Thank you sir! Excellent video. I repaired my Cadilac in less than an hour. Thank you for taking the time to make this excellent video. You gave me the great, inexpensive and reliable repair. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video! Instead of damaging the threads to "lock" the nut in, maybe just throw a second nut on there. Double nut locks have never failed me!
Thanks for posting. I had a feeling that there were going to be a bunch of comments about other ways to fix this problem. There are a lot of different options available. Thank You for showing us this one. I don't know if I could have that thing hanging down if it was visible from outside the vehicle, but if its hidden from view, this is a good quick fix. Thanks again!
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes there are multiple ways of fixing things for sure and it’s always good to get several different ideas to see which will work best for your situation and needs.
its called a carriage bolt, they come in many sizes. Get one as close to the hole size as possible. Also you can use just a regular bolt if you wanted to. Hope this helps thanks for the question.
Thanks. Yes I’m always amazed as to which a Videos do better than others. Sometimes I post a video and think this should be a good one and I really get double digit views are the times I throw one up in a hurry that I think nobody gives a darn about and I guess thousands of views LOL thanks for taking the time to comment
That muffler hanger already has a rubber insulator between the clamp and the metal bar, so it doesnt need to be attached to the old big rubber isolator. The metal bar is built as it is to be able to be bolted onto the frame, or onto the car rod hanger. BTW if the muffler moves too much with road bumps and vibrations because of the two rubber isolators it will make the flex pipe fail earlier than its normal life (if the vehicle has one) or the other connections, specially if one travels a lot of roads in bad condition.
The vehicle has no flex pipe and fortunately I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever the rubber mounts are fairly solid and not too sloppy so it did not move around a heckuva lot. But you are correct I did not need to hook it back to that mount but I decided to anyway. Thanks for taking the Time to comment.
If I understand you correctly then you may have to have somebody weld on a new bracket on the body of the car if that’s not what you mean then I would buy a whole new hanger system. I hope this helps thank you for taking the time to ask the question.
I dont think i have had an issue with breaking at the bend, but im sure it would be a little weaker there to some extent. And your right , not a lot of options.
the new hanger has rubber on it so you can just bolt directly to metal on you car if you need to. in my case I was able to use the old spot to bolt to and utilize the rubber as well. I put a link to the hanger in the description but just make sure its the size you need.
The rubber "hangers" are sold at your local autoparts store. Advance Auto has at least three variations. They are not expensive (less than $10). They sell the hanger "Shane" used also.
Yes, that would help but it also dries out the rubber. I suppose for the few time this has to be done it would not matter but your right it would defiantly go a lot easier. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@CanadienNortherner That is the "perfect" way to do it. But how may of the searchers for a DIY process have welding machines? Few. The ones that do, have already fixed their break.
Well it really depends on what you were looking to get out of the vehicle in the future, in this case it was old and my own so it was not worth putting lots of money in. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Why not just attatch it to the METAL hanger coming off the actual car just above the rubber bushing? What will happen is the rubber bushing will perish snap and then your be back to square one lol
If you do that it will fail much sooner because you need some flexibility from the vibration of the engine and the muffler system. If you don’t have some flexibility in the system the metal wall crack and break. Thank you for taking the time to comment and ask the question.
Should of just took the rubber off completely then slide your metal bracket through the top hanger and then put your rubber back on. That just looks messy
You would’ve been better off using a wire clothes hanger and achieved much better results (cosmetically as well) then what you have shown us here. Not a fan of this “fix” at all. Looks horrible and I’m sure it won’t last very long before you’re making another “repair” to your work. Just go down to the parts store and purchase the proper hanger. I just picked up 2 brand new hangers at the part store and it was LESS then $11.00 USD out the door.

Thank you! I have a similar hanger to use. "Christmas is coming." Loved that random comment. Lol! Appreciate your video!

what is the bolt you used to secure the new hanger once you got the old rusted one out? about to do this for myself

lmfao
That bend is going to straighten out from all the force and your exhaust will be hanging lower.
Have not had any issues with it at all thanks for commenting
nothign fancy or pretty but seems like itd do the trick..that clamp is 20 dollars now on amazon..

What if the hanger got seperated from the body of a car instead of the exhaust?

i have a motorhome in my exhaust pipe on the end is hanging on the ground literally it's dragging
Yikes

Or instead of damaging the bolt so you cant get it off use lock tight 🤷♂️
I could do that but by the time it needs to come off it will most likely be rusty and ill just use a sawsall to cut it.
Using heat can make Loctite melt and soften.. so not a good idea as it can still come off...you can use a self locking nut instead
Does the bend in the hanger create a weak point? I've had these types of hangers break a lot but there aren't many other options sometimes.
I dont think i have had an issue with breaking at the bend, but im sure it would be a little weaker there to some extent. And your right , not a lot of options.
You should’ve removed the rubber part entirely and just attach the metal to metal
No, then you would get an awful lot of rattle noise. It could be done that way, but I wouldn’t do it.
Thanks :)

what to do if the rubber is corroded and is not re-usable??? thanks

My muffler fell of when they rear ended me
Wow , well have a fire extinguisher near by. But I would not recommend welding near a leaking gas tank.
bro, use liquid such as WD40 to help remove and install those rubber hangers

@@shanesmaineshop In that case, use spray silicone.

Yeah, like that's gonna hold long.
