I'd like to offer an alternative to suggesting silicone for sealing exposed fasteners. Being in the roofing industry 4 decades, I also found employment after a back injury, with a prestigious consulting firm. It was there I was educated with sealants and UV exposure. We now have mastics and modified asphalt products in caulking tubes. Silicone ultimately loses bonding properties when exposed to ultraviolet rays. Thank you for your consideration.

We get a lot of rain and during the fall or sometimes customers will have leaves on their roof. Debris on your roof will rot your roof. That's a big no no. Always clean your roof off from debris cuz it becomes a big floppy wet rag like thing and water gets undet there and just rots and pushes sideways and up and rots your decking eventually.

Nicely Done, thank you. Left California last November for Utah. My new home is done and I'm in in a week. Thank God its a single story. I had planned on going up thee to inspect the roof, saw another one of your video's about the bad but not worst roof. That was pretty bad though, it could cost you 10K$ or more to fix bad workmanship. These inspection points are good pointers. Will be looking a caulking. The folks in Southern Utah are all very much pride in workmanship but there are mistakes and there are rotten apples in this world. thanks for the video.

This is off subject a little bit but a lot of times we will go back to check on a leaky roof and it will be a plumbing issue in the Attic where the pipes are not glued or connected. Or their air conditioning system. Lol

Do you have a video on fallnprotection while up doing all of this stuff? I'd like to do this work myself, but I'm afraid of falling off the roof lol. If you don't, can you do a video of how to set up fall protection harnesses, etc.?

I just had a roofer tell me this, when I asked him to use THE ULTIMATE PIPE FLASHING you recommended, instead of the BULLET BOOT: "The bullet boots we use are going to be a lot better than the Ultimate. The bullet boots completely incase the pipe and that one, the Ultimate, can leak with a simple crack in the seal where it meets the pipe." Help? Any thoughts on The Ultimate versus the Bullet? And those remarks? I assumed using the "easy sleeve" that you purchase with the Ultimate for our metal pipes would be a superior flashing to the Bullet, which is made of rubber TPE and TPO material, basically plastic, right? The Ultimate is silicone. Have you used the "easy sleeve" with the Ultimate? I guess I don't want to ask this roofer to use something they are not familiar with, but if the Ultimate is better, I'd rather use that. I think the Bullet will gets cracks sooner, if I'm not mistaken? Again, your thoughts would be much appreciated regarding this and Pipe Flashing.

I agree with you about not asking the roofer to use something he doesn't like using. But the silicone boot on the UPJ won't crack. It's the plastic and neoprene ones that do that.
Yes, if you have a metal pipe you should use the EasySleeve.
I really like the Ultimates. I can get the Bullet Boot here, but I guess I don't feel like experimenting with something else.

@@homesteadroofing The Bullet Boot is made of flexible rubber-like TPE and TPO materials. I read that basically means that the Bullet is made from Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) and thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs), recyclable plastics that can have a rubbery feel, but they are not made from rubber. So, wouldn't the Bullet be as problematic and inferior a product as the neoprene - or if not as inferior, still problematic in the way you mentioned? Wouldn't the Bullet crack? And the Ultimate be the better product for me to get on my roof, despite my roofers hesitancy? I will have to use the Easy Sleeve, too, since my pipes are lead and galvanized steel. I live in an old home. Have you used the Easy Sleeve? How'd that go? You did not answer that part of the question. I think asking the roofer to try something new in this case could prove important, even if there's a learning curve involved. Normally, I wouldn't push, but I must admit that it's your fault, hee, hee. You have made an educated consumer out of me. Have you ever had a customer try to educate you on something? How did that go?

Never have nailed skirt on boots.
If the sky light is installed per manufacturer directions it will be 30 years before flashing. Only one place where you have to expose and seal nail head would be on the straps.

Don’t use silicone it will degrade. Use roofing cement or better
