Great tips, as always! I’m going to watch the hair curling video next! 😊 Mu first year I made the mistake of wearing red lips, no one said a thing. My second year I wore Mac Whirl and it looked very natural and a judge’s only comment was she hated the lip color 🤷🏼♀️ There is no pleasing everyone but you did a great job suggesting safe options!
haha oh my gosh. I think it's such a weird thing when judges comment something like that because contestants often really read into it. I'll work with girls who get 10 great comments, and the one random one is what they can't forget. That does happen at times, to everyone, so you just gotta brush it off. At one pageant I won, one judge gave a 1 out of 20, for on stage question, and I still won! I was like what???! I get if they didn't like me and gave me a lower score, like a 10/20. But a 1 out of 20?? I couldn't have been that bad? I was everyone else's pick. They also said, I was too old for pageants and should give up because it was pointless to try at my age. That was 3 years before I won Miss Montana USA.
This video is PERFECT timing. I'm doing a local pageant this weekend and I am still trying to figure out my hair and makeup for the interview. THANKS SO MUCH!
i’m so nervous about my first pageant i’ve done in a few to many years!! i’m so scared i just need a confidence boost! any tips are very appreciative!!
That is very helpful. Maybe after that, you should try Lauren Norris videos for pagents as well. She is sweet like Dani and (I think) one her first pagent (if not got 2nd).😁😃
You are always informative. Could you please make a specific video for peope in the US who have no conections to pagents, and dont have a lot of local ones, how to join one online. Such as, spacific websotes you could link, and ones you would recomrnd for newbies?
If im pale do I need a spray tan, (for Miss America circuit) Or am I fine with my natural skin tone. I am not super comfortable with spray tan and like the way I look, but if I need to I need to.
What if you have naturally curly hair? Is it recommended to wear it natural in interview then have it smoothed out (large soft curls/waves) for evening gown?
I love watching Dani Walker, and obviously I do not enter pageants. Dani is so knowledgeable on the subject. She is just so wonderful and friendly and engaging on the screen that I almost wish she did videos about other subjects (not that I have anything against pageant stuff!). It's just that this girl could sell ice to an eskimo!!!! Run for office Dani!!! We need you!!!!
Hey I’m from the uk and I really want to do pageants but I literally dont have nay guidance or friends that do this here so if you could please message back that would be great 💗
Hey Dani! Love your videos! You said in your video that you would link videos on pageant makeup and hairstyles for younger kids. I don’t see the links anywhere but I would love to see them. I actually messaged you on Fb regarding this recently so this is perfect timing!
I don't understand why a afro is considered over the top. That's some of us people natural hair texture. Most of us don't even use extensions to get that natural afro look.
Hi I am competing in my first pageant and I am really nervous. Do you have any tips to help me boost my confidence. Update: i won the pageant. thank you So much!
I am in the 2022 Ms. Colorado Senior America Pageant. The Pageant is just weeks away (Oct. 23, 2021) I am 73 years old. Any special hints for me? Thanks.
At my first interview I didn’t have problems I was aware of at my first ever miss local- i was asked and stumped by “what makes u stand out from other contestants?” And i felt my answer was mediocre (i am considerate of others and a kind person); Dani, Whats best practice for this? I am doing a local again this Saturday evening 😐😁😁😁
So that actually varies person to person, and there are great answers for that. It's something I teach to my personal coaching clients and very soon, I'll re-release my online courses that go in depth on that.
I think 🤔 unlike last yr I rushed thru the evening gown walk to the mic for social impact statement because i last minute borrowed a dress due to shape and was indecisive what dress to wear, which surprised my parents in the audience. i lost the pageant again with no award in hand but I will be strong and maybe attend sweeps 🧹 in April in Anaheim California
Hi Dani! Could I make a request for a video? I feel like there isn't much information on the internet about the Mrs pageant category. Clothing choices, makeup, hair, evening gown styles, interview, ect. I'm sure there are differences in these areas vs Miss, Teen and Preteen categories. For an example, I am a local titleholder for the Mrs. Pennsylvania International Pageant, a tier of Mrs. International, not to be confused with the Miss International Pageant held in the Asian countries. Any tips would be greatly welcomed!!
You can do either. The key with the false lashes is to use them to enhance your eyes but keep them looking natural. They shouldn’t distract from your overall look
Loved it! 💓😄 What about for me? I’m 12 years old- NAM state pre teen division with no makeup- and I’m not sure what to do about my hair. I’ve never done a pageant before and my mom is not a hairstylist but she’s really good at all sorts of braids and curls, straight styles too. It seems like it would be hard to find a pageant hair specialist. Are there any you could recommend? Also, should my mom do it or should we get a lesson or a stylist?
If you click the icon in the upper right corner, you'll see a link to my hair tutorial for younger divisions. These are things mom can help you with :D Or you can always hire someone for hair to help.
I don’t see a lot of people talk about National American Miss parents but do you know anything about them and what kind of make up we should do for that I am in the junior teen category or 13 through 15 but I’m 16 it’s just where your birthday lands pretty much but if you have anything that could help me please let me know.
Hi Melissa, I have hundreds of episodes. Lots of them apply to NAM because I was a former queen for them. You can find those in the pageant prep videos playlist. I would suggest checking out @makeupbymaskara on IG. She does h/m for a ton of NAM queens. You'll see what great makeup/hair looks like for NAM jr. Teen queens.
Gosh I wish I did. A lot of contestants do skype lessons. It's probably the most common. I love Austin Ryde, Mk Artistry, Kara Knudesen, Makeup by Shelia out of Texas, Olivia Rose beauty, team flawless. There's a bunch and many travel. I got a H/M at an expo when I was in Washington, then I had more via skype with other artists.
You wear them on stage but not for interview? I would either wear them for everything, or not at all. Some judges may like them, while others might not, which we can't help but if you show them both options, it'll make them wonder why you chose to wear them for somethings and not others.
Watching this while doing my own hair and makeup for a TV interview 😱🇲🇽👑
I love your videos Dani! Thanks a lot and keep up the good work 👏👏👏👏
Oh these tips could be so helpful for that! Have fun at your interview!

Dani Walker it’s just impossible to be everyone’s cup of tea! That’s crazy, but I’m glad you didn’t listen to those silly comments!
I've done pageants for fun awhile but this video was so useful now that I'm coming back into it!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Dani I love your videos but could you use more examples of darker skin girls? 💗💗
JaiMaria Howard I actually tried but couldn’t find the makeup examples I was looking for 👎🏼
@@DaniWalker Thank you for trying!!
This video is PERFECT timing. I'm doing a local pageant this weekend and I am still trying to figure out my hair and makeup for the interview.

This is giving me so much hope and new knowledge with the journey I am going to take in pageants
Love this 💕
Thank you so much!! I’m going to IJM at the end of the month and I have a makeup artist who does amazing work but may need to die down the look a bit.
Good luck!
Dior has amazing highlighter That isn't to flashy!! It's my fav
Thank you for such an informative video ❤️
You’re very welcome ☺️

Thanks! About what pageant?
I want to see a video for pageant on stage look
You are absolutely amazing and your heart is gold! You have helped me so much thank you for taking your time to make these videos!!♥️

Watching this while working out for my next pageant! Came from the interview tips video!!!
I used to watch pageant youtube videos when I worked out too!! lol

That's tanning 101! You always color match ur tan to ur foundation especially if your typically very fair skinned
Yesss, but it’s so easy to overlook if you’ve never done it.
@@DaniWalker true! I've been tanning for years now my issue is when I don't tan and all my foundations are to dark 😂

Practicing each area of competition so you feel comfortable always helps to boost confidence at a pageant.

Can you show how to do a ponytail with clip in extensions?

Geek With A Blending Brush that’s a great idea.
This was so helpful! For the Miss Earth PR pageant, we can't wear makeup for interview!
Alexandra Robles I’m so glad 😊 that’s probably best since there’s a no makeup interview at earth
For interviews, do you HAVE to do falsies or can you wear your natural lashes with mascara?
You can do either. The key with the false lashes is to use them to enhance your eyes but keep them looking natural. They shouldn’t distract from your overall look
What makeup colors do you recommend for light complexion and that will bring out blue eyes
You don't need anything crazy for pageant makeup. Check out my Pinterest board for inspiration :)

How would you cover hooded eyes for fake eyelashes? I have trouble finding eyelashes that look natural for my eyes.
As a spray tanning business owner, I tell ALL my clients to please not wear their usual foundation with the spray tan! Just for everyday life!
Yesssss great point!
Thank you

Can you wear your hair straight for interview and curled for finals? Or does it look two different between the two?
Hi Dani, I know it is a girly thing, but I watch it anyway so I can see you.
hahah thank you!
Do you know of any hair and makeup artists/People who give lessons for pageant h&m in Oregon?

Thank you 💙🙏🏻
Your foundation looks so light, what brand are you wearing? Very informative video! Love you.
It was the Dior one. It's in a little bottle with a silver cap that screws on. I can't remember which one it is exactly.

Oh wow, thanks!
Is 23 too old to start doing pageants?
I competed at Miss USA when I was 28, you still have time.
