The Essential Guide To Maintaining Your Fitness During The Menopause
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 тра 2024
- As we age, men and women go through different phases which affect us and our training. Today we're talking about menopause, what it is exactly, how it affects our bodies, and how we can use sports and exercise to combat the effects. We also talk to two-time Olympian, Michelle Dillon, who explains her experience with menopause and how she has adapted her training to suit the change and Dr Bella Smith who explains the biology behind how and why the body changes 🥀

Of course
Yes! 👍
Definitely yes!! 👍
Yes please. This is an incredibly important topic!
Thank you, we need to shout the risk of Osteoporosis from every roof, please more of this
More please ❤ I was 57 last week so I’m interested in continuing to train sustainably rather than going faster and farther
I wonder if everyone would be interested in reading Dr. Stacy Sims book, *Next Level*. She started with *Roar* and had one chapter on women and menopause. Then, she and her co-author took on menopause in *Next Level* and how to continue through this time frame to keep training. It's been a life saver!
thank you for this. I had a horrible menopause, hardly knew who this person (me) was. HRT helped enormously. every woman is different so never judge another woman's choices. I have slowed down so much as a triathlete post menopause and now aim to "complete" not "compete." I remind myself how privileged I am to do this sport, even though I am slow, my mum died of cancer at 57 and I am still "having a go" at 62. also thinking of woman in Ukraine who are not able to take part in triathlon and women in Afghanistan who can barely leave the house. we are all so lucky. Today's Olympic distance was sooooooo tough compared with the same distance at 50. Just getting out there is good enough and resting more and not comparing today's results with those of a decade ago. we are all GOOD enough. thanks GTN, Stella
Thank you so much for sharing this! It's inspiring to hear about your motivation 😊 Is there anything you'd like to see us cover in a future video?
@@gtn yes more videos on why we need to rest more as post menopausal women, any tips on how we stay motivated as we get slower, easy at home strength to manage niggles, much of this is covered in your wonderful videos but another older women specific video would be great with maybe some more older athletes sharing their stories, just hearing from an ex champion that its OK to take a rest and have an easy session, some how gives us "permission" to do so. The big takeaway, I feel is, the never comparing yourself to others, thats OK for the Pros and the athletes at the start of their journey, but not us on the downward curve. also maybe a video on kindness, stop before you mow through the older age group in the water, showing courtesy on those sharp corners in the run. I think British culture is better at manners! I know both, as a British migrant to Australia. thanks a million GTN.
Nice to see this “out there”. I’ve been post-menopausal for about 4 years. This stuff is no joke. I cannot keep muscle on me and the sleep interruptions are like having a newborn.
I'm 2 years post, and having the same issues.
Great video GTN!👍 I've been told to 'just get on with it' but found in the end HRT plus running, swimming and a tiny bit of cycling helps. Also now started incorporating weight training and yoga. The amount of friends my age that don't exercise is staggering. It's difficult when it takes a toll on your mental health but it is definitely do-able. Even a brisk walk will help 😊 (and watching GTN of course 😆)
Glad to hear you like the video! We really feel this a topic that should be talked about. Great to hear about how your incorporating exercise into your lifestyle! 🙌
Thankyou, more exercise guidance during perimenopause pls
Agree with this.
We will pass this onto Heather 😊
I got into fitness to fight depression. Now, I'm into triathlon to keep my body healthy as I age. Loved this video; the content was extremely valuable. More topics like this, please. 👍
We're so glad to hear you found this content useful! We will pass this onto our presenters 😊

I'm post menopause, I don't have mood swings but weight gain is just so hard to get rid of 😢😢😢
Thanks for talking and raise awareness about menopause. For me personally menopause was/is a struggle but got a whole lot better after hormonal therapy. I startet training more often the last couple of months after going through a hysterectomy. I consider to do my first triathlon in june at the age of 51. I really enjoy following the GTN channel - keep it up :)
Glad to hear you enjoy our videos! Is there any other topics you'd like to see us cover in a future video? 🤔
@@gtn Personally I would like to see videos that I as a woman can relate more to. Like agewise. For eksempel would I like to know more about what is achievable as a new beginner to triathlon when over 50. And I really enjoy watching the videos about "project kona 2023" and "zero to hero". It would be nice to have a women version of it. 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing this info!

Great work 👍
Thanks for this interesting video! I would be happy to watch more on this topic!
Awesome job GTN! Way to get some insight on a subject that many struggle with! Most menopause videos focus on many recreational exercisers, not “athletes” that still want to compete…. Good for You!!
Great information
Lovely video!
Great massage
Thank you GTN and especially Heather, for bringing this subject, which has always been sort of a taboo. Women triathletes are no ghosts after reaching that stage, and we want to perform, why shouldn't we keep our ambitions and goals? Information is key and to me personally HRT has kept me going, reborn after starting with it!
Really great to hear that you liked the video. Is there anything you'd like us to cover next? 🤔
I watched this video all the way through even though it doesn’t apply to me. Great video! Perhaps a video pertaining to the effects of aging on men’s triathlon performance.
Nicely explained
Its amazing work ❤😊
Thank you for discussing this! I'm still some years away from this but it worries me.
Great work.carry on.
Amazing tips
Great work wonderful
Thank u GTN 💓
Thank you SO much for addressing the athletic needs of sometimes forgotten demographic ❤
So informative ❤❤❤
So happy you’ve finally addressed this. I’m a post menopausal 48 year old and have always done a ton of sport but I’m seen as very unusual in my peer group. HRT has been a saviour for me but exercise is my non negotiable. The change is huge and so profound physically and mentally
Thanks for talking about menopause

Good to hear! We will pass this onto our presenters! 🙌
Thanks Heather (and Manon for the recent GCN video), great to get information like this. Menopause feels like such an ignored topic, & you're just supposed to carry on as usual. At least with UA-cam I can find more info than my mum's generation!
Glad to hear you found this video useful! We strive to make inclusive content for everyone. Is there anything else you'd like to see us cover in the future? 🤔
