Fate was cruel... for Tiurin's sister came to live exactly how that elf in Doriath claimed Turin's family must live.... with nothing to clothe them but their hair. This SHOULD have clued Turin in, I'd think.... poor guy.
A very credible summary of the tale. I would like to compliment you on your pronunciation of Tolkien’s languages, which to my ear seems accurate and yet never overwrought. I dare say you would have served well as a coach to the actors in Peter Jackson’s films, who sometimes overdid the more exotic sounds. On this topic, what in your view is the correct pronunciation of “Isen” and “Isengard?” My feeling is that the now universally accepted “EYE-sin-gard” is not consistent with Tolkien’s orthographic rules, either for Elvish or Rohirric, and that EE-sin and EE-sin-gard would be more correct. I assume that “AI-sen” was an on-set decision when the films were made, which has now gained traction, but I’ve heard some claim that Tolkien himself pronounced it that way in a recording. Do you have any insight?
Thank you so much! What a lovely comment 😀 The Isengard pronunciation question is certainly one that I've considered before. According to tolkiengateway.net, under the "etymology" section of the article on Isengard, the word is actually Old English for "iron-enclosure." I don't know anything about Old English pronunciation, so I just assume that the "eye-sengard" pronunciation is right 😄 Your comment inspired me do a short bit of sleuthing on UA-cam out of curiosity, and I found the recording! 👍 Here is Tolkien's lovely recitation of the Ents' marching song when they go to storm Isengard: ua-cam.com/video/mprH_47QvSM/v-deo.html Enjoy! 😊
@ very interesting, and thanks for the link. I actually have studied Old English (decades ago, now), but I had forgotten, if I ever knew, that “Isengard” meant “iron enclosure.” It makes sense that Tolkien used an OE name, since (as you are undoubtedly aware) OE was his basis for the language and culture of Rohan. The odd thing is, the scholarly consensus is that in OE, “I” was pronounced “ee,” as in “meet,” or as in “ship.” Tolkien must have known that, so why does he pronounce it “EYE-sin-grad” in the recording? I wonder if he misspoke on the first mention and the just went with it for consistency? That seems unlikely…maybe he disagreed with how I was pronounced in OE…also seems unlikely. Given how reliable his orthographic rules generally are, this evident exception is puzzling, especially since the “eye” sound didn’t exist in OE, as far as we can be sure of such things (this is based on my five-minute review of OE phonology). Another Middle Earth mystery, I guess. If you are interested, here is a quick primer on OE pronunciation: ua-cam.com/video/yvlj3JYTN80/v-deo.htmlsi=8m0o9mugSSqJcGYY
Yeaaa, the Elves weren't super nice to the petty dwarves by hunting them down like animals...it's very easy to forget just how fucked up the Elves could be sometimes.
Turin doesn’t stab Glaurung while he is sleeping?????? He stabs him from below when the dragon 🐉 throws part of his body over the ravine and while is belly is exposed Turin stabs him from below!!!!!! I know their is several versions on the story but this is the main one from the Silmarillion
I have a question did Niniel gave birth to the baby? Or did she learned that was pregnant and that's when she goes after Turin to "help him" fight the dragon?
Good question. She never gives birth to the baby. Once she comes across Túrin and the dragon gives her her memory back, she realizes she's pregnant and commits suicide. It's such a terribly tragic story 😞
Also, another question probably not related to this part of the story, And sorry to bug you hahaha, but do we know more about how those the phial of Galadriel contains the light of Eärendill?
It's probably best that Tolkien didn't include Turin's and Nienor's (Niniel) marriage on the Beor The Old's family tree. Would be strange to see that that they were both born from Morwen and Hurin and then ALSO have that equal sign between them indicating their union...ick! I can also guarantee that Nienor never gave birth to the incestual child. That is just not Tolkien's style, best to end that line forever as doomed as it was. However, poor Hurin had to witness it ALL with the magic sight of Morgoth while imprisoned in Angband!

Melian looks like Kassandra of Middle-earth and, come to think of it, Mandos is like Kassandra of Valinor. Nobody believes prophecies of the wise.
Agreed!
poor finduilas 😔. I wish Turin rescued her😭
I know, it's just so tragic. If only he didn't go to Dor-lómin.
👍 Here is Tolkien's lovely recitation of the Ents' marching song when they go to storm Isengard: ua-cam.com/video/mprH_47QvSM/v-deo.html
Enjoy!

@@obxwave Another Middle-earth mystery indeed! I wish we knew for certain. Oh well! Thank you very much for the link. Old English is so fascinating. 😃
Thanks , again great art
That's melians secret recipe 🤣🤣🤣
Yeaaa, the Elves weren't super nice to the petty dwarves by hunting them down like animals...it's very easy to forget just how fucked up the Elves could be sometimes.
Indeed!
Glaurung is like as long as a skyscraper so there was enough time to do so
I have a question did Niniel gave birth to the baby? Or did she learned that was pregnant and that's when she goes after Turin to "help him" fight the dragon?
Good question. She never gives birth to the baby. Once she comes across Túrin and the dragon gives her her memory back, she realizes she's pregnant and commits suicide. It's such a terribly tragic story 😞
Oh mannnn tragic indeed!!!! Thanks for the clarification!
@@chatterllysrivera5460 No problem!
Also, another question probably not related to this part of the story, And sorry to bug you hahaha, but do we know more about how those the phial of Galadriel contains the light of Eärendill?
@@chatterllysrivera5460 That's a great question! I don't believe that we know the specifics of exactly how the light got into the phial.
Ick indeed! I agree with your comment. It's such a tragic story.
I’m just... like I-...😳
Dang and Heck!
Indeed!
Wow this guy's life really sucked.
It sure did!
