      My own friend was angry I was competing against her for a scholarship pageant. She made it crystal clear to the pageant officials that I wasn't a good candidate and sabotaged me. I said wow we've been friends for what 18 years? I guess you really weren't my friend all along? When she placed and I didn't I still smiled for her.

    I get it 😩 I didn’t think this was harsh at all. It’s actually refreshing to hear some of these things. I didn’t really know that judges paid attention to social media presence, but I guess it’s for the same reason employers check social media. Being a titleholder is a job and you are representing a brand, it makes sense! Also, I didn’t know teeth made such a big impact. So informative, thanks Dani 💗

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  5 років тому +2

      You're very welcome. Yes, social media is huge. It's not uncommon for directors to give judges contestant interview sheets and encourage them to search for a contestant on social media. I've done this and prepared specific questions based off of a contestants social media posts.

    Spot on, particularly about getting in shape! People are so hesitant to address this out of fear of being accused of body shaming, but the reality is, you have to be healthy and physically fit not only to survive the physical rigors of the pageant, but to actually LOOK the perfect package!

    You are so smart. My father who judged MAO and MUSA for 54 years, is still angry that you were not Miss USA. He knows his stuff. He was on the panel that selected Sylvia Hitchcock Miss Alabama USA 1967. When he got home that night, I overheard him tell my mother, "we just crowned Miss Universe." The rest is history.

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  5 років тому +2

      Actually we had a really great class. The staff kept saying how surprised they were by us because we were really supportive of one another. The girls who had previously been to Miss America noted that it was sooo different at Miss USA in the best way. I guess their America experience was different, they said the girls weren't as nice because everyone wanted to win. Our class has been great at keeping in touch and loving on each other. I think that's why so many of us still hang out and travel to see one another.

    I love your insight I would pay to see the behind the scenes interviews at USA but especially Universe where there seems to be something always going on when the cameras aren't on. The first person that came to mind was Miss Venezuela 2016 not qualifying at Miss Universe 2016 in the Philippines. I wish MUO and Fox would broadcast more of the preliminary events and the day of the pageant more like they used to back in the day. I also think at Miss USA should bring back crowning runners up to go to Miss World like in other countries do but they have their own franchise. They don't televise the other pageants like Miss World America or Miss Earth USA I think Americans would watch these pageants if they were televised in primetime.

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  5 років тому +2

      Thank you! Miss World and Earth could use some strong contenders and I think crowning runners up at Miss USA is a great idea. Other countries do that and have had great success at other larger international pageants because of the amount of prep that goes into getting a contestant ready for Miss USA.

    Hey Dani! #1 fan here! I was wondering as a fellow but beginning pageant coach, could you do a video or two about how to be the best coach possible, things you’ve found to be super effective, and maybe the boundary for coaches to be truthful while still being helpful? I’ve helped 3 girls win titles already but I feel like learning from you would be awesome! Thanks!

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  5 років тому +1

      Jacob Moon Congratulations on your success. That’s a tough question and topic because some coaches specialize in different areas. But personally I’ve found that it’s best to adjust coaching to the client. Not everything works with every girl. You have to identify her weak areas and understand how she processes criticism. It’s also essential to understand what each system is looking for in a titleholder. You can’t take the same approach to every girl.

    I have natual jet black hair, and since I'm neutral brown, there is no other colour I can dye my hair that is beautiful enough except Gray and special colours that are not fit for pageant. Brown looks to close to my skin, blond make me look crazy and ombre make me look empty. Jet black looks unnatural if the person was a brunnet or a blonde ( mostly blondes ).

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  4 роки тому +1

      I had that issue, and there's not way around it other than to save up for some coaching. Outside help can make a huge difference. It might take longer to achieve a title, but it will be a big help. If someone can gather funds to compete in a pageant, they can also get funds for necessary coaching to succeed in that pageant.

    • @lifespanwellnessbeauty-60i64
      @lifespanwellnessbeauty-60i64 15 днів тому

      Go to your dentist and get a referral to an orthodontist. That kind of problem is easy to correct with invisalign braces. You need to get it corrected as Dani advises. Do you have dental insurance? If you do, it may pay for orthodontia, especially if you teeth are misaligned and cause eating problems. But check into your family's dental insurance plan. If you don't have insurance, find out how much the braces cost and save your own money and pay for them yourself. Whatever you're doing for money like baby sitting can be used to do this. If people give you monetary gifts for your birthday etc, save it and pay for your own braces. Have a fund raiser, be creative. You can have what you want and need if you put your mind to it.😊

    What if you have balayage dyed hair that's grown out? Should the blonde be cut off?

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  4 роки тому

      I had balayage at Miss USA. I'd say, if the color of your roots and ends greatly contrast, then they should be touched up to find that middle ground. But balayage itself is really common for titleholders.

    Hi I have a question, so what if a contestant has straight teeth, but feels awkward smiling with her teeth? Will that take points off if a contestant smiles without teeth?

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  4 роки тому

      That could effect your score. Smiling without teeth could give off the impression that you're nervous or lack confidence. Titleholders need to demonstrate confidence to win.
