- My hometown Kiev!!
The other side of Kiev..This is how 75% of the population in Kiev live like.
In this district, which is shown in the video, live more than 1.000.000 people!
However this is not a good example of poverty in Ukraine! Other cities like Charkiv and especially villages in Ukraine suffer big poverty and hard life circumstances while Kiev is the best place to live in the whole country! Check out my other video about "Extreme Poverty" in Ukraine!
In these houseprojects live only middle class people!
This is pure HipHop. Know that U guys are welcome here. Love from the Belgium Hip Hop community. Stay strong. 1
As an Englishman in Kiev I was initially shocked by the appearance of the soviet blocks but I never felt in danger. The people although not immediately friendly will not cause any trouble. There are many districts in UK and US with much higher crime and murder rates.
UK no us absolutely

Ukrainian people who live in these apartments are not so poor, they are NOT poverty. In 2013 the price of 1-room apartments costs about 40,000 US dollars, 2-rooms apartment is about 60,000 US dollars. It is NOT cheap, it is the chapest price, many apartments cost more. Owners, probably, are very lucky to have these apartments, because in Kiev, Ukraine, during the period 1991-2013 only few families were able to get free apartments from the government. All others must buy it now. In 2013 many of these buildings in Troeschina and other surrounding districts of Kyiv are packed with many-many cars in a backyards of these buildings. Some people do not buy apartments, they just came to Kiev from other cities, and they rent their flats, but they have or buy cars. Cars parking place is just a place around these buildings. Funny, or not funny, but OWNERS of apartments MUST BE VERY HAPPY. They have their own apartments. Young Ukrainians who is 17-20 years old must work 30 years to earn for their own apartment? Who knows? May be they will be lucky! :)
That's a good point, but you exagerrate a little! Now in 2016 (end of year) the price for 2-rooms apartment (about 60 sq.meters whole) is about 45-50,000 USDollars. It is still a good price. Smallest 1-room-apartment will cost less, but not too drastically, at least 30-35,000 usd. Are you in Ukraine now or not?
Glory Ukraine from Sweden
If you live in Ukraine - you likely do not have a car. So every morning you have to get to your work on public transport.
But public transport worse that in Ukraine I cant imagine. It is rotten old buses where most of people stand, it is giant traffic jams.
To reach center of Kiev from Troeshina you have to stand 1:20 in rotten bus and in subway train. And at evening 1:20.
And tomorrow will be the same horror, and whole your life.
You will get to the work already tired of public transport
In Brazil too.

Hi, the song is called "Баста - Урбан"
In English: "Basta - Urban", the artist is called "Basta"))
This video was shot through a dirty car window. This district in the summer despite the gray color of the buildings is filled with green trees everywhere. It has playgrounds and wide sidewalks. You could go for a walk in this district and walk for hours on tree-lined streets, without ever crossing a road due to underground crossings, and you will be safe. People who live in these apartments are middle class, because in Europe most people live in apartment buildings. That's why unlike Detroit or Bronx, while you are on your one hour walk in Kiev, you will never run into a crazy person talking to himself, or someone sleeping in a box. People who live in this district still get decent free healthcare, or very affordable paid one. Maybe not all of them have cars, because of excellent public transport, the cheapest in Europe, but they have friends, social life, most of them are thin and well dressed, have at least a Bachelor's degree, they read books, eat good food and are happy, even though a lot of them don't suspect how good their lives are (hence this video made by someone who obviously have never lived in an American ghetto.)
+Inara590 Lol, the sad thing is that you do see people talking to themselves, if not more...have you seen the current situation or are you still looking at the bright side. Troeschina was said to be one of the worst areas by google as the google street view drivers said they didnt feel comfortable here as they didnt in areas of detroit, los angeles and some areas in london. You can't say the cheapest area with the 500,000 population is good, if you want to brag about good areas maybe mention obolonska naberezhna or something. Please.
Troeschina is not ghetto. I like it. I get an apartment there every time I go cause it's cheaper, less traffic and peaceful.
I agree with Maholen123, I'm also a Czech and I live in comparable suburb as is in the video. And I live in Prague, the "pearl of Europe". Maybe some of the buildings are better maintained in here, because of more money. But it's the same type of house and most of them are in the same shape. These buildings must have been build EVERYWHERE, Eastern block or West, because people needs to live somewhere fast and cheap.
Beautiful Kiev Nice song thanks
Damn in Albania we still have these eastern buildings :/ Poverty is not that much anymore thank God but we still have shitty communist buildings

Interesting watch!
Don't forget people in the western part of Ukraine are the poorest of the country. People often think that the western part of Ukraine is richer because it lays closer to Europe. This is not true (!). The eastern part has much more money because of good relationsto the rich russians and the huge amount of industry.
Ukrainians are such a nice and civilised people. Every city has poor parts. Don’t worry.
If you want to see poverty go to East St.Louis or Chicago or L.A. or to and Indian reservation in the west...we have in the USA 48 million people in food stamps...So yo can find poverty any place you go..Have you seen photos of Haiti...Kiev is like paradise compare with many other places that I have seen in the world and yes I have been in Kiev!!!
Ukraine is a big country so there are many different looking places. Lviv is one of the nicest city's in Europe for example.
I went to Ukraine 4 years ago and it looked okay to me. I would love to return! I do miss that place and the food..
You can go today!

thank you for the video, some countries have stopped building these giant apartment buildings because its not a good way for people to live

If you’ve got money in the USA it’s okay, if you don’t you’re rather stuck… Extortionate third level fees (poverty trap), privatised health care, racial problems/segregation…I don’t know why anyone from the Ukraine would chose to live there over the EU?
I think that Ukrainian can do better by staying there. Your Country is getting poorer and it needs you. I don't really understand how they live in poor conditions. Although, Ukraine is a beautiful and rich country. Also, I believe that being poor in Ukraine is better than in USA because most of the people in this countrie live on big debts.
I really feel sorry for you Ukrainian people, especially for the innocent girls who end up in the sex industry. You, Ukrainian, deserve better...
50,000 People used to live here. Now it's a ghost town. JK!!! Great Vid!
Is this song on Apple Music or something
I've been to Kiev and I speak fairly decent Russian. I loved it there and I was actually impressed by it. I also lived in St. Petersburg in a large soviet complex like the ones shown in this video. There is no denying that the United States is a richer country, but I wouldn't expect your problems to go away there - but who knows, maybe someday you will come here and you will be extremely happy)))
Respect from Poland
as a citizen of the united states, I would like to see our government become actively involved with Ukrainian people. support your commerce with trade, have American companies develop jobs in Ukraine. instead we trade with the Chinese and all they are interested in is sending us toys that are tainted with lead paint and stealing our ideas.
hi , iam algerian and i like ukraine so much and i hope that one day all of its population get a better life
Hey, I am making a documentary about Ukraine and I love your footage! I was wondering if I could maybe use some of it for a price. Not all of it of course, maybe 20 seconds at max? Pls LMK as soon as you can

Of course you can't compare this to a slum, because this district in the video is one of the best and cleanest High-rise areas in the Ukraine. If you visit a village or a small town here, you will see that circumstances are not better than in the slums of brazil. Many people in the villages don't have access to clean water and corruption, poverty and crime is normal in everyday life.
If you compare today to the 90s, that are two different worlds...got much better!!
i just wanted to clarify that no one in poland lives like in 1950 no matter which town he lives in or what job he has.
i dont understand but i love it
I visited Kyiv last year and on my last day I wandered through this neighbourhood. Strange, old soviet blocks, delapitated, garbage everywhere. But people had smartphones and and dressed somewhat decently wearing brands that are common in western countries. It was like they wanted to move forward and join us in the present, but their surroundings and environment were holding them back.
Ukraine is doing well but it’s going to take some doing to get rid of this massive old concrete jungle
Unfortunately Every city in Ukraine has these apartment blocks scattered everywhere around the country it’s gonna take some time considering Ukraine doesn’t have strong enough purchasing power to renovate or demolished any faster :(
Yeah true Kyiv is an Amazing city it has such a relaxed and happy atmosphere compared to where I live, Washington DC. I love Kyiv and Ukraine, they're really trying to better themselves. Shame they're under attack. I've been to Kyiv and small town where my family lives 7 times, 7 months total. Really miss it rn.
I don't know...these areas don't look nearly as bad as the things I've seen in the southeast part of DC. I'm guessing most of Ukraine's poverty lies in villages? I've seen pictures of Ukrainian village and its like a throwback to 1885 or something.
I♥️ Kiev getto's urkraine
The name of the song is "Баста Под Куполом" / "Basta Pod Kupolom".

Hi, this district is called "Troeshina" ("Троещина"). It is located on the left side of kiev. If you take the metro (subway) from kreshchatyk to Chernihivska and than take the 28 Marshrutka (which is located directly by the station) you will get there in less than 1hour! =)
I really recommend you to visit this district, it will be a very good experience for you, so you see how typical ukrainians live! :)

I agree! Yes! there is others out there who are able to appreciate and understand that these are NOT slums! Sure there are some structures needing attion, and some are in real need of renovation to make them habitable again. But many of these are very nice looking. The purpose --original design intent of the "stacked high rise" is to get inhabitents off of land surface to free up city land surface for PARKS! and OPEN GREEN SPACE!! And you see that here. I wish I could come to Kiev! Im from USA!
Can someone please translate this in english? I listen to this song since the beggining and I know I feel it down deep, yet I need to know what it says. Please someone.

this is russian rap, not ukrainian
Hi, Kevin! You can google Alyona Alyona - she is Ukrainian rap-musician and it a cool way to learn our language ;)
everything that count is state of mind! we need to spread all over the planet and start living in nature...
Kiev is a great city! Every city has poor areas. Everywhere there is poor and upscale places. But overall Kiev is great place to live.
In Egypt we have almost the same thing and style! You have endless district who look like this, all looks the same and all is concrete, no trees and no shops, only boring and depressing towers.
My grandmother is crying form the heavens. Слава Україні!
If you compare Kiev to the rest of Ukraine, than you can say that the city is beautiful! Look at Kharkiv, a city with a population of 1,5million people in the east of Ukraine and trust me, most parts of the city looks like a shithole. So these High-rise areas in Kiev aren't as bad as most of the other parts of Ukraine, but I don't say that this district in Kiev is a beautiful one...Of course it's not!;)
But there are much more worse places in Ukraine!
Is ukraine still like this video ?
ofc, you think it will be better ? only worse.
Its even worse
no, thats ghetto in Kiev. This part was built by soviet union and... yep all what soviet union built looks like this
yes, still like this video. even worse last 3 month.
