches nothing ‘believe me if I can do it I believe anyone can 🙏🥲..now all I need to do is quit coffee 😂………………really hope this video helps you if you need it and we’ll done to all that it has helped 🙏
it happened that i once quit and had no cravings as well. What would say as to the reason why you had no cravings? Maybe a belief, thought, mindest, state of mind or something else?
@@ElevatedConcsiousness sorry only seen your message now ‘I’ve really no idea ‘I know I have great will power but this seems different’ still haven’t touched a cigarette 🙏 even though it’s being a difficult few months ‘the higher power maybe 🤷🏼♀️ who knows ‘but it’s definitely down to this video x
This is excellent advice, I've been researching smoking addiction for many months, to help myself and friends. The explanation mirrors the neuroscience. Good work.
That was very inspirational.. Thanks. I've smoked for quite a long time now and I know exactly what you mean by saying that it's a mental addiction/repetition. I will use this. Thanks again. Blessings friend
Makes sense! I have an issue with coffee too, I get decaf and don’t need caffeine really in any drink, but it’s a habit to get a cup of coffee throughout my day cause it’s just…what I do…and I feel weird when I don’t have it next to me. I don’t like smoking, it doesn’t even make me feel good, but I feel very uncomfortable not taking a smoke break, like I don’t know what to do with myself even though I have a bunch of things I could be doing…anyway lol this helped a lot, thank you
I've been strugling to quit it eventhough I try to be fit with exercise and yoga but haven't really delved into meditation and how it can help you to quit smoking. Thank you so much for this video. :D
It's funny because meditation is what gave me the motivation to quit 🙂. After preparing to attempt to quit( picking the day, accuiring patches, clearing out all smoking paraphernalia like ashtrays etc, searching n saving hypnosis stop smoking videos i was ready) i had great success the first 2 days ( smoked like 1 each day) by day 3 i was up to a couple. Im finding it easier than i thought but still yet to completely stop. This video gave me some revelations. My effort continues because i know i can do this Ive smoked for 45 yrs almost 2 pks a day sometimes. It getting in the way of this spirtual quest i am now on soooo its got to go lol. I didnt realize i was already subscribed to ur channel lol. I mustve watched or have done a meditation on ur channel before. 😊 Wish me strength ❤
If oral fixation is the problem, switching to gum would be an easy task. But, there is much more to smoking addiction than oral fixation. Oral fixation, which can have many causes, is always exacerbated by smoking. Smoking doesn't just reinforce the fixation either. It makes it stronger due to the nicotine withdrawal, which creates added stress and anxiety which makes oral fixation worse. The more calm awareness we bring to these fixative impulses, the more we can simply observe them and consciously choose not to act on them.
i greened out the first time i started smoking like sick,ill...and when i quit for 7 months with Using Zyban/Wellbutrin and then i restarted again??? i greened out again like sick,ill....this is my third try...hopefully third time's a charm...

Thank you for addressing what others do not regarding smoking...the rewiring of the nervous system. ❤
This was the most helpful video to help me quit! I just told myself it was easy to not smoke! I appreciate you so much! Thank you 🙏

So underrated video. It should be viral❤. Thanks mate. Jai shree Ram
How about meditating on the phrase "I do not like being a smoker"
Thankyou Todd i have always had these addictions 💚 🙏
Let go or be dragged!! Thank you for this!
Oral fixation. Understanding why some of us have it would be a good start.
If oral fixation is the problem, switching to gum would be an easy task. But, there is much more to smoking addiction than oral fixation. Oral fixation, which can have many causes, is always exacerbated by smoking.
