This is probably the best short that they had for this series. It bring more closure to the episode and tied in Brian who was somewhat involved in the Doctor's affairs. This is making me cry. It was my dad's 75th birthday just yesterday, and three days ago his older brother passed away suddenly. My mum and dad have gone to my uncle's funeral in the country. He was the only sibling in Australia; the others lived in England and he's only got two other siblings left, AFAIK. The last time he would have seen them in person (except the brother) was in 1987, when we flew to England. He at least got the opportunity to see his brother a couple years ago. A picture they took at the time indicated that my uncle had not done so well, probably due to heavy drinking and smoking; you'd honestly think they were father and son, how old my uncle looked. In 1997, they looked very similar. I don't always get along with my dad, and a great many things about him royally shit me off at times, but this makes me cry. I want to hug him. At least he's got a grandson on the way, sometime this month. I'm gonna be an uncle!
This is the best thing he ever wrote for DW in my opinion, a touching, well performed goodbye. It helps that for me, his best episodes were when he was writing for the 11, Amy & Rory combo.
It's episodes like this that really convince me that Chibnall was screwed over by higher ups when he was writing for 13, because he's clearly a very good writer but so many moments in 13s run (especially the first season) are just so clunky and awkward, and I think that's because he was told he had to include at least X amount of representation for different things and address X number of issues and so he tried to stuff them in which makes them feel forced
@@J75Pootle I don't think that's true at all, he's demonstrated he's capable of good writing in bursts but if you look at his earlier Doctor Who contributions (which are awful), the 2nd and 3rd seasons of Broadchurch and a lot of the mixed bag that is Torchwood, he just isn't up to the task of writing consistently well
This is what I love this show! It's not only about "An alien man travelling through time and space with human companions", it's also about the consequences in the lives of those human companion and the choices they make. Beautiful video by the way!

iLegendaryGaming | FIFA 15, Minecraft, GTA 5 and More! I didn't like how the Ponds died by jumping off a building, but they survived, but OH WAIT they died because the paradox didn't kill every Angel. It's like, write one ending for your episode, Moffat. Don't make the audience invest emotionally in one ending, then yank it away and replace it with a different one.
TheKiss Rory got a shit send off aswell, when he jumped, the Doctor didn't even call his name, and then that angel just took him by surprise, and then that was it, Amy got all the emotions, and big send off, fuck all for Rory
iLegendaryGaming | FIFA 15, Minecraft, GTA 5 and More! That's kind of how Rory was treated for most of his time on the show, tbh. That's one of the reasons I didn't like the Ponds much. Rory was much more likeable than Amy but he never got anything interesting to do. He was always just wandering off or getting killed or captured so Amy could be cool.
TheKiss I like both of them equally, and I like that they introduced Rory's Dad to give him more of a life. But yeah, you do get the feeling The Doctor didn't even like Rory
what in the tardis made them not put this at the end! i felt disappointed with angels take Manhattan because i loved rory and amy and they were my favorite companions and it felt like they had the worst ending.
+David Blake Two things: The first is that had they included this, the story would have had two separate endings-the result would be that it would weaken both. And, to be honest, the Amy/Doctor ending is more important to the story. The second thing is that they already did the "letter from long ago" in "Blink". It's the kind of plot device that works, but only if it's used very sparingly. It can't become a thing that always happens when someone ends up stuck back in time.

A touching tribute to the characters. I really like this ! Yes, as improvised as this is, it brings at least some sence of closure in regards to Rory's closest relatives. Good work.
Chris Chibnall please bring this passion into series 12. I understand what you were trying to do with series 11, but I think some emotional storytelling like this can really enhance Doctor 13 and her companions story.
@@tardistime6857 you don't have to apologize. Chibnall missed an opportunity to develop the better side of his storytelling. Missed opportunities happen, it's pretty human. Plus I'm not that down about Doctor Who anymore, I went and found a lovely time travel gem called 12 Monkeys (TV series not the movie but it's still kinda cool). One of Best Time Travel stories out there imo.
I wondered for YEARS why they never shot this scene. I always wondered until I rewatched and googled. Just when my heart couldn’t break anymore for him… he’s not left alone in the world. He has his grandson. 😭😭😭 I was sobbing!!
Character development and expansion is what Chibnall is best at, he understands these characters, especially how to write the doctor, this and Whitaker’s talent as an actor is what makes me super excited for series 11
Every Doctor Who episode Chiball wrote is the same. Just look at them. There's some companion in danger, there's a countdown, and the Doctor essentially solves the say by waving his sonic screwdriver around a bit.
I'm so glad they released this even though they couldn't film it; It's such a nice nod to the original weeping angel episode, Brian was too awesome for us to never find out what became of him, and it was nice for Rory to get a little character moment all to himself. This does make me wonder, however, if Brian (and Tabetha and Augustus, for that matter) ever found out about River. Given that Anthony lived in new York, he might actually have run into her younger self at some point, or she could have visited him after their parents were dead.
For those asking, this scene was never shot because one of the actors availability fell through. I'm assuming it was Mark Williams, because if it was the guy playing Anthony they'd have been able to replace him easily.
This was great. Sad, but still amazing. I think that the saddest part about this is that there's no mention of River. You can tell, just from the way Rory talks about Anthony, that Brian doesn't know about her, and now he never will. He may know about one grandchild, but there's still another out there he's never even met and doesn't even know anything about. That's the sad thing.
Why? Just why? Was this never shot?! This was an ending that actually respected Rory as a character and gave him a proper ending! I might have forgived all of the plot holes and badly written stuff if this scene had actually been there! Screw you Moffat :'(
I can think of a couple of reasons: The first is that the episode already had an ending--Amy's afterword in the book. Having effectively two endings weakens both of them. And as much as I liked Rory, the Amy/Doctor relationship was more important for the story than the Rory/Brian one. The second was that they already used the "letter delivered by a relative" device in "Blink". It's clever, but it becomes less clever the more often it's used.
It was actually just because they ran out of time and never got the chance to film it and all. He was a busy man! Working for the ministry of magic and all.
The emotional impact of the scene speaks far greater volumes than being 'clever' ever will. Not to mention that it touches upon something the show jettisoned along with the rest of the RTD Era. Consequences of what The Doctor's life can do to impact the loved ones of his companions.
@@TheSkully343 Solidus-Skully I believe the Moffat Era dealt with those issues even more than the Davies era. I found that a lot of what I remember from the RTD's era focuses on the Doctor's problems and how they affect him, whereas most of what I remember from Moffat's run focuses on how the Doctor impacts other people. though, both runs focus on both thos aspects, I believe that Moffat does more with the affects on other characters than Davies does. That being said, i have definitely re-watched more Moffat run stuff than RTD run.
this should have been filmed... They got rory to read the letter aloud, but they couldnt get the actors to do this little minisode :( imagine if this happened right at the end of the episode. it would have been so terrible sad
Because Moffat doesn't give a shit about Rory, he just loved Amy. When they both jumped off of the building, the Doctor never called Rory's name, only Amy's. Did the Doctor even care about Rory?
Y'know....in some ways, it's better that this WASN'T shot...it allows the fans to put themselves in Brian's place so much easier...and I think it was more effective this way,
Why i just found this... I am crying.. I was so into Doctor Who 5-7 seasons. And really in that 3 ppl. After that I never watched Doctor Who... my childhood memories with Doctor Who. Especially Doctor & Amy & Rory
There are a couple of possibilities (and this is largely conjecture, because I don't have an "in" with the Beeb or the Moff). It looks like the scene got as far as the "storyboard" stage. They may have realized the episode was going to run long, and there wasn't enough "trimming" that they could do in the rest of the episode to fit this in without the trimming upsetting the pacing of the rest of the episode. Another (possibly related) reason is that if you include the "afterward" in the book and this scene, you've got essentially two endings to the story. And as beautiful and touching as this scene ends, the "afterward" fits the flow of the story better-really the whole episode ties in with that ending. Also, the "letter from the long gone person" had already been done in "Blink", and they may have decided not to plow the same ground twice. It's not uncommon for actors to do ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) for several episode in one trip to the recording studio (assuming they've got the scripts done). Darvill's voice-over could have been done several months before the scene got cut, but before they decided to actually film it. It may have even been recorded at the same time as Karen's VO for the episode--booking studio time is normally in increments of one hour, and the rates (at least 10 years ago in LA) started at about $500/hour
@@archiereilly419 Except that this was essentially written as a postscript to TATM to explain to Brian that, while he never saw them again, that they had lived a good life together. If it wasn't written for that purpose, then what episode would it have gone with?
I wonder how they interacted, River and Anthony, because River would have been able to, in some way, as a Time Lord, been able to travel back to see her parents and brother and though I have seen this before I do wonder still what it would have been like to see those two interact with each other, see if she was a great big sister and what not, hell, maybe she didn't know? And it really irritates me. another example is the twelfth doctor who was really responsible for bill potts getting a hole blown into her chest, and then being converted into the early version of the cyberman. the doctor casually put his feet up in the tardis and had missy lead the mission along with bill. missy had a sonic screwdriver in her umbrella, and the doctor had sonic screwdriver and shades, either of which capable of disarming that stupid idiot who shoots bill. weve seen the eleventh doctor using sonic blasts from the screwdriver to blast weapons out of the hands of opponents all the time. and the twelfth doctor's sonic tech is totally equal to the eleventh's.he should have disarmed the man's weapon, then got them all back on the tardis and departed.
I can't even look at the video... I'm crying so hard
Crystal Wong Your profile picture explains what you looked like!
Majorbomper yes, why yes it does :)
LITERALLY CRYING :((
It would be more intense if it was included in the scene.. GAHD, just.. Gah! It's sad and beautiful at the same time
***** Moffat didn't write this scene.
I was fine until I heard Rory's voice. Now I'm here with tears streaming down my face. WTH!?
I am sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences to you and your family.
No, it's alright, someone stuck onions in my eyes.
Someone stuck onions in my heart.
Someone stuck onions up my heart. I'm chocking
This is a proper denouement for Amy, Rory, and Brian.
It's a crime that this hasn't been committed to film... yet.
*sigh*
I am crying... But I am also really happy that Brian got to hear from Rory one last time...
Don’t underestimate the influence of Gold’s music on the emotional impact of this scene.
It's crazy how it works with just pictures, music and a little bit of imagination. Thank You.
Wow. 9 Years Later and this short STILL makes me cry. And to think, Chris FRIGGIN’ Chibnall wrote this. Holy Shit
This is the best thing he ever wrote for DW in my opinion, a touching, well performed goodbye.
It helps that for me, his best episodes were when he was writing for the 11, Amy & Rory combo.
@@JamesTobiasStewart 100% Agreed
You can say whatever you want on Chris’ run of Doctor Who, but I’ll always be grateful for this
river has a brother :)
Well Anthony was adopted, so not blood siblings at least.
but still siblings :)
김나은 why couldn't they make a child together?
busi magen oh i see, wow
because before the events of A good man goes to war, apparently the woman with the patch and his team make Amy steril, something like that she says in the episode Asylum of the daleks, that's why they can't have more childrens :(

They should have filmed this it would have pulled more heart strings but I love it

Wow. If "The Angels Take Manhattan" had ended this way, I would have actually liked it.
Same, the whole Doctor going back to Amy as a child just didn't make any sense
iLegendaryGaming | FIFA 15, Minecraft, GTA 5 and More!
Wow that was so sad. They should have filmed that. :(
what in the tardis made them not put this at the end! i felt disappointed with angels take Manhattan because i loved rory and amy and they were my favorite companions and it felt like they had the worst ending.
+David Blake It is a fantastic scene, but it sadly fits nowhere in the actual episode.
***** fair point, i still felt kinda disappointed with amy/rorys ending.
*****
Possibly. Perhaps they couldn't get Karen and Mark Williams back at that point. It might have cost too much money to film.
+David Blake I recall reading somewhere that that the actor who played Rory's dad wasn't available in time. :/
It's amazing how still images and only Rory's voice could make me tear up. Bravo.
I always wondered what had happened to Amy and Rory after they disappeared. And this makes me so happy.
How Moffat was a troll:
Doctor: Some of them died..but not them Brian, never them.
*AFTER ONE EPISODE*
Amy and Rory: lol bye we'll die ok.
moffat: lol
me: lol.wthoabmioahaekodkgaokhoawtkhaaothkaowhkoawkht
*help me*
Rule 1: doctor lies.
Why would I laugh at this comment....
they didn't die
Nicole Song it showed on the grave at what year they died.
They died but it wasn’t because of the Doctor. He tried his best to save them both but they just…..lived out their lives in the past and they were happy ones.
A touching tribute to the characters. I really like this ! Yes, as improvised as this is, it brings at least some sence of closure in regards to Rory's closest relatives. Good work.
How did all these cut onions suddenly get into my room?
AMY & RORY WILL REMAIN FOREVER IN MY HEART 😭😭
Arthur Weasley finally has a life as a muggle but HE STILL LOST HIS SON!!!!!
Chris Chibnall please bring this passion into series 12. I understand what you were trying to do with series 11, but I think some emotional storytelling like this can really enhance Doctor 13 and her companions story.
He didn’t sorry
@@tardistime6857 you don't have to apologize. Chibnall missed an opportunity to develop the better side of his storytelling. Missed opportunities happen, it's pretty human. Plus I'm not that down about Doctor Who anymore, I went and found a lovely time travel gem called 12 Monkeys (TV series not the movie but it's still kinda cool). One of Best Time Travel stories out there imo.
THIS SHOULD BE FILMED. I'M CRYING RN, THIS IS THE MOST EMOTIONAL THING EVER AND IT IS NOT EVEN FILMED
So emotional. Come back Amy and Rory, please
Gets me crying every time I watch it. I so wish they'd filmed this.
I wondered for YEARS why they never shot this scene. I always wondered until I rewatched and googled. Just when my heart couldn’t break anymore for him… he’s not left alone in the world. He has his grandson. 😭😭😭 I was sobbing!!
I think watching this would’ve felt more heartbreaking 😭
I've seen this particular episode at least a dozen time and I bawl like a baby every single time.
i'm not crying... *sobs* there's something in my eyes....
OMG.... THE FEELS!!!
If Chris Chibnall can capture what he did here in the new series of Doctor Who in 2018...
...then the future will be in safe hands.
Wish fulfilled.
He's a Time Lord
Character development and expansion is what Chibnall is best at, he understands these characters, especially how to write the doctor, this and Whitaker’s talent as an actor is what makes me super excited for series 11
This comment was made before Chris Chibnall was announced to replace Moffat as a writer.
That's what we all thought.....
I realized Chris Chibnall made Rory's dad, yeah? And he wrote this too?
He'll make a great show runner in that case.
he wll
He also wrote the Cyberwomen episode of Torchwood, so...it will be at least be interesting.
TheJrbdog every writer has there ups and downs
Every Doctor Who episode Chiball wrote is the same. Just look at them. There's some companion in danger, there's a countdown, and the Doctor essentially solves the say by waving his sonic screwdriver around a bit.
I come from the future. Moffat was better.
'Cus, you know, Angels in Manhattan didn't give me the feels enough as it is

I'd never seen this before till today, and it brought it all back new... I'm tears over Amy and Rory again, in 2020.
The feels are too much....
My heart.... my heart.... something is happening to my heart!
Don't die. XD
I was wondering about this very thing not that long ago. "What about Rory's dad, Brian?" So glad I found this.
I really needed this closure. I don't understand why it wasn't filmed. Seems like a perfect epilogue.
The fact that this was written by CHRIS CHIBNALL-
IKR
For those asking, this scene was never shot because one of the actors availability fell through. I'm assuming it was Mark Williams, because if it was the guy playing Anthony they'd have been able to replace him easily.
This was great. Sad, but still amazing.
I think that the saddest part about this is that there's no mention of River. You can tell, just from the way Rory talks about Anthony, that Brian doesn't know about her, and now he never will. He may know about one grandchild, but there's still another out there he's never even met and doesn't even know anything about. That's the sad thing.
Only 9 years later UA-cam found me worthy enough to put this in my suggestions! Okay. I fell in love with the show only 9 months ago, but still!
So beautiful! THANK YOU! How could any Whovian not LOVE this?!
Probably the only good thing Chibnal did for Doctor Who and it sadly never made it to screen.
Well said
Why? Just why? Was this never shot?! This was an ending that actually respected Rory as a character and gave him a proper ending! I might have forgived all of the plot holes and badly written stuff if this scene had actually been there! Screw you Moffat :'(
I can think of a couple of reasons:
The first is that the episode already had an ending--Amy's afterword in the book.
Wikipedia says it was due to actor availability problems
@@TheSkully343 Solidus-Skully I believe the Moffat Era dealt with those issues even more than the Davies era. I found that a lot of what I remember from the RTD's era focuses on the Doctor's problems and how they affect him, whereas most of what I remember from Moffat's run focuses on how the Doctor impacts other people. though, both runs focus on both thos aspects, I believe that Moffat does more with the affects on other characters than Davies does. That being said, i have definitely re-watched more Moffat run stuff than RTD run.
I'm Crying, Your Crying, we are all Crying! Such amazing story writing, if the story doesn't touch your emotions it isn't real. 😢
this should have been filmed... They got rory to read the letter aloud, but they couldnt get the actors to do this little minisode :( imagine if this happened right at the end of the episode. it would have been so terrible sad
The greatest crime is the fact that the Timeless Child exists, but not this scene
Why the HELL wasn't this shot?! Oh wow...god my heart is breaking, and I'm on the verge of tears...I just can't even...
I think one of the actors was unavailable or somthing
it's not to late to shot it now
I can imagine Brians face omggg the feeels
Because Moffat doesn't give a shit about Rory, he just loved Amy. When they both jumped off of the building, the Doctor never called Rory's name, only Amy's. Did the Doctor even care about Rory?
It wasn't filmed because Mark Williams (the actor who portrayed Brian) wasn't available.
The new Rory's Story brought me back to here. Time to watch this video again.
Because it wasn't already heartbreaking enough! Agh! D:
Y'know....in some ways, it's better that this WASN'T shot...it allows the fans to put themselves in Brian's place so much easier...and I think it was more effective this way,
Best thing Chibnall's written for the show. Hopefully he can bring back some of this greatness with Series 12.
It's raining on my face
Four years later and my heart is still shattered by this. Gorgeous, incredible, breathtaking storytelling.
Somehow never knew about this until today, and now I'm sobbing
So did Chibnall just go insane between this and his run or something?
HOW did I miss this ? I'm a huge fan and in all these years, I never heard of that conclusion !
I’m here after 7 years and I’m still crying😭 Anthony gets river as a sister and the doctor as a brother-in-law
A great scene from our new head writer/executive producer!
Mad the way chibnall but can write something this incredible but can't write a competent episode of doctor who as a show runner
Seriously. Like why can't everything turn out this good? Then he becomes showrunner and the thing turns to shit.
Yep I’ve pretty much hated most of the new episodes...I tried so hard to like the 13th Doctor and meh 😒 it’s never gonna happen now
I never never knew this existed I finally got some closure 🥺
This so should have been filmed. And it goes so well with the recently filmed 'Rory's Story'.
if they put this in i would have cries thrice in 10 minutes. (Farwell. amelia's letter and this)
Thank you so much, Chris. This is absolutely lovely. Doctor Who is the best family show ever. 💝
I am crying and i usually never cry from films.
After the angels take manhattan i kept wondering 'what about bryan'? I guess i have the answer now :(
Why i just found this... I am crying.. I was so into Doctor Who 5-7 seasons. And really in that 3 ppl. After that I never watched Doctor Who... my childhood memories with Doctor Who. Especially Doctor & Amy & Rory
Why wasn't this in The Angels Take Manhattan?!
WHY?!!!?
Oh god the feels why do they hurt so much?
@@almostfm: The reason was apparently that the actor who plays Brian wasn't available.
@@almostfm
This has nothing to do with The Angels Take Manhattan. TATM was written by Moffat, while this was written by Chibnall
@@archiereilly419 Except that this was essentially written as a postscript to TATM to explain to Brian that, while he never saw them again, that they had lived a good life together.
If it wasn't written for that purpose, then what episode would it have gone with?
How in THE HELL was this written by Chris Chibnall
Finally! Someone's asking the right questions!
I like to think she did though, somehow and got on well with her little brother.
Makes me cry every time.... I think it is one of the most beautiful scenes and that the story board scene gives that closure to the Amy/Rory arc and for Brian coz I don't think the Doctor in his own grief would have thought of going back and telling him
And thats our new showrunner, Ladies and Gentleman. If he keeps up this quality in his actual showwriting, I see golden days at the horizon.
Now Chris Chibnall is going to take over on series 11 :-)
can't wait
The 13th Doctor meets Anthony :D
+FesterGaming no if he wrote for 12 a lot, he would mess him up
not really. Chris recently wrote a grumpy character (or atleast you could call him grumpy) with Broad church so he is able to do it.
Yeah. The Power of Three is one of my favorite episodes
It's would be awesome if Peter Capaldi, right before his regeneration scene, saved the ponds somehow. Maybe he could sent them a letter to go back to a different location I.E England where he could pick them up and return them, That would be awesome and I hope Chris does small things like that just to fill gaps
I watched The Angels take Manhatten the day it aired in 2012 and 9 years later I've only just discovered this short. It always angered me that Brian Williams was never mentioned again. Why wasnt this filmed it would have been the best part of the episode.
Jesus christ its been 11 years and it still brings you to tears 😢

Sameeee I miss how the show made me feel .. Now it’s not the same.
So goddamned heartbreaking.

Is this... was this... something written by Chibnall that was actually amazing!? Brought a tear to my eye. Makes me wonder what happened to him because he has actually had some decent episodes, some that I really liked actually. Good for individual episodes bad for canon and overarching plotlines.
It's basically just the scene from blink played differently, these also aren't his characters and he doesn't have full creative control. Nothing changed, he just lost his safety net.
@@diccchocolate416 he is the show runner…
He may not have absolute control but he certainly has more power now than he did when he wrote this. Giving him the reigns of the show was a massive mistake. End of.
@@mRudie1318 No, he wasn't showrunner when this was written.
@@diccchocolate416 you used the wrong tense in your answer then. You said “he doesn’t have control” not “didn’t” so I assumed you were excusing his poor handling of the show since taking control.
He can do some solid emotional writing work, and has done so in stuff like Broadchurch. But his sci-fi writing is lacking at best.
Wow so Chris Chibnall can write characters after all
Watch Broadchurch
I only just found out this existed, but this definitely felt like closure to a story that needed it.
