@Hitogokochi Not wearing a seat belt doesn't make you brave, it makes you a selfish fucking idiot who doesn't care that in a crash they will turn into a 80mph missile flying through the front window possibly hurting others and putting their family through a lot of emotional pain. Good job people now have an ounce of common sense so piss off with that 'snowflake' bullshit
I remember seeing that blue Martini clock when I was a kid. Great memories. Just think all that tail gating is from a time when you did not need to wear a seat-belt. Frightening. Thanks for posting
M4 route to Heathrow airport. First opportunity to put your foot down after leaving London traffic. Some reasonably wealthy car owners, some of these were upmarket cars. Most of these cars would be very OK with motorway speeds, disc brakes front and rear on some!
I remember my uncle collecting me and my family in Fulham and driving us to Wiltshire on the first part of the M4 when it opened. It was a short bit of road then but thrilling for a 6 six old to be travelling on a road up in the air above everyone else. Always loved seeing the Lucozade sign. Happy days. A shame adult life has to get in the way!

If you ever want to get a depressing feeling of how our lives are wasted in the capitalist society then sit on this road in rush hour. We rush, treat our fellow man awfully as we rush rush rush, using time unwisely to get more stuff, keeping up with the joneses. A drab road with lots of reminders of the stuff we can own as we rush rush rush but hardly getting anywhere. Everyone stressed and frustrated at the sheer volume of people on the road to hell rushing to earn their stuff and using their time unwisely. I often think if I am on that road in rush hour that surely we have the intelligence to devise a better society. We spoke in lock down of how we loved some of the things like precious time we had during lock down. The sky was clearer, we could see the improvement in the environment. People were kinder? We had time. Yet here we are some months on, supposedly getting back to "normal". The adults taking kids to school would go insane with rage if you dare take a second of their time as they rush rush rush, so much to do and so much stuff to be had. All the caring has gone as we get back to normal.
That's not 1960's that is without doubt about 1971-72,,, notice the Fiat rally car and the Bedford CF going opposite ,, at the very end the red BMW is a J reg 1970-71 car
Dreadful tailgating especially from 45 secs on. The 2 door American car is the worst offender.. Can anybody read the reg on the BMW 02 at 53 secs? I can't quite see if this is a round or square lamp model. I think is the earlier round lamp model; square came in during 1973 and the car doesn't look brand new either.
Now that's a blast from the past if ever I've seen one.
Nice to see that people were late-reacting tailgating idiots even when there was almost no traffic.
Exactly my first reaction! Look at that dick in the American car !
Yeah and with 70s brakes on the cars it was even more unsafe than now!
That took me back. I could name nearly all the cars.
1:07 The old Glaxo Smithkline building, Brentford
People loved tailgating back in the 70s . And when a pile up happened you probably weren't wearing a seat belt and no air bags - nice .
..........and had a glass or 3.....
@@Isleofskye nothing wrong with a quick 'one for the road'.

Nice classic BMW, obviously wasnt a classic in this video but you know what I mean
Driving away from London is the best thing anyone can do. Just dont be foolish enough to return.

Daimler DS420 followed closely by a Cadillac. Lots of tailgating going on.

This is near chiswick. Still quite recognisable although now you have the big GSK building.

The new GSK building is much further along. Not this stretch.

When it first opened I went down there to Maidenhead in the 60s
Not much has changed apart from the fact that there's a lot more traffic and cars accelerate much faster.
+BlueAxeRacer Plenty of tailgating going on though.
And cars are a lot more streamlined and larger
Nice to see a Hilman minx - hunter being tailgated by a Austin 1100 and many others .
Look at how few cars there were on the road back then, compare to today's traffic.
And they all hog the overtaking lane.
Rare sight of an American car in the UK.

@Andrew Wilson ... Yes and not forgetting the Austin gypsy 4x4.
I think tho is the route taken in the 1979 film Radio On. With a tracking shot from one of those high rise on the left.
Looks earlier. I thought it was 1972-74
@@leopoldonotarianni8663 Yeah, I would agree. The film wasn’t made until 78/78ish though.

Lar M London-Carmarthenshire not Swansea (pont Abraham roundabout) unless it was only to Swansea at the time of the footage?
