- It's 1946. Eight years after he was sent back in time by the Weeping Angels, Rory Williams is dictating his biography...
'Rory's Story' was specially created as an introduction to #BiggerOnTheInside, the worldwide watchalong of the Doctor Who episode 'The Doctor's Wife' , which took place online on Saturday 11 April 2020.
Written by Neil Gaiman and starring Arthur Darvill as Rory, 'Rory's Story' was home-produced remotely during the 'lockdown' period of the COVID-19 outbreak in April 2020.
All involved in the making of this video contributed their time and talent for free. Rory never gets or got the credit he deserved, he was such a unique companion. He wasn’t enamored with the Doctor, he was just there for Amy. He grew as a self doubting nerd into a hero, way better than any that’s since followed.

It does make you wonder whether Amy wrote that into the Melody Malone books. A love interest who keeps dying in every book, but somehow comes back in the next one seems like the kind of side plot that would make a mystery novel quite interesting.
Two minutes and twenty four seconds of Arthur Darvill effortless slipping back into the role with such understatement that it nearly brought me to tears.

Seriously. I saw him a bit in the meantime on Legends of Tomorrow but he got this realistic and believable and really well-nuanced in a single take. Arthur crushed it. Like you said, understated, enough that it's more of a show of force of talent than something super splashy =)

Rory and Amy continue to be my favourite companions.
The fact that Arthur has this in him after so many years, Rory’s ability to be the sane man in a mad world and approach the absurd with a human acceptance. And how he doesn’t try to phrase this as a story or a fantasy. He treats them like loved memories.

what made doc no11 amy and rorys relationship unique compared to alot of ten and nines era was that
they were a family as in a true family amy and rory where married and river wa their daughter making the doctor their son in law and it sadly all ended in tradegy and loneleness
amy had to live for another 8 years after rory died then she died alone
river died in the libary looking into the face of the man she loved who didn't even know who she was
and the doctor "died" alone on trenzalore.
Gaiman would have done a better job of sending Rory and Amy off then...sigh
Rory's changed a lot since his adventures with The Doctor ended. He's changed from a dopey young man to a more mature husband and father.

I say the same. He IS my role model. And appart from having Amy, but the way he took all the crazyness with naturality. Even without any clue of what was happening, he went along with the Doctor and Amy. And he was brave, and smart.

I'm in tears. This roughly two minutes are written with more heart than the last two seasons. It was a master performance as always by Arthur Darvill and... God. I miss when the show was like that. Please more!

@@johnbeaker8721 Moffat can write brilliantly. We're lucky we got him and Russel T Davis. We didn't know how much we'd miss them until we got Chibnall... Some of Moffat's work wasn't great, but 90% of it is better than 100% of Chibnall's.
JakeTheGearHeart He had some great episodes, but he's horribly inconsistent and the way he wrote the companions was awful.
He's also crap on Sherlock, which was mostly what I was alluding to.

And at least Moffat's episodes stand out, Chibnall has the blandest companions, blandest stories, and everything is filled with plot holes. Moffat had a great understanding of time in Doctor Who, more than Davis, and much much much more than Chibnall.

I didn't realize how much I needed an Amy and Rory show, until now. Get to it, BBC!
I would binge watch a spinoff of Amy&Rory,but they need to figure out a way for the Doctor to go back in time to visit them. He can't go back to New York,but what if Amy&Rory decided to move to a different city/state,or even go back to the U.K. to live. The doctor(11th,if Matt Smith would come back for it)could get a call from A&R letting him know where they are. He could then visit,possibly with Riversong tagging along so that she can see how her family are.
@@n.e.sullivan7427 Wasn't the 10th doctor in NY for an episode during the time the Ponds would have been there? Could be interesting to see them meet up as well... Also, the 12th Doctor had been trying to fix the problem of the Tardis being able to get into NY (I think it was mentioned in Dr Mysterio) so maybe he could see them too. LOL, I"ll take the Ponds with any Doctor we can get!

This was lovely. Glad River got referenced at least via the Doctor being Anthony's brother-in-law, though I do wish she had gotten a mention of her own (unless you go with the theory that River visits them so no mention was needed).
Isn't it canon that River visits them? After all, some time after Angels Take Manhattan, Amy and River collaborate to get the Melody Mallone book published. I could also have sworn there's an off-hand reference to her visiting them in a later story as well.

Why couldn't the Doctor visit them?
It's confirmed in Alex Kingston's book "The Ruby's Curse" that she goes and visits them in New York. The TARDIS can't land there ever again, but she can get through with her Vortex Manipulator.
I can't believe we're getting new Rory Williams content in the year of our lord 2020.

Rory was a side car to the Amy story line and should have been given more but at least he was treated better than Danny Pink (Clara's side kick). Moffatt wasn't good with the secondary players. He totally undersold Bill. Moffatt started out great however in the end it was time for him to move on.
I instantly teared up when he started talking about people’s bravery and resilience. That’s what it comes down to, in the end, isn’t it? We’ll all get through this with a bit of wartime spirit. Thanks for doing this, Arthur, Karen, Steven et al. ❤️
I always felt that Amy and Rory showed us what marriage is supposed to be~"together or not at all." I adored seeing this small epilogue; brought back the feels and the tears. But this was truly a gift--thank you all!

ATOMiiCChicken I believe it’s a perk of being a companion. The Doctor takes his companions’ phones, does something he calls “jiggery pokery” and the phone not only has free universal roaming, but stays charged.

Rory is the Chuck Norris of Doctor Who. Nothing can kill him. Think about it: the Weeping Angels had to transport him back in time to kill him and then he only died due to old age. The man is awesome!
That is how Weeping Angels hunt and kill though. They send you back in time and they let you live to death. They feed of off the life you could have had in your true time streem.

This is canon. Nobody can convince me otherwise.
It is canon, nearly everything in Doctor Who is canon. Even the really silly stuff like the Tenth Doctor getting a pet cat he named Rose.
Tardis Fandom's definition of canon is something along the lines of, it has a narrative and it has characters from Doctor Who. Even John Bishop playing Dan on his show could be considered as canon.
It's so good to see Rory again - one of my all time favorite companions. Arthur Darvill still adds so many layers to the character, and so much perfectly pitched emotion. I'm glad this wasn't just a quick recap of all the Rory Death self-parody and also included some contemplative and tender moments, tied to today but still working for the canonical setting. I have missed Rory a great deal but I'm glad we got these few moments together. Thank you to Arthur and to Neil Gaiman for a great script. I hope this won't be the last adventure for Rory - he still has so much to give.

Words to live by, the message behind these words might not be as complex as I think them to be, but that's the truth of what's going on now, if we're brave, optimistic and resilient this pandemic won't be as bad as we think it is, it's still a serious issue but sometimes just pushing forward is the best way to go

And in a decade or two the Doctor, whoever that is…, can encounter Rory again, as they are out of the temporal dead zone, and have a adventure (don't tell Amy, she'll be so cross).
He could even become a Wilfred Mott style character in later life, like the Brigadier was as well.
And who is their adopted son?
What if he's already a character in a previous Doctor Who series (if only Sgt Benson was called Williams)
Or he could be one later on, a person who knows way too much about the Doctor but keeps it close to their chest.
Or even a adopted daughter, who doesn't go by her maiden name, till one day she casually mentions to the Doctor that she was adopted by the Williams/Pond.
Or just enjoy the fun when she invites the Doctor to meet her folks in the 1970's or 80's and they are…

I am in love with this 😂 I loved the ponds, such a crazy timeline, so many deaths and revivals but still one of my favourite companions. This has made my quarantine a little brighter ☺️
Just finished The Angels Take Manhattan and this scenes just make me so happy. Amy and Rory will definitely be my favorite companions for a while, maybe forever. Still quite disappointed that they could've had a much better ending- living happily in their own time while still quite missing The Doctor but knowing he'll be fine travelling around with someone else and running into danger as always. But oh well, it was a very sad ending yet I know that they weren't lying when they said that they lived happily. 'Cause it's Amy and Rory. Sure they may have their downs but I know they'll always get through it.
How Arthur was able to portray Rory so beautifully in this extra is so beautiful though. Even after many years, he still got it.
