Nice video, Mike - thanks 👍 I have the 2022 AP/Prestige release - [Discogs r22729826]. This seems to be made from the same lacquers as the AP 2013 release and has the same matrix-#. It sound just GREAT and better than my OJC 1987 release (which I sold). Have no other versions to compare it to. See you 🙂

Great presentation Mike. I have the 1964 Mono reissue RVG. I cannot hear any hiss or background noise on it. In fact it is a fantastic recording, bright and clear. It sounds like I am in the room with the players. It has the blue label with white lettering and trident btw. Vinyl is VG+ cover is Good. I don't have any other copy to compare it to however.

Great Shootout Mike I had the trident from ‘64 it was clean but the hiss bothered the hell out me when i sold it when I grabbed the KG press from 2012 I’ve been very happy with I still hope one day I find an OG .

I recall Kevin’s upgrade was Audioquest cables. I think everything else remained the same (or mostly). And, yes, I think the later 33-1/3 MMJ releases are better than the 45s, with a few exceptions. Thanks for the deep dive!

i have a 1976 Japan mono pressing that sounds very nice, it's on a translucent black vinyl as well which i always dig on my japan pressings. \m/ \m/

Hey Mike, I compared the AP (it was one of the 2021-22 copies) with my Craft 2017 copy (using a friend’s high end system), and they sound identical, making the 2017 one a great deal! I guess they use the same metal parts, and it was produced during the time AP had lost the license. Regarding OJCs (the old ones), I’ve been able to compare the US ones vs the Germans, and there’s always a big difference in favor of the US OJCs. Best wishes from Chile

I have a 1964 golden trident label mono, a german OJC and the 2017 mono version. The trident wins, but my copy has some hiss, not much, still a good listen. Mine is in VG+ condition, found it for 50,00 2 month ago from a private dealer.

Thanks Mike for the comparison. I have changed my philosophy through the years concerning RVG vs audiophile reissues. I think it depends on what your preference is on a given day. More aggressive sax that is right there in ones face or the more lush fullness and detailed presentation with the audiophile. All in all it is nice to have both options to go back in time with the RVG or to step into the studio more so and have the band more present with the modern audiophile presentation. We are lucky to have both options. Enjoyed the hx of the labels and the video!

Upcoming artists and entrepreneurs in the music industry like JS got to be supported much more than these guys who re-re-reissue back catalogues owned by the big labels with hypie treatments for mega bucks. … traps I have stepped into for way too long.

I love his first album very much, one of the best sounding albums. I’ll get this new one soon, thank you for letting us know about it and reviewing it. We’re lucky to have jazz artists who care about the music and sound quality like Jerome. I’m proud of his work and will be looking forward to listening to this album. Great review - My thoughts: -remarkable bass definition, probably the best bass I've heard on anything I've got. Scott LaFarlo earns his merits here. Yes, it's better than my Riverside. Remarkably better because I remarked about it. - Brush drums are a hard thing to get right, record right, and master/press right. I listen to a lot of early Chicago and they struggled with recording brush drums appropriately. These sound like brush drums. Like Motian knew exactly what he was doing with those sticks. If it isn't done recorded right, it sounds like static, it sounds like brush sticks! - Cymbals sound fantastic. - The piano sounds like a piano and that's saying a lot to me. Bill is being Bill. - The background crowd noise is interesting. Of course I've heard it, but this time, I swear I thought my wife was home and was calling me from downstairs. There's a chick back there that sounds like my wife with her voice raised, not that I've heard it that often! LOL - The sleeve is gorgeous and I just like holding it. It feels amazing.

Many thanks Felipe! What great recordings and albums those are. Absolutely love them. No wonder why they are being reissued to death for mainly nuances. Got rid of the MoFi, will skip the UHQRs and keep my Classic Records/Alto and OJCs.. … won’t get any cheaper, so just cry when the next reissue comes round the corner.

I am tempted to get these. But I really prefer my '92 AP mastered by Doug Sax. It's so rich and warm. I prefer it much more than my OJC 33 rpm mastered by Kevin Gray.

Thanks for the review, Felipe. I also compared the same pressings as you. The UHQR and Riverside box sets are very close -- it was hard for me to hear the differences ... very subtle. Compared against the OJC, I definitely heard what you were talking about how the UHQR was more cohesive musically -- where the band and instrument placement sounded more natural and realistic. The UHQR is the best version but not by much.

I heard Kevin Gray, Bernie Grundman, and Ryan K. Smith are taking 2025 off and then there will be no more reissues ever

That drum kit panning effect should not be in the presentation of this recording, it certainly is not natural in any live context. Possible sources could be speakers too far apart or not towed in enough to create a natural center image. Great video thanks, Tony

Hey guys just like to say I’m a year into getting into jazz and I am really enjoying your show with the three of you. You bounce off each other so well. I don’t do vinyl because I can’t handle the hiss and pop that can come with some older albums I do digital downloads and CD. But your reviews then give me the opportunity to hunt out the album and have a listen on line. Thanks

Nice one Filipe. I’m sticking with the riverside box. I did sell my mofi one step to pay for box. I think the one step would be better than the Uhqr. But who knows. If would need someone completely neutral to test them side by side. I don’t like having multiple copies of same lp.

Awesome video Felipe! I’m waiting for my copies, due to the excessive heat in AZ, they’ll be shipped when temp drops down in late September. I’ve been having too many warped vinyl. It would be nice to see from those who have ERC version of Sunday’s, such as 45 Mike, to give their thoughts on how it compares to the UHQR. I expected the same performance you did experience from those UHQRs, so this is great to find out. Thanks again for the great reviews!

Great video Felipe I received my Bill Evans Sunday at village vanguard UHQR unfortunately the first record was correct and the second record had waltz for Debby 2nd records so I spun both I contacted acoustic sounds hopefully it will be corrected next week but the records sound amazing i need to compare it to my Mofi One step I own.

I already do have the latest OJCs of both albums, also cut by Kevin Gray. These were around 50 Euro each over here, the UHQRs are cheapest 200. So question is, are these 4 times better? For me, I'd stick with the ones I have. They already replaced my entry level digital copies of the PD Labels waxtime and Jazz images, which made a significant difference even though the replaced one's were not ear hurting. Whatever issue, the music is outstanding. Cheers from Germany Klaus

Super Job, as usual Filipe.. With Chad's vision we knew he would work tirelessly to pull out all the value from those recording. This new found granular detail will definitely encourage discovery and longevity for these albums. Amazing review Felipe , I'm waiting for mine to show up to Costa Rica, B Evans is my favorite piano player ever. Love both albums but I'm a SATVV guy , I just love Jade Visions way too much
