    If you've ever felt like your slap bass sounds okay but not amazing, I hear you.
    There are some bass players, like Victor Wooten, who make it look so easy - and they do it so fast that it's almost impossible to figure out what they're playing. But here's the thing…
    All of these techniques are built from simple patterns that you can play! So long as you know the pattern.
    In today's NEW video, I'm breaking down one of Victor's most famous slap techniques - so you can start playing it at your own pace and work your way up to his tempo.
    As always, see you in the shed…
    Scott :)

      Don’t mistake it for Marcus‘ double thumb signature phrase as featured in the main line of „Power“ e.g. though. 😊it’s a similar percussive fast sound but very different in terms of technique.

    i usually ghost the note after the hammer. so it's open, hammer, thumb (ghost), pluck. or even ghost the last pluck too to sound more percussive.

      And THAT is the weird thing about English. Those weird expressions. I have NEVER seen musicians with a blue skin, still many of them think that they have the blues. Why BLUE? No wonder you all look so sad. Here we"ve got a dude that has a ghost in his thumb. You all write bass, and still you all call it a base. What the CPlation is wrong with the European word bas?! In short, you all are pretty confusing. Excuse me, when you are so unlucky to have British ancestors (or ensesters), please switch to Suomi, the language in Funland, ASAP. Just because English is not punny at all, for music lovers especially. Got that? Agree? See you at the town square, for a pint and a party. Pubs? Bugger off, those are bars. Pubs are public LIBRARIES. You all are doing things wrong. Just one example.... Did the euro coin drop, this time?

      That is a compulsive disorder. You do not have to do anything with these stupid games. You are free to do a great walk (they call it a hike, maybe) in nature WITHOUT a stupid smart phone in your pocket. Forget these screens for one day, please. That's lol. Lol is fun in Dutch. And we do not HAVE to be fortissimo.

    Did you know you could pull off triplets in chord format. Not easy but can be done. Sound better than open string that has no reason to be in chord that it's used over. So try that. But the open hammer pluck will have to be inverted at times to make actual chords in the triplet. Good luck. I could post a video on it if you like.

    Unpopular opinion (maybe): Slapping “through the string” is not actually slapping. It’s using the thumb as a pick. I’ll never get used to seeing it. Maybe call it something else? True slapping is Louis Johnson, Mark King, Flea, etc.

    • @buckemptier
      @buckemptier Рік тому

      that's true technically it is not a slap but a pluck. And you're right that what Flea does has a much thicker low end, not as fast but more percussive I think

    • @bassically7882
      @bassically7882 Рік тому

      @@buckemptier Yeah, still good playing. I just see people lately barely moving their hands off the strings, it’s all in the thumb movement.

      You make a good point here which I have raised with Scotty but he never replies. In order to slap,you have to impact the strings on frets . The term slapping through the strings is wholly misleading and Scotty glosses over it without providing anything like the detail he did on the vertical bounce off. What you have to do is aim to land your thumb in the gap between the slapped string and the next nearest the floor and use that string as a brake. But in doing so try and slam it into the frets

      These brothers have names, and names have INITIALS and initials are ALWAYS written in UPPER CASE. So you are a sloppy slapping moron. Can't change it into anything better. And you are NOT ma son, nor ma bro. Please change that "my son"... I don't believe they cut stones by hand anymore, so a mason you are NOT. Weirdo maybe. Write (Weirdo) please. I dare you.

    There is no need to raise your pinky like that when you open hammer pluck, you can anchor your pinky. Open + hammer is only ever (really) on the E A and D, no need to do it, if we are talking really optimizing your technique
