- I don't normally do a lot of driving in central London and This is why. Lawless cyclist. 20 mile an hour speed limits. And traffic everywhere.
Just the usual bunch of idiots in this video.
It's just me driving in and around London mainly in the Surrey areas seeing stupid drivers everywhere I go.

Having watched all this lunasy I have come to the conclusion that 27 years ago moving out of London was one of my better decisions. What a madhouse, you can have it!
I moved to the highlands best decision ever, get out of the rat race, I was a truck driver, now happy as a kitchen porter, that's how much cyclists done me in, and that when I was only trying to turn left with blaring sounds telling them that vehicle was turning, they are a joke in London
Lunacy
Perfect comment! The place is a nightmare, I moved over a hundred miles away from the festering blot on the landscape over 40 years ago. BLISS!!!😉👍
@@Vteccer666 Spell it how you like, it's still a mad house.
I know I'm gonna get grief for this, but if there was ever a case for cycles being licensed and held to account........
No grief from me.
I believe there is a parliamentary committee actually talking about licensing and insurance and maybe driving license too.
@@phantom62 It still will not stop the idiot cyclist and only punish the good ones. With no policing it will just continue....Licensing will only please those advocating culture wars....them and us...always someone to attack.
@@zbf5h89ftb the ending would have been "this is it". There is no "and"
Well, since @zbf5hj67 appears to have deleted his further comment, I'll add it back here, and reply. "Stephen Hargreaves So, is it a case for bicycles being licenced (note spelling) or for the riders to be licenced? Would a cyclist be permitted to ride multiple bicycles and vice versa. Bearing in mind that all people over the age of majority including cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders, sailors, swimmers, pogostickists etc are already legally responsible for their actions, what more are you expecting to achieve. "
I did note the incorrect spelling of "licensed", thank you. This is a channel from the UK, and I'm in the UK. You know, the nation that invented the English language. And I don't care how it's done, as long as the cyclist can be identified and prosecuted for breaking the law.
I always go into that Tesco in Borehamwood, i've always seen a number of people that park so awkwardly it's mad. The traffic lights at the entrance pretty much do all the work.
Watching this I'm noticing the lack of police. Is there any law enforcement in London? As a cyclist in Staffordshire I'm appalled by how brazen these cyclists are. 😮
The long and short of it is that it's harder to track down cyclists as they aren't required to have a license plate or equivalent. Police can manage it if they really want to, but they can't be arsed. It's not a high profile issue for them. The thing is at least two cyclists are seriously injured or killed on London roads every week. Not always their own fault it must be said. But, putting pressure on those cyclists that flout the rules of the road would make it safer for everyone. If a flimsy bike with a bag of flesh on top gets into a collision with a ten ton truck we know whose coming off worse. And the poor driver will then have to live with knowing someone died under his wheels.
There's a lot of police, they just have a lot on their plate, so unless it's done in front of them they aren't really usually gonna bother to do their job
Brilliant! Many cyclists have established their own sub-culture where it's completely acceptable to break the rules which were established to protect them!
We have crossings with lights in Somerset - probably more usual in the sticks.
Great channel, and especially the sound track on this one too.
Thank you for the trip across Tower Bridge, most entertaining.
I think, perhaps the answer to cyclists ignoring traffic lights is to fit the lights with paintball guns. Run the light, get a paintball in the back!
😂
I'm amazed that nobody on a bike was killed in this video and I don't know why the cyclists run red lights. I know they don't have to stop and start again but that's the only reason I can think of and, considering the speed of cars in London, they'll get where they're going just as soon without running red lights. On a positive note Tower Bridge is bloody impressive and I visited the Tower of London about 40 years ago and still remember it today, ravens and Beefeaters and a bit of tatty jewellery..😁😁😁😁
Check the Highway Code.
Tatty jewellery, philistine.
I cycled in london many times, the dangers of stopping with the traffic and starting as a tonne of cars trucks and white vans coming screaming past you cutting you up at the first parked vehicle are far greater than pre-empting the lights and getting ahead of the traffic. It is obviously against the rules but id suggest the rules are written at a time when traffic was as bad as it is today. Look at the number of people who get crushed up against rails I can only say they would be alive today if they could get ahead of the traffic
Highway code book stated cyclists MUST stop at red lights.
You can bet your bottom dollar that if any cyclist was knocked off their bike after going through a red light, that they'll be pointing the finger at the motorist!! 🙄
yep, on their phone ringing the police and the media, perpetual victims.
Run a camera, whether you're on two or four wheels.
Even going for a walk in central london is risky to your health- all because of the cyclist's jumping the lights. Maybe Khan should focus on them. Would make a fortune.
Whilst I don't agree with red light jumping, vehicles kill hundreds of pedestrians every year whilst cyclists I believe on average one.
@@edj4833 So by that logic, if I ride a moped that is not very heavy and no faster than a decent cyclist, can I ignore road rules too? Of course not. A red light is a red light and does not offer mitigation to one vehicle type over another. Cyclists that use the roadways are required to stop just as any other vehicle is. The only reason they don’t is because they are never held to account.
@@bty2550 you misread my comment. I clearly stated I don't agree with red light jumping, in the very first sentence.
My point is that people jump on cyclists as being the main risk to pedestrian safety, when by a factor of one hundred the culprit is the traditional motor vehicle.
@@edj4833I most certainly did not misread your comment. The topic here is about cyclists who run red lights. Most do. Of course any collision between a vehicle and a cyclist/pedestrian will never end in injury for the vehicle driver ( unless maybe a motorcyclist), but that’s a different conversation.
@@bty2550 yeah, but you answered me as if I'm supporting red light jumping, which I'm not. The key point is not that it is OK to jump red lights, it's that people often slam cyclists as the biggest rule breakers and biggest problems for road safety, when a good majority of vehicles exceed speed limits, tailgate, etc etc and a substantial aggressive minority really don't care about anyone else but themselves. Most people, unlike other countries in Northern Europe, struggle to give kids the independence to walk around by themselves, not because of all the cyclists, but because of the behaviour of vehicles. Yes this is a discussion about red light jumping, but I'm arguing that many drivers are hypocritical in painting cyclists as rule breakers when the majority break a lot of rules too to more dangerous effect.
I'm far too terrified to break the rules of the road when I'm out cycling. I can't help but imagine the day I go through a red, or into the wrong lane (especially oncoming like some of these nutters) is the day I get struck by another vehicle and either end up badly injured or dead. And I absolutely _hate_ having a long line of traffic stuck behind me, if I'm travelling down a road that doesn't have enough passing space (like a smaller road with rows of cars parked on one side / both sides). It just makes me feel self-concious and uncomfortable knowing the cars are being slowed down to a crawl because of me. So I usually try and find a safe spot to pull over, and wave the line past and then get going again once it's clear. Makes me more comfortable, feel safer _and_ has the added benefit of surprising the motorists in a positive manner and make their commute just a teeny bit less stressful. I usually get quite a few waves of thanks or thumbs up for it, which is always nice :)
Thank you for the sight seeing.... I love old architecture... Old buildings, old homes.... I'm not a fan of anything built after the 1950s...prefer much older stuff... Which is why I've always wanted to live where there are castles, keeps, Manor homes, etc..... The house I live in is at least 80 years old if not older... I think historical buildings and homes should be maintained.... Charleston, South Carolina has an awesome area down town and on the water front surrounding battery park where the homes etc are 300 plus years old, and is kept just like it was back then, gas lamps, no pavement, it's just stunning.... London, while it has beautiful architecture, has too much stuff, building wise.... Way too much real estate. I wish it had be preserved better.....
First time watching this episode. Liked the bluesy music at the end.
At 1:26 in the video, there's a zebra crossing with lights. In Portugal, the rules follow a hierarchy: Police hold the highest authority, followed by Semaphores (the lights), vertical signals, and lastly, road markings. While all are crucial, if there's ambiguity, hierarchical power should prevail. So, in this case, traffic lights should take precedence over the zebra crossing. However, if the lights are malfunctioning for some reason, then the zebra crossing rules should apply. I'm not certain about the UK procedures, but it's likely similar, I presume.
One thing I want to say, thank you for always stopping BEFORE the cycle box. Where I live everyone is bloody stupid, stops inside of them, edges forward into them when the lights are red. Why are you moving, do you think going forward will make the lights change? I can't understand it
8:13 The law requires cyclists to stop at a red light but it does not require pedestrians to stop on a red man. So they are not as bad as each other. A red man sign is merely an indication to the pedestrian that red light for vehicular traffic may not be on and so vehicles can proceed if safe to do so, but pedestrians can still cross and have priority over the waiting traffic.
I didn’t mean anything rule wise I meant safety wise
@@thelondondashcam The danger to pedestrians comes from drivers going on green when it is not safe to do so and not giving way to pedestrians on the carriageway.
Not in this case however, the danger came from cyclist going through red lights
@@thelondondashcam Which cyclist going through a red light posed a danger to which pedestrian? I can't see one. What I can see is the motor cyclist going while pedestrians are crossing in front of him - that is the danger.
@@ditch3827 oh goody, a professional know it all right fighter. The good news is that cyclists are putting themselves in danger regularly and will get what they are asking for sooner or later.
Maybe Sadiq Khan can use the £12.50 tax to put signs at every traffic light saying " cyclists MUST stop at red lights" . I was crossing under the green man and a cyclist just missed me as he went through the red light. Nothing will be done until pedestrians get injured or killed.
A woman was killed by a cyclist in London. The cyclist was prosecuted under a 19th century act charged with furious riding.
@@chrisbagley8104 Yep, and that makes the news because it is a very rare occurrence. Do pedestrians or cyclists make the news when killed by drivers?
@@michaelgurd7477 Usually when they get killed. Bad news sells well.
@@michaelgurd7477Errr- yes. Both. The pedestrian who was killed and the cyclist who killed her?
@@bty2550 Sorry, I really should read what I type. What I meant to say was does it make the front page when either a pedestrian or cyclist is killed by a driver.
The last time I made that trip was six years ago in a bus. This was way more fun! Have a good weekend!
Thanks for the tour. I drove across there on a visit to the UK some years ago (before the charges were imposed).....
My car has 14 areas of minor damage from supermarket car parks. Since I started parking like the first picture in your video I haven't had anymore damage to my car.
I’m sure that guy in a high viz jacket is a cyclist that stops cars jumping queues to turn using the wrong side of the road, he’s a UA-camr
Mentioning no names, but that guy is a real prick. I have to say that I am a little surprised that he has not been steam-rollered into the tarmac before now.
I gather this journey might have been just a tad outside your comfort zone! Well done for not hitting that cyclist as you turned left.
Cyclists would rather risk getting run over than stop and then put in the effort to start again. 🙄
Please remind me, who caused just about all the deaths on our roads? I'll give you a clue, it's not cyclists or motorcyclists? It's amazing how unaware of their own bad driving most drivers are.
@@garyboyle695 very true but clearly cyclists aren't helping the situation.
Not true. I always prefer to stop. Gives me a chance to catch my breath and take a break. Pls stop generalising cyclists.
@@TT-fn1xb fair enough but the 23 minutes of video I've just seen begs to differ
@@garyboyle695 what a ridiculous thing to say to support illegal behaviour. Gary, I’ve never killed anyone in my 30-odd years as a driver. That’s a perfect record. Based on your silly argument can I ignore red lights too?
Thirty years ago there was a zebra crossing at the east end of Bridge Street in Stratford upon Avon that also had pedestrian controlled lights, just on the bend where the traffic swept north onto Bridge Foot. I always waited until the traffic lights stopped the traffic, too high a risk otherwise.
Cyclist aren't consequenced for going through red that's why they do it so rampantly.
100% agree. People are saying they do it for this reason, that or the other. Let’s be honest, if they were made accountable in the same way that other road users are, they would very quickly learn the difference between red and green
I watched this video twice and not once did I see a police, either in a car or on foot. Is it any surprise it's like a free for all out there where nobody cares. Where are all those thousands of Met police? I haven't driven through London for a couple of years now, and I'm glad of it. Keep up with the great videos.
Try being a pedestian in London. If you dont get hit by a red light running cyclist then you will get hit by an illegal scooter. Note the ILLEGAL. And what do the police do
Oh LDC about the zebracrossing. In the Netherlands the rule is: If it is combined with trafficlights, it is the following. If the lights are active, the crossing does not count, however pedestians have to use it within 300 meters. If The lights are not functioning, the Zebra gets priority and also the 300 meter rule.
600m diversion to cross the road? no jaywalking within 20m or so would be acceptable but 300m is excessive. In UK the council can only impose no-cross areas by metal barriers since there aren't any jaywalking laws.
You missed a big one. At 20:58 there's a guy on an electric scooter. He's riding in a perfectly legal manner. He's going in the right direction, he's not speeding or going obstructively slow and (as far as I know) he hasn't gone through a red light. However, privately owned electric scooters are not currently legal on the road. They can't legally go faster than 12.5mph even if they are legally hired from an approved hire company. Because they have a motor they are required to be licensed and insured, but the laws for that have not been finalised. As a result they cannot comply with insurance requirements and cannot legally register their scooters. To be clear they aren't breaking the law (as long as they stay below 12.5mph), they just haven't been made legal.
Is anyone keeping count of how many deaths and injuries caused by bikes? Almost none compared to cars. How many cyclists obeying the laws are run over anyway? ME. Rammed from behind in cycle lane. Broken ribs and wrist and the driver of the van stopped long enough to squirt me with salad creme, then drive off through a red light. Eight witnesses. Broad daylight. Two days in hospital. Of course, no one will be brave enough to answer.
a drive into central london is like navigating a saloon in the wild wild west! And with so many cameras you would have thought TFL coffers would be full!
Willand in Devon has 2 pedestrian operated traffic lights .
I’ve live in this village for 22 years .
They’re been there here before I move here .
At 37 cycles I lost count …
I thought that my Elecricity Bill was shocking ⚡️ but some of the shenanigans posted on here take it to another level 😮😮😮
Keep it coming Tony 👊👍
My school used an old Sherpa van covered in rust, the sliding door didn't always close and the handbrake didn't work
I love watching your videos, I normally try to follow the view to see if I know the location, this one was very obvious for me as it’s been one of my travelling routes a few. 👍
Thanks for the wee ride over Tower Bridge.
Morning after a concert at Finsbury Park. Summer 2022. Sat outside the cafe to the entrance to the park, by the travelodge, 4 way lights with box junction, drank a tea and had breakfast and lost count within 5 minutes of the number of cyclist red light jumpers and beeped horns as they nearly got mown down, then they had the audacity to swear at motorists. Yes motorists are by no means perfect, but can you imagine if cars just disregarded reds. Chaos.
Some 1 way streets for motorists have a bike lane going opposite direction and traffic lights sometimes have lights for cyclists so they can move off first
They do and I pointed them out in this video
Yes, and there was one cyclist who went through a red on a dedicated set of traffic lights for the cycle lane @17:37. This also happens at lot on CS2 at the junction by the bow flyover and A12, there's a dedicated separated cycle lane, complete separate sets of lights for the cycle lanes and motor lanes, phased to keep the cyclists safe, and about 50% of the cyclists completely ignore the lights asking to get left hooked in the process.
@@ianmason. I pass this junction a lot and you are 100% correct.
@@jjharson7344 Yeah it's sad isn't it. There's a nasty history of cyclists getting killed by left turning lorries at that junction, the principal reason that it has got such good cycle infrastructure now, but so many cyclists ignore or abuse it. We desperately need better cycling training - even if it was just showing them picture after picture of what can happen if you go down the side of a lorry that's indicating to turn to that side.
The School mini bus, with the not so nice exhaust emissions has a valid MOT until April 2024. As of April 2023 has done 159,626 miles in 7 years(22,800pa).
Loved the Tower Bridge crossing my old girl used to love visiting London when she was alive used to take us about an hour to cross it she'd look at every brick lol great memories thankyou and cyclists yeah same old eh
Pedestrians do not have to wait for a green man to cross at a pedestrian crossing so though not advisable they weren't technically doing anything wrong.
Surely a green man is on a Pelican crossing, and I am sure they SHOULD stop !
@@malgf4145 pelican, puffin, Pegasus or whatever pedestrian crossings with lights pedestrians do not have to wait for the green man to cross. Like the rest of the Highway Code MUST (not) and SHOULD (not) are two different things. The first being an order to do(not do) something and the second a suggestion of best practice . Madness I know but that's the way it is.
@@robp1316 Which is why I put 'should' in caps !
I'd say that this primarily seems to be a city problem, I live in Devon and very rarely see cyclists running red lights.
Was looking at the clip with the cyclists over the line (mum waited). I actually think they should be able to pull forward that much. Make the front area the cyclist's stop zone and what was their zone should be boxed. So many times I've seen them almost taken out as they wobble start to pedal. Better for them to be out there with the gap to get them started before they become an issue to other road users. That said it's not exclusively them, the little boy racers fresh from a 6 hour session Gran Turismo or GTA pose more of a threat to them but they cycle like they're invincible I think they forget we motorists are encased in metal etc (hard shell editions lol) whereas they are encased in lycra and skin (both super soft and tearable, I'm sure you'll agree). I know I'd rather approach them when they're stable and pedalling smoothly and not the wobbly 4 year old, but hey that's just my opinion. Another great vid LDC, 👍👍👍
Thank you for showing us the Tower Bridge (Americans, take note "Tower" not London Bridge, it's a different bridge). Fergie (not that Fergie, U.K people) was singing about a different bridge, that one collapsed. Anyway, thank you, it is cool to see a national landmark in use by people and I despair at these cyclists ever getting in a car because they behave in exactly the same manner.
Yes, we know. London Bridge is actually now in Arizona. :D
@@jaycee330 Good grief, it collapsed that far? I think it's only fair we get at least a loan of Monument Valley then.
London Bridge didn't collapse, but was sold to Americans who thought they were buying Tower Bridge. It is a nice stone bridge, somewhere in the USA.
5:00 Lambretta doesn't seem to have a MOT, it's old but not old enough to be exempt.
C - Suffix is 1965 which is more than 40 years old so is indeed exempt.
@@shardlake I stand corrected, govt website says Date registered
1 March 1995 but that's clearly wrong.
The London Dash Cam. That white mini-bus is taxed until Dec 2023 and MOT`d until April 2024, but you are correct about how it could possibly pass an MOT blowing black smoke like that. The owner/driver would probably say the fault occurred after the test was made, obviously the Traffic cops in your area are either asleep or non-existent.
There are no traffic officers any more
The garages were closed and sold off to developers
When did you last see a police motorcycle? They have only a small handful left
The junction were you was about 4.00 red light is for straight on bus and other vehicles turn left are ok that’s why your lane was still on red but opposite you they had green
Really good content keep it up
I think the reason bicyclers jump red lights is
1/ they see others doing it
2/ impatience
3/ low probability of being caught
4/ they feel it's a safer option as they can do a stretch of road traffic free
5/ the sensors don't pick them up so they have to wait for a car to come before the lights change
6/ they perceive it as being safe and not affecting anyone else
Some of these reasons also explain why people speed
The cycle boxes at lights are a waste of space as so few stop in them and just go through far as they can when the light is red.
Law to themselves until they get hit/ runover then its always the motorists fault. Great video. See this all the time but what can you do?
Statistically speaking, although I don't agree with it, red light skipping is rarely the cause of cyclists getting hurt, as most cyclists at least realise it's wrong and do a hefty amount of observations before doing it, essentially treat reds as give ways.
What gets most cyclists is vehicles either emerging without looking or ramming from behind, possibly when on the phone.
There is absolutely no excuse for going through red lights. It is totally indefensible whatever vehicle you ride/ drive. End of discussion!
@@stephenjones9620 read my comment carefully and you will notice I stated clearly I don't agree with red light jumping by cyclists. However my point is that people make a massive noise about red light jumping by cyclists and ignore much more dangerous activities by drivers and much more dangerous threats to cyclists. My point is not that I support any kind of illegal road user behaviour, it's just that the general focus is not in the right place.
Many thanks for sharing with us. Very entertaining. Lost count of the number of cyclists jumping red lights!!! Some bad driving as well!!! All typical!!! Stay well 👍👍👍
I lost count after the first minute 😂😂😂 great video sir
Ill have to start jumpng red lights on my motorbike as ive decided i now identify as a cyclist 😂
Now now, that’s a different conversation that also makes my piss boil😡
2:07 - I regularly drive this way and often people cut across like this, even from lane 3! I don't get it. Even if one goes the wrong way there is another junction up ahead which goes in more or less the same direction
Vulnerable road users are users that don’t know or don’t follow the rules of the road, so we vehicle drivers have to bear the brunt of them.
OMG I couldn't be doing with driving in London anymore! I haven't been there for years and you're experiences have just made me avoid the place at all costs! Mr Khan has done his bit too, making the place a mine field of traps and just generally unpleasant! Cambridge has always been a good place to spot kamikaze cyclists, probably better described as morons on a bike rather than the rare genuine law abiding cyclists.
.... and they wonder why they are high on the injury/fatality lists. PS... how can I send you one of my clips?
9:57 He's not doing alright. He didn't signal his turn.
Shame on local authorities for allowing these cyclist to be exposed to this potentially fatal type of danger.
I often do the same route on my way to work in the mornings and will often shout at the cyclists going through the red lights. It's not big, not clever and just gives cyclists a bad name. If you'd been doing it 30 minutes earlier you would've seen even more doing it!
So drivers don't run red lights then or drive while using their phones? No wonder so many die on our roads with idiots like you driving.
I saw more buses on Tower Bridge than we get all day in our village!!
and cyclist still expect drivers to give them plenty of space ,,ALL CYLISTS SHOULD have number plates and ins
ALL vehicles using the roads, should have registration plates, Insurance and the driver or rider have passed a proficiency test. The vehicle should also have working lights, brakes and tyres with adequate tread. Make the Law Equal and punish these cyclists. I once had a cyclist run red light, hit side of my car (£2,000 damage) he got up, jumped back on bike went way he came - I was stuck in traffic as it was one way. Reported it to Police, nothing done.
I lost count of how many cyclists, went through red lights 🚴🏻♂️.Thanks The London Dash Cam 🚕👍
I've lost count of the number of drivers that go through red lights and those on their phone and the number that's being killed or injured by motor vehicles. What is the current death rate? The problem is drivers and not cyclists.
The standard of cycling is pretty poor. I think a voluntary proficiency test that gives you a rebate on VAT for cycling equipment would be a good start for encouraging better cycling.
Love your channel .👍👍
How does the smokey minibus pass ULEZ?
Dont think they are official zebra crossings on supermarket car parks. Private land, so just walk ways and lights put in by the land owner.
Cyclists going through a red light need to be given an on-the-spot fine of £200.
If they appeal it, it rises to £1000
Respect the rules of the road
Thanks, that was a really good video. Take care.
I cycle to get around and you see all these bozo's just doing as they please though honestly it's because when on a bike and everyone else is doing it, you feel a bit like an idiot for following the rules. The amount of times I'll wait at lights and have other cyclists just pass through or go onto the pavements is annoying because when you're on the bike your brain goes... I could just do that too. I don't because hey I like being alive and safe but I get why they do.
Wait a minute, are you telling me that the moped rider @ 6:44 riding on the opposite of the road, emerged from the bridge with railings to their left, meaning they couldn't return to the correct side of the road without actually climbing over it, thought that was a good idea? Oh ffs.
Nothing like a Friday night, chilled bottled of wine watching London Dash Cam 🤣😎🤣😎
I lost count after about 4 or 5 bikes running red this is madness. Doesn't anyone know the highway code.
I loved the Fox on the first minutes LDC. Remarkable that car on Google earth. Because GE is not updated any second is it? So is it there often and does the guy need new glases. Thank you for a wonderful video again LDC.

@@andyalder7910 Yes I saw it. Also on Google Earth and it is still there. I live in The Netherlands and am Dutch, and could not find the right spelling on the place. So I had to look it up looking good where LDC zoomed. It is still there indeed 😂
You don't say about the mopeds & scooters riding the white line between two lines of running trafic ,very dangerous
I'm all for cars obeying the highway code , but cyclists shouls be exempt (I'm not one myself) ... they can react quickly so why sit at a red light for no sencible reason ? they are endangering no one but themselves. Look at these two mupet pedestrians waiting cos the red man is showing! 7:58 the guy with the hard had shows them how to cross ... needless obeying of stop signs !
No police but I did see 2 of our company trucks. Councils put in cycle lanes and truck manufacturers put in warnings and sensors and they even had their own traffic lights but still they put them selves in danger and don’t think of anyone else around them. If I ever knock a cyclist off when it’s his fault I won’t feel bad about it. I also ride a cycle to work some days and stop at the lights and I’m never late because I set off a bit earlier.
Cyclists are part of what I call The LLCC, that's the London League of Colourblind Cyclists. No payment or fees due. Path or road, all the same. You should go to the Lord Rockingham at E & C. Cycle Superlane --- Never Used
These videos just cement my feeling that redesigning civilisation for the car was a disaster, made travelling within our communities miserable, and destroyed our towns and cities. We've forced most people to drive and inadvertently put stupid people in cars. I'd much rather these people were pedestrians and cyclists than drivers because the car is infinitely more dangerous.
Hiya London Dashcam! Quality video as usual
As always!
6:23 and the road positions of the two cars infront of you..?..
You've never seen a zebra crossing with traffic lights ??!!
They are everywhere.
I've seen cyclists going on the pavement in Pontypridd not dismount when it's not a shared or split cycle lane, even nearly got hit by a rude idiot cyclist in Cardiff once again on the pavement illegally cycling on it
I am a cyclist and nothing annoys me more than other cyclist going through red lights. So dangerous.
Ah, a sensible cyclist amongst us! Well done that man!
Please don't apologize for cyclists running red lights, that's that cyclist's fault not yours. I don't see any drivers apologising for the ones that run red lights, don't give way at junctions or roundabouts or even worse, those on their phone. The real menace on our roads are cars not cyclists. You're just enabling them which is sad.
I am a car driver and a cyclist. I am embarrassed by what I see. Please note we are not all the same. I obey ALL the road rules and I don't even push in at lights though I could. I have found that 99% of car drivers give me plenty of room when overtaking and I thank them. Van drivers are a bit different, but hey. Thank you for your videos.
Here is why some Cyclists go through some red lights. A cyclist can see the opposite lights, so typically they are using the yellow or red light of the opposite light to go instead of waiting through the "all-red time".
Check the highway code, that's not how traffic lights work.
That by no means justifies it, and 99.9% are just ignorant and your making excuses to cover them
@@VespaT5 - if it's safe, causing no danger or inconvenience to others, why not proceed? Cyclists are moving away from a strictly legalistic mindset. Pedestrians have been enjoying this privilege for years.
I can imagine how that excuse would go down in court for a vehicle driver. The ONLY reason cyclists don’t stop for red lights is because there is no accountability for them. If the bike was fitted with some kind of recognition tag that could be read at junctions, it’s rider would soon learn to tell the difference between red and green once the fines started coming in.
@@bty2550nope, its not a lack of accountability, it’s because sometimes it’s safer for them, more convenient and doesn’t put others at risk like a motorist going through red might.
Nice Lambretta about 5 minutes in.
Some really good examples of cyclists safely treating red lights as a give way. The law needs updating, it’s clearly not an issue to anyone but frustrated drivers.
Why don’t we allow motorcycles and cars to safely use traffic signals as give-ways too? Let’s do away with them altogether and let trucks and buses in on the action too. Traffic lights are there for a reason for all road users to comply with, whether you like it or not.
@@bty2550 well, by that stretch we should let motorised traffic use shared use pavements. In fact why bother with roads at all! Let’s all drive around on shared use paths with a max speed of 15mph
@@shm5547My last comment was of course ridiculous, but let me remind you that you started it.
17:36 as a cyclist this is why we need to get rid of cycle lanes, I prefer the road it’s actually safer as long one is observant follows the Highway Code and if giving way to other faster moving vehicles if helps the flow of traffic as if one does this the roads for cyclists are a none issue
Roads are only dangerous if you make yourself a target 🎯
Strongly disagree. We need to get rid of rubbish cycle lanes, the high quality ones can stay. Whilst you and me may be confident on the road, there are a whole load of people who don't cycle due to well founded safety concerns, ie a minority of aggressive incompetent drivers. In Netherlands a massive cycling population is achieved by having a great cycle infrastructure, hence you regulary see 80 year old grandmothers going to and fro by bike.
You don't have to use cycle lanes, they are optional. Cyclists, and indeed pedestrians, are free to use the main carriageway if they choose to, unless signed to say they are prohibited.
been a cyclist for about 40yrs, in my early teens i did the same run reds, then a very close call with a car changed that, from then on i stopped at every red light used hand signals when turning, use every cycle lane. it boils my p@@s when i see cyclists run reds and no lights at night,
I had to do a CBT to ride a 125cc motorcycle plus have a driving license MOT certificate road tax and insurance cycling should have to have do at least a CBT for the same principle for safety
Are we going to use the word "lawless" to describe drivers, the majority of whom go over speed limits fairly regulary, which is a great deal more dangerous?
Not saying cyclists should skip lights, but so many people hyper focus on cyclists when even proportionally they are nowhere as near as dangerous as drivers, even if they do pull some low level stuff.
And I both drive and cycle.
So your telling me going 5 mph faster than you should is more dangerous than a bike entering a junction with cars going 30+ mph?
@@Matty27 yes, because you are then risking not being able to stop in an adequate distance if a child steps out in the road, even at 5mph over, which as kinetic energy is squared, is quite a lot. In a two ton speeding piece of metal, this is significant.
Whilst I don't agree with skipping reds on a bike, it's not a major cause of accidents as the cyclists that do it treat them as yields, which is what happens at other junctions anyway. The cyclists that do it don't enter them when drivers are doing 30.
According to studies only about 2% of bike related collisions happen when bikes are skipping reds, a majority happen when cars emerge without looking or when cars ram bikes from behind. This is my experience, I have to be super careful to check that an emerging driver is going to stop for me, but on a lot of reds I'm stopping out of respect for the highway code, not immediate threats to my safety.
Are there any cyclists who have watched this video, willing to explain why so many ride through red lights? I'd love to know the reason.
For them it's about not having to stop a lot. Many of them don't like stop and go since it's powered by our legs. I quite enjoy it, it built up my fitness and I have a lot of explosive power now to get up to speed. There's a lot of good junctions in Manchester where the cycle lane is completely separated from the road (between road and pavement) that actually skip lights completely if you're going left and have their own cycling lights if you're going right/straight. Those are great
Basically there’s nothing stopping them from just going, and since they don’t want to stop and then have to build speed again, they just go.
@@Ezekiel_Burton So I guess, a bit like runners who continue to jog on the spot when forced to stop? Whereas cyclists clearly can't pedal and stop. I just feel you're putting your life in danger going through a red light. Is this how you see it or not?
For safety and convenience, whilst not putting anyone else at risk.
Would be nice if this post was sent to the people who updated the Highway code to give Pedestrians and Cyclists more Protection
Your thoughts on ULEZ expansion?
It’s all about money I can pollute as much as I want as long as I’m willing to pay
I plan to vote for Sadiq once more
He’s definitely not for me, but it’s your right to vote for whoever you want.
The South East and London in particular suffer the most congested roads and bad behaviour by cyclists. The worst about it is that whatever happens there eventually spreads to the rest of the UK.
A question here I was always told by the police who gave some lectures on driving that to be a pedestrian you must pick up your bike and carry it ,if you push it your still a cyclist true or false explain your answer in words of one syllable or less so bikers can understand stand
It's a good job they changed the highway code to make it safer for vulnerable road users.
Sadly the references to cycles is the rule not the exception
