Great video. Really informative especially for those of us in the deep weeds like you. Please do more vids, just you, on whatever you are in to.

Great video! I have a bunch of the Orpheum presses, both Riverside and Jazzland reissues. Never had an issue with the sound. I also have at least one of those plain blue labels, perhaps more. I will dig them out and post in the discord. I have good luck finding Riverside in the shops and of the big three labels, I have more Riverside vintage records then Blue Note or Prestige in my collection.

Great video Mike! I have some Orpheum teals, some sound better than others, but it is definitely something that people should check out! Thanks for showing the different types of pressings that you have in your collection

Hi, very interesting presentation and thanks for sharing your research. Nice collection by the way… I once was told that riverside studio had 2 sets of microphones : one for mono recording and another for stereo recording, thus leading to different sound presentation of the same session. This was - if it existed- probably around 1960, when stereo appeared in jazz session. Any information about this historical and technical topic? J from Paris.

Yes this was the case for a bit, I think Monk’s Music used two separate micings. And the mono mics were better positioned to capture the instruments while the stereo mics were further away, so many people think the mono version is the way to go with this session. Thanks for watching! - Mike

Awesome subject Mike on Riverside I have a few Riversides and some are hit or miss the artists they have did a magnificent job is Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk I’ve been happy with the sounds of the vinyl when it’s in great shape it don’t disappoint. On Jazzland Mike check out Junior’s Cookin’ featuring Blue Mitchell it’s so underrated . Shadow Waltz is one on my list to look for . I agree the Blue Mitchell Blue Soul Originals are so damn good expensive Riverside prices are through the roof right now . I really enjoys your knowledge and sharing which one to pick up thanks Mike.
