My dad had a 99 xcr 800 that would do 140 and eat up Thundercats like nobody's business it was clutched and piped with a special type of ice track I can't remember what he called it but anyway there was no actual snow lugs it was all just studs I think it was something that he made
Tuning is the only thing that matters. Most ppl just don't bother getting their sleds dialed in right, so if you have a sled with a good setup you'll beat about anybody regardless of what you have
I had a 96 ultra and put trip pipes on it. NOTHING TOUCHED IT ! It was crazy fast. Faster than it should have been. Even SLP didn't understand why it needed 3 grams more wt in clutch than they recommended ? Over revved 1000 rpm before going 3 grams mote wt than SLP recommended. Once tuned it was stupid fast.
My buddy had the same sled, Ultra with triple SLP’s and I had no problems beating him every time we rode together. He was a pro drag racer too that had placed several times in the pro ice drag on his Indy 600 Improved stocker.
Those 1990s skidoo mock ones were fast they were almost as fast as the 1990 in the 650s and the wildcat 650s not sure if they were also a triple I think they might’ve been a twin
With the polaris you alway had to spend big money on after market parts the skidoos come right out of the factory with balls. And for every dollar that my friends would spend to try and keep up with my stock skidoo I would spend equal money on my sled and just kick there asses worst and that would just piss them off a littel more.
@@snowman5609The 1998 XC700 was good out of the box and so was the 1999-2003 XCR 800. The 2002 XC700 was also very good. Skidoo I always liked the FIII 600 and the 1999 670HO 1997 MachZ 800
David I had every skidoo mach1 from 1989 to 2000 and every machz from 1993 to 2003 and there was not ever a stock polaris in those classes all those years that could could even touch my sleds.
@@snowman5609 Here are my thoughts. The Skidoo were better setup for racing out of the box, the rotary engines had great low and mid range power. Their skids seemed to transfer better out of the hole. The Polaris XCR800 requires some clutching and gearing changes and transfer blocks need to be set right to compete against a Mach Z or Thundercat. The 1998 and 2002 XC700 run good after some clutch/gear changes those 2 sleds can beat a Mach 1 700 if they get traction and are setup properly. The 2002 XC700 had almost the same power as their 800 twin and was detuned after 2002. The Polaris Ultra SPX stock ran good on top but not as good out of the hole as a Mach 1 that race usually goes to the Mach1 but It can go either way on a long run.
Get a kick out of some of these vids my 96 439 cc Polaris has 900 crank 600 rods and 700 pistons does 127.39 in a thousand feet only cost 3500 so wanna go for ownership......lol
I have a 99 670HO gd luck catching it with wildcat...f7s neck and neck He was geared...clutched and lightweight Everything...mines bone stock. 1000ft was dead even 800 xcsp indy..670 ate it
I’ve owned both of these the Mach will win in a straight line but show it some corners and that ultra will be miles ahead it’s like a scalpel and the Mach is like a chainsaw.

i had a 95' Formula Z 583 back a few yrs ago and they were faster then most 600's. i sure did love that sled

My ultra was a 1997 spx, triple pipe geared and tuned, nothing could touch me, was an awesome machine!!

Thats an ultra 680cc. I bet its still stock single piped.
The single pipe on the wedge Ultra was horrible. Triple pipes add 25hp easy and the engine will make power at 8600- 8800 RPM with the right pipes.
