Rick makes a straight up jazz video. So glad to see this man.
When he goes from brushes to sticks on “All Blues”, man, that alway gives me a chill. My favorite moment on that amazing record. The feel I chased with my own jazz quintet, “milesahead”.

Legend. The man traversed the history of jazz. How great that he endured this long. Jimmy was playing Blue Note and Smalls up til quite recently.
Kind of Blue is the perfect album in many ways. It's timeless and impossible to grow weary of. Sketches is so moody. Full House is a great album. The title track is awesome, but I really love S.O.S. Jimmy's uptempo ride is sweet--I like how he always was in that space btw'n the triplet and the quarter note. Very sensitive player, but also really called out the quarter note.
Thanks for giving the drummer some, Rick! Jimmy is important.

There's soooo many different stylings of jazz from the early New Orleans sound of the late 19th century across the Swing era of the 30s to the atonal Free Jazz stylings of the 60s through the Jazz Rock and Fusion of the 70s up to contemporary Jazz that encompasses all of these styles and mixes them with whatever influences and instrumentation the composer, band, artist likes. It is unlikely that you dislike all of them :)

@@bernhardkrickl3567, the New Orleans, Swing era, & smooth jazz are the among jazz that i can digest easily. While the rest of the styles probably, i may have to develop good hearing sense to appreciated them.
Since jazz is arguably a highest form of music, i guess certain jazz genre could only appeals to or appreciated by seasoned musicians.
But hey, i really like Coltrane's Giant Steps, maybe i could handle some hard jazz stuff out there.

I love your tribute to Jimmy Cobb, Rick! I was fortunate enough to meet him in person as well in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in January/February of 2002. He was there as part of the International Association of Jazz Educators Annual Conference. It was absolutely life changing for me. Every performance I saw was phenomenal from The Yellowjackets to Renee Rosnes to John Pattitucci Group, Dave Weckl Band, Oscar Peterson, Benny Green & Russell Malone.... so many other legends. Meeting Mr. Cobb was a very casual thing. He was very pleasant to all of us present. The whole event is something I’ll never forget for as long as I live.
Thank you for this video. I love your genuine enthusiasm for music history. Your content has helped me tremendously during this pandemic. Thank you Mr. Beato. Cheers

I love listening to your analysis of songs. But I love even more watching you get excited about music - for it’s that excitement that drives everything you do, that makes us want to notice the details and subtleties. What a wonderful teacher! You bring so much joy.

Impressive note for note scatting Rick. It's obvious how much you love this music. Your enthusiasm is infectious; it's your greatest asset. Keep scatting and air drumming I get it.

Thanks Rick. Just thanks. Watching your videos is like having a best friend you can always rely on when you just need to talk about, listen to, and enjoy music. I'm busy finishing my thesis at the university, so I'm late to these videos. But they're healing me, and I was on the brink of crying looking at the passion you have about music, which I find in every true musician. Thank you from the bottom of my heart

“He was a very special and unusual person - a gifted musician with natural talent, like an athlete. And a gifted human being with a great, happy personality,” his wife Eleana said.
“He played all around the world. He was vibrant up until the end,” she said. “It’s a big deal that he’s gone. It’s very painful. I’m a little bit in shock.”

@@rkk578 The version Rick played is definitely off the original release. You can tell by the improvised solo that Miles is playing. One of a kind.

This are very sad times, the legends are passing away but other future legends are appearing, we have to support them and don’t forget the amazing musicians like him.
