In the classic version of the subdiv juste turn off "optimal display" and you will see the new wireframe generated...

I work on one right now with adaptive subdivision + displace and auto LOD for production ;)

this is great for precision modeling, so when u subdiv a 16 vert circle it still has the same diameter, PERFECT!! !:)
