- Not all fishing boots are created equal. We are doing underwater tests on two affordable pairs of fishing shoes. We are looking for ONE BOOT TO RULE THEM ALL! This pair of boots should work well in any fishing environment. I do many kinds of fishing. I want a SINGLE pair of fishing shoes that I can wear for beach fishing, river fishing, jetty fishing, pier fishing and boat fishing.
DISCLAIMER: I NOT SPONSORED BY EITHER COMPANY. I had trouble finding a pair of boots this season, I made this video to help anyone who is struggling to make the decision.

I had a nasty slip and fall 2 months ago and still recovering from it.
This video has helped as I have been struggling to find a good boot.
Thanks.
just ordered myself a pair of soft sciences. Finally a good review on the shoe!!
@@Shawn-ts4jw Yeah looks like soft science closed, they did not last at all in salt water. lasted one season and threw them out. The boots were super light and soft though
surprising enough, high top converse have been one of my best wading shoes because of the canvas and drain holes, i just put a decent insert in for arch support, the soft science seems like a bridge between and am very interested!
I have been using the same science boot for a couple weeks wading the Indian river here in Florida I have hip waiters with neoprene socks my feet are dry and very little sand gets in , the lace ups are better than their other models when you get stuck they stay on, great review.
Xtra tuff 6 inch deck boots are my favorite light weight and waterproof slip resistant
Nice review!
The best wading shoes I had for wading oyster flats around Jacksonville were heavily lugged French foreign legion desert boots. I wore them out to the point I used denim iron ons as the canvas tops deteriorated. It's the sharp oyster shells, rocks and broken glass I need protection from, not as worried about slick rocks at the beach like in mountain streams. Oh yeah, socks kept the sand from rubbing my feet raw.
Have you found any other shoes to compare? I'm fishing oyster flats and on rocks with barnacles in Tampa Bay.
I have been looking for the perfect pair of river shoes for 10 years. Mostly for canoe trips where small rocks get stuck in my Keens and are quite painful. I appreciate the video but I’m still looking. Good review on your part.
Great video I've been considering a pair of shoes specifically designed for fishing. At the moment I just have a pair of runners and a pair of hiking boots and neither are perfect when I go kayaking and have to get in/out with the soft sand/mud ha!
That’s EXACTLY MY PROBLEM! Haha 😂
Thank you for answering my question
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the vid ✌🏼
Aren't wading shoes supposed to be worn over waders?
Yes, however, in the summer wet wading is preferred over wearing waders that can be hot and sometimes non-breathable.
@@HoraceHess true and they are also designed to go with wading socks in any case. The only way to get stuff out of the boots and feet.
Ever think about coming down to Southern California? Love to see you fish the local spots in San Diego!
Yes! We are planning a trip for next year! When would be a good time to come??
Nice review👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks for watching callan, I hope this helps!
You should wait for a few days to tell us which one is more stinky . Thanks for the beautiful video like always ❤️👍🏻
I suggest Newport H2 by Keen. Confortable to wear all day in and out of the water, protective toe cap, great traction, durable and relatively light weight. I guess they are considered sandals but I wear them anytime I go fishing.
That sounds great! Thanks for the suggestion. I would be interested in something like sandals as long as they protect my feet!
Hey, you may want to consider acquiring a pair of wading socks to wear with your wading boots. The neoprene socks prevent the sand from getting in your shoes.
When i heard "flats", i instantly thought the shoes were mainly made to wade the flats like down in Florida, maybe, maybe not. I would probably check the manufacturers reccomendations also. As always great vid bro, thanks for sharing the test.
Do you recomend the soft science for fishing on shore rocks?? Are the shoes good non slip ?? Where can i buy them on line ??
Nice review. I have a pair of NRS wet boots that are similar to the Shimano boots. Water stays inside of them. I just got a pair of Huk Attack shoes. I have yet to test them in the water. I'll probably make a video about them to show how they perform.
I’m interested to see the huk booth! I’m all about the drainage 👍🏼👍🏼
Hey big fan of your channel, I'm an Amputee angler in Colorado, like you fishing helped change my lifestyle ways, I'd love to see a video of Colorado fishing, we have some very deep lakes, big big predator fish! Also when are you going to drop a bloopers video?!?
Great video, I enjoy product review videos. I am continuing to pray for you and your family and friends.
Thank you aaron I’m glad you enjoyed the review 👍🏼
@@HeySkipper you are welcome.
Big Skipper calves with the first boots 💪
LOL 😂
Good Product
I thought the shamino shoes was going to take the win lol. Good test!
SoftScience Fin boot is what I wear and they are phenomenal for wade fishing. I think you would like them better than the lace ups.
I’m definitely enjoying the lace ups! I’d be interested in trying the fun boot tho, thanks for the suggestion!
@@HeySkipper Erin needs a pair too so maybe get her in the Fin boot. Us girls need to stick together in this fishing world 😀❣
Two completely different boots for two completely different applications. One is a saltwater flats fishing boot, the other is a freshwater creek fishing boot.
lol with that amount of boots and shoe, you've been 'sole' harvesting XD haha
Which one is better for out in the jetties
I have a pair of Magellan's which are very similar to the Shimano's and are about half the price. The Magellan's have drain holes but still retain some water unless the boot is removed. I am temtped to try the Softscience but I am not sure how well laces will perform in the surf. Thanks for the review
Sounds like the Magellan’s would be a good option! I’d be interested to try those. Thanks for watching and giving your input 👍🏼
Hello I have question with best line for bait casting rod ?
I'm fishing in the Tampa Bay area with oyster bottoms, rocks with barnacles, and jetties. Does anyone have a single-pair recommendation that will take care of all of those climates?
Ever try Huk Attack water shoes? I use mine in the jetty and they are awesome
It wasn't made for fishing but the Altra Timp 4 works great for this
Korkers are the superior choice with the interchangeable soles
I have the Shimano' s, they are great. I'm buying a second pair next month
Best wader boot Simms - Feather light period also about the sand rubbing....Use a pair of wading socks. Also when you wore those kayaking boots.{not wader boots by far!} What was up with the Puma socks?
I like a cheap pair of water proof sneakers and they work grate for everything and when I go to the jettys I attach my spikes to them and there perfect
Sounds like a good option! I personally prefer the drainage but I’m with you on the korkers! Those will go on my boots as well
Try Crocs. Light weight and stiff. Works for me.
softscience was actually formed by the former ceo of crocs! Very similar material in the sole of the boots
Hey Skipper I’m wondering if Soft Science is still in business.
I can’t even find their website and only can locate their shoes in odd sizes from a few sellers.
The shimanos will definitely last a lot longer. I also think you need a wading socks to go with them. But there really isn't a good shoes for sand and jetties and rocks and all that. One has to prioritize between them all and figure which you can live with.
I've tried everything over the years , best saltwater footwear by far if you want a boot that lasts years and years and years is the Simms Vaportreads , those are flat out awesome . Vibram soles . The best lightweight saltwater flats shoe is the new Simms flats sneaker NOT the old model the new model.
The Shimano boot above do not have the ankle support that's so important for all day and all night non stop angling .
I just wear a pair of thicker socks, nothing fancy. The fabric works like a bunch of tiny suction cups, so rocks that felt like pure slime in shoes or barefoot, suddenly feel more like velcro. You have to step down with just your heel onto a 60° sloped surface before you start slipping, and I've caught myself just by flattening my foot on the same rock I was sliding on. It is easy to run around in a river while everyone else steps gingerly and still falls. You need to test different socks for this property -- if you're anything like me you'll be running and jumping around the river like a kid again..
I wet wade in sandy creeks where my sneakers get filled with rocks, sand and pebbles. I literally can wear them only once and have to throw them away. I don't have enough old sneakers to keep this up. Lol! Any ideas?
I use army issue jungle boots for wading. They're cheap, drain well & a great grip on the sole. Really good ankle support too, & the high stitched tongue really helps to prevent the ingress of sand.
Where can I find a pair??
@@HeySkipper heres a link. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xjungle+boots.TRS0&_nkw=jungle+boots&_sacat=0
The Shimano boots were designed for flats fishing. While Soft Science was designed for Stream fishing. This is also why the soft science sticks to the mossy rocks whereas the Shimano boots will slip and slide on the mossy rocks. You will often find stream wading boots with felt on the soles to assist with sticking to the slick rocks of a mountain stream. Again, try using a pair of wading socks with your Soft Science Boots I promise you will thank me. Love your channel. Cheers.
Take a look at the higher end Shimano boots. The soles can be change for different terrain. You might need to look for them on the Japanese site.
Do you have a pair yourself? Which boots would you recommend?
Hello from California!
Hello California!! We want to go fish there soon!
Bro I'm fkn dieing here u got me on the might as well be wearing socks coz i just got those rock hopper style and are basically socks lmao
If you guys come to the Cape September I want to meet up and fish with you guys please. Big fan.
Hey skipper How tall 6" or 8" on the terrafins
You should try Columbia drainmakers there awesome sneakers with grip and make one hell of a water shoe also that drains fast
Ooooooooo I would be interested in trying those out 👀 do you own a pair?
So, I do coastal/habitat restoration work, and in one day spend a ton of time navigating between boats, the shore, and shallow waters all with unique needs and hazards. I cannot express how frustrating it has been to try and find a pair of boots/shoes that can stack up in all the environments. So, I appreciate your presentation as I can see how many shoes you’ve looked at as well.
Thanks for the excellent review! Now I need to find a pair.
Side note: how do you feel about these shoes two years later?
I have some NRS wading/kayak shoes and they're the same as the Shimano. I have all of the same problems. I just stick to regular water shoes now.
Oh really 👀 very interesting. What water shoes do you use now?
@@HeySkipper I use some Zangulin, or however it's spelled, watershoes that I for for a lightning deal on Amazon. They're okay, but let in way too much sand.
Are you still using Soft Science? I also do all kinds of fishing and love jetties and rocks with barnacles. Flats once in a while with a sandy bottom.
Try some Astral Rassler 2.0 or Astral Hiyaks. Been using them for wet wading and they stick to rocks like nothing else.
Nice! I would have loved to know about these before filming this vid 😭 now I gotta commit to the soft science!
Hi bro i want to catch 200 kg fish can u tell me which rod, reel and line i should use pls tell me and can i buy from Amazon pls reply me fast
You should try the Chota Outdoor Gear felt-soled wading shoes. They don't slip on mossy rocks, they drain, are lightweight, and have easy single-hand laces that are super useful when you have occupied hands (laces you need to retie, annoying if you're carrying gear).
Big downside is you must clean them thoroughly between bodies of water or you risk cross-contaminating water with invasive species. I soak mine in baking soda / vinegar before bringing it to a new body of water.
In South Africa, we are wearing short gumboots with diving socks to walk on the wet rocks.
Simms flats boots are the best !!
You should test felt bottom shoes!
Have you compared that with felt soles or something similar like most people use in trout streams?
Careful those are banned in many locations.
I have not but I would be interested in trying something like that! Again, it’s important for me to have a sole that really protects my foot
Felt sole wading boots with metal studs are for rocky rivers. Try korkers.the shoes you tried work good for kayaking.they wouldn't last one day chasing steelhead.
felt sole is banned in maryland unfortunately
I also have the Shimano boots...( pros )
1) really really really comfortable..especially for people with wide feet
2) price
3) easy to put on/ take off
CON
1 Zipper broke after 2 uses, sand gets in between the teeth of the zipper and eventually breaks the tab off while pulling up...make sure the boot is free of sand beforehand
Hope this helps anyone who is considering the Shimano boot👍🏻
WOW I was worried about the zipper for this exact reason! Thanks for the input!
The shammino boot is more like a wet suit boot that u would use with korkers up in mtk
If the soft science would have attached the tongue on the sides they would probably be perfect
Simms Salt water wading sneakers. Maybe an extra 30 to 40 bucks but well worth it. Wear these barefoot though or with water resistant socks.
We use izuo brothers tabis neoprene felt bottom and spikes for rocks n limu
Very interesting. I will definitely be using spikes on these boots in more slippery conditions 👍🏼
@@HeySkipper our conditions on Oahu are nuts salt spray waves blasting at you, Choke limu on the rocks. The spiked tabis save ur ass. They are zipper but if u wax them and melt it on prevents rust and will last longer
im looking to get my 2nd pair but looks like they are unavailable anywhere,,,,,,, has soft science folded and production ceased? for me these waders are the best!
Soft science folded:(
@@HeySkipper appreciate the update ! time to hunt for a matching pair... hope to find somethinf just as good... tks!
How about Simms brand?
I need a review like this for korkers lol
I use spikes outside of these for super slippery rocks. They have some like chains with elastic that you put around the shoe. They work for me like that
My buddy decided he didn't want to spend $150 on wading shoes so he bought a $20 pair of Walmart sneakers. We were on a 5 day-long rafting trip on the Smith River in Montana, and he slipped and busted his knee and has had two surgeries and issues hiking now.
$25,000 later, after insurance, he still kicks (almost) himself to this day for not buying the $150 pair of shoes.
Can you do a MASS squiddy bits giveaway also good vid
Big giveaway coming soon!!!!!
I got mine soft science shoes for $5 at Amazon
Air Force ones for everything
Classic
I like to use either the seasport or Hawaiian anglers reef walkers
Nice suggestion! I’d like to try those reef walkers 🤙🏼
🤙
Love all the editing and the info
For me , my shoes foot padding on the inside will always come apart once they get wet.
Also without drainage , your feet will be all wrinkling and when skin don’t dry , they can be cut easily .
And probably smell , since water don’t drain out
I’m all about the drainage! I’m with you on that! Thanks for watching!
try extratuf boots, they are the bomb
Korkers for the win!
I’m all about korkers over everything
Hey Skipper let’s hit up some jetties! Keepers are being caught in oc
Water slow in slow out. I think you have to have more than one pair for fishing. If your on moss/green slime covered jetties some use spikes, bank fishing /boots/surf and sand bare feet. Winter time we can go on or just ask your girl friend about shoes Thank you
Thank you
Get you a pair of korkers fitted with a set of omnitrax problem solved.
The easiest is just buy a pair of socks and put it around your whatever shoes inside.
Socks on the outside?? V interesting 🤔
@@HeySkipper Yes, it's common to put socks wrapping your shoes to increase friction and grip.
Convers sneakers work good to and the dry fast they do stink bad but other then that k
LOL 😂
Volleys mate
Where dey at
I love my soft science shoes but I only wear them over my waders never tried wearing them straight like you did tho.
Bro get korkers and you'll never regret it!
I think thest shoe is those shoe sandles the only thing they cant be use in cold weather
I’ve tried Sandles but I bang up my toes and the sides of my feet 😖
Mister...this is not how you do a caparison test...there are lots of reviews on youtube on water shoes...The Shimano you bought are diving boots, they are made of neoprene and are not designed to drain, they are designed to keep water in, and not designed for gripping on rocks.
You’re supposed to wear neoprene booties with the wading boots, that’s why you got sand in the boots. Never wear wading boots without some type of sock.
I will have to get some neoprene socks to go with these soon!
Korkers are the best
(1)Take your socks off
(2)wade boots are going to get wet, everywhere
(3) don’t want wet feet wear waders
(4) the shimano boots are made to protect your feet for flats fishing, oyster shell etc. much like the foreverlast brand I’ve had for 10 years.
(5)those zip up style slip on and off like gloves because neoprene
(6) you want heavy when a ray tries to stab you, not lightweight material with holes next to your toes...
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 wading boot expert over here
Ajsal2 exactly. Both the boots in this vid are good for different scenarios
Why would you use RUBBER on slippery rocks? Look for Simms Tributary wading boots with FELT. Its the only material that has some traction on slippery rocks. They are $99 i believe.
Hi hello from phillipines..
Hello to the Philippines! We would love to go fish there some day!
You need tabis by Izuo
If you have problems with fishing shoes like his video
shoes for all terrain may not be there but the problem lies not in the shoes but the spirit of fishing must keep burning, forget all the feelings that make you uncomfortable, once fishing when going home must get fish
Yes I understand 👍🏼👍🏼 but better to not be uncomfortable if we can help it right? 😅
just use a pair of high top converser like i do
Can Erin give her opinion on best shoes ? asking for women that fish 😁
With the Shimano you don't have to carry water with anymore YAY...and double up as a beer mug how good is that skipper :)
Thanks tailslap!! Yes no more carrying water on your feet 😂
Don't wear socks with the shimanos. It will stink badly. Also it will always get wet inside. It's more for surf fishing. Sandy shores not rocks. They dry fast. Your feet stay warm in colder water.
Thanks for the insight Clint 👍🏼👍🏼 i will be getting some neoprene socks soon
Should wear a wading sock or neoprene socks rather than regular socks
To not slip on the rocks, in Hawaii we have like velcro souls on the bottom of the shoes , and the boot is made of wet, suit materials ,with a big plastic zipper on the side, we call it houlie shoes, you might be able to find them at Walmart, they the best for walking in rocks, beats the shimano shoes, they about $35.00,and they last long!!It has a felt type bottom I walk on rocks with thick slippry moss and wont slide!!You dont wear socks in those shoe's, lol!!!All those shoes are junk!!
Hi I am in Canada
How is Canada?
Very good
