The reason is that door lock don't use all the pins on the key while the ignition uses all of them. so if he took out the key we would see all the cuts while now we only know the cuts from the tip of the key that the door lock uses. also as demonstrated (in this one and the other videos he's done) the door locks on most cars are a moderate suggestion that you would not like people to enter.

Retired aircraft mechanic here. Commercial aircraft use a lot of a type of fastener called a Hi-Lok. We use a Hi-Lok guage(pictures on the net) to determine the exact length of the pin required for the depth of the hole it's going in. It's basically a graduated, narrow strip of metal with a bulb at the end that hooks on the back side of the hole to give the required length.
Once, when locked out of my 240SX, I used 2 of these, back to back, to become a poor man's version of the LPL, lol. Honestly, when I saw the picture, I initially thought you were using similar, found tools, not a specialty tool.
Anyways, guess I missed my chance to become the Lock Picking AME. 😅

Not with Ford's PATS system. He would need the RFID box to search for his keys and copy the signal. Then use that to creat a false signal to open the door and start the ignition, put it in drive and leave.
With PATS system can't start engine or put it in gear without that RFID key fob chip.

I don't know how the locking mechanism in cars work, but he doesn't use that key hole. Since he has a set of keys that hide in his fob normally people just use the fob. As I said I don't know how car door locks are made, but if it may be that if you were to absolutely destroy the physical lock the electrical would still work.
Although the rule is "don't pick a lock in which you rely" and he does rely on that one. And at the same time I think that's more in a "for fun or education" sense since you are learning a skill and have your own discretion to use it when you lock yourself out of something. But not the case here.

The actual "rule" is not to pick locks that are in use, since it would be even worse to pick locks that someone else uses! The main reason is to clearly distance locksport from any suspicion of illegal activity since although you know that the lock you are picking belongs to you, observers may not. A secondary reason is the possibility of accidentally damaging the lock although that's unlikely if you know what you're doing and the lock doesn't have trap pins or similar.

I watched as they tired a coat hanger then my coworker asked me you still have you lock pick set on you from early. Next thing you know I picked the drivers open as my car was pulled up. It was a Hyundai and took me first time picking a car lock about 2 minutes but the Uber told me he'd give me a free ride anywhere in Memphis since I saved him $150. I was happy help and not a fan of being a passenger personally but that's Memphis. I do industrial maintenance and a employee quick taking the interlock key out of a control room bypassing safety when they walked off the job. I picked it back to the correct safety spot. They had me drive 3 hours from another site in Arkansas to fit it then treater me like a rock star for 'saving the day' I pick for fun and jokes sometimes. Once moved the 2nd and 3rd draw swapping then on a coworkers toolbox. Moved his draws every few days just messing him before he realized something was fishing and why he could find his tools in the spot he though he had them. We had a great lol out of it. Its not unusual for the alarm to be triggered when the door is opened by the key. Usually it depends on how it was locked in the first place - if it was locked with the fob, unlocking it with a key will trigger the alarm.

@@pootispiker2866 Yes, i've seen this when using the mechanical backup key.. with those decoding tools you can pick the lock but not open the door, go and cut a key blade and then open the door / turn the ignition on to stop the alarm, the lack of transponder chip will usually stop the car from starting but many will not sound the alarm...

The car my parents had on the isle of wight only armed the alarm if it was locked with the remote (which was a single button on the key)
and one quick way of testing if the alarm was armed or not was to open the door at the rear of the vehicle, which with that vehicle you needed the key to open (i have no idea what it is called outside of where i live, so ive attempted to describe it instead)
My parents did make the mistake of opening that door while the car was locked at least once

@@n2n8sda My Escape (and LPL's Explorer ST) doesn't have a physical key for the ignition, so if you enter the vehicle without the fob, the alarm will go off. Your backup as an owner, in this case, is to use the My Pass app to turn off the alarm.
I don't really see how this event would come to pass though, since you can use the app to unlock your doors, so...

FYI the alarms for many cars are only triggered if you press the lock button twice. Sometimes it will honk the second time you click it. Clicking it once will lock the car but not 'arm' the alarm.
