This whole channel is like an amiable lecturer and team fronting a practical, immediate effects based aerodynamics/aircraft design course..! Thanks man.
You did a nice job on the hydro. Great idea, a plane that looks like a boat, and is comfortable on land, water, and in the air. Well thought out, good design.
Hey Bill, Yeah, the rudder works fine, just takes some a couple flights to get use to. I may wire the 2 motors to the yaw/rudder if I can figure that out.
really nice model! haven't seen any builds with the stubby wing lengths that can actually leave ground effect. really good. I like your word mashup, about the spontoons !
Dave, got an idea, make your hydro so that when its on the water you can scoop up water in a pill bottle and then when you get over land you can drop it on a target. Maybe with a servo/trapdoor setup. Just an idea.
Hey Dave, I had an idea for your wanting to turn off one motor in flight. You could use a servo in the gear slot to close and open the circuits for the 3 wires between the esc and the motor... I'll post a video response to better explain that.
On our twin cargo plane, we plugged the motors into different channels for differential thrust, and when we have throttle cut on only one motor works. It is very simple :) Actually unplugging it may be a little bit "jarvesy" ;)
Ok i have to admit...I put off watching this video a few times because I thought the concept was kinda blah. But I was very wrong. This really does look very cool and I'm sure it would be a blast. Now I want one!!
Dave, I often hear you asking, "where's the wind coming from?" during your videos. Why not make yourself a portable windsock...get a fiberglass bike flag pole (approx. 5 ft. tall) and tie a couple of bright silk streamers to it. Plant it in the ground wherever you're at and wah-lah! You'll always know which direction the wind is blowing with a quick look.
You know what would be cool? building a huge aircraft carrier in the middle of the pond and have RC F-15, 16s taking off and land on it. Might not be feasible an idea... but its an idea... I love the videos btw...
2 thoughts... isnt there something in your radio which mixes the throttle with the elevator , so that as you throttle up, it automatically gives elevator down to counteract the nose-up tendency? also, in a one-motor-out condition, perhaps the torque of the spinning propeller will counteract the droop from the side with the dead propeller?
You mentioned the rear area doesn't have much bulk for strenght. Now could 6mm depron be glue from rear forward and carpet tape so it would be wider and raise the rear up a 1/2" or skids be glue and form a nice shape for take-off and landing in grass and water. Can plans be bought for the type of plane waater system, thanks for your time. What size motors are in place.
Hey Dave love your vids just wanted to say a neat mod i did on my hydroplane was a big flat piece of foam on the bottom just behind the pontoons to create a kind of thrust vectoring worked great on my plane gave it more speed and elevator controls. But idk if it will work on yours cause mine was different but it looks like it will.
this videos awesome very cool but may i ask i knw theres a camra on the plane but when u switch to ur normal camra nd u can see the plane i dnt see the camra is it like really small or green screened or something plz reply thanx
Xamparia!! its 3.5V or a little bit less and then you get have this sudden drop down in voltage thus in power. But in Dave's case it could be the cut-off mode these ESC's have!
Dave: Fantastic work! It is great to see how happy you and Val are up there in your new digs. Did you appear to have enough rudder authority to overcome the asymmetric thrust situation from the single engine? Your engines are close enough to the center line of the plane (as opposed to way out on the wings of a normal plane) that you may be able to get away with single engine operation. If so, run it on one engine till it dies, and then the other? Or r they on same battery pack? Bill
I love your videos of R.C planes. I don't have one but I'm dying to get one. Whats the name of that white glider looking plane and where did you get it, I think I might buy one of those.
niiiiiiiiiiice. thats ridiculously cool. btw, whatever happened to Kieth? i know you guys moved so Scott does his videos without you guys but what about him?
I am new to Electric RC as i have always done nitro, i bought myself a new Lipo battery and i see its charged out of the box. What should i do? do i charge it or should i run it how it is?
OMG you really went back to a DX6?? If the transition to the Jr 9-chnl thingy was too harsh, try a DX7. I upgraded from DX6 to DX7 a few months ago, and it was a pretty easy transition. And now I don't have to use reversing Y cables on dual elevator servo planes, or other such primitive limitations. And the LCD display is better. And I can soften nosewheel steering response with the dual-rate+expo rudder channel.
What? Where are the plans for this plane? I went to the website and there's only four planes listed there and this is not one of them. Please respond with a link if there is one. Thanks.
@TheLoneH00t true true like the new ipod nano its camra is really small but if that camras a pinhole how much do those camras cost nd were cn u buy them plz reply
C'mon Dave. There's "One more Flight", and then there's" Not gonna happen" LOL! I've actually run a 3s1000mah down to 3.28 before. oops. Love the new field/pond!! -Brownish
Veeery cool video, Dave and Val!! I absolutely have to get one of these in addition to my Twinstar on floats. And I love the new flying field and pond. The pond I am flying at is not that good. It's bigger but there is no grass i could land on in an emergancy and in summer there are lots of boats on the water which is qiute suboptimal.
plastic from an old dvd case the part that holds the cover paper to the outside of the case ...ya cut to fit bottom of spontoons makes it great for grass and better in water
Ha! You caught that! "Jarvis" is an inside joke for my friends that still watch. Jarvis was a grounds keeper at our school who would fix stuff by totally overbuilding something and putting huge bolts through it. Jarvis-jobs work great, they just look ridiculous!
I use the DX6. I don't like the DX6i and DX7 because of the "Model Match" scam Horizon is pulling. I don't have 20 minutes to change out and rebind my receivers with each flight, and no, I'm not going to buy a receiver for each plane. And yes, I do have some videos filmed now of it doing more 3D flying around the yard that will be up after February. I was thinking of the same thing, getting some small wheels for the street that would not effect it on water or grass. Very good.
wierd!! It seems so odd watching your videos and seeing "weather". Now that you have snow as an element, maybe you can make an R/C Inner Tube or snow man.....Didn't Frosty fly one the put his hat on his head? Maybe that is where the Battery could be store.....
first of all dave, the DX7 (my DX7) is the best radio (better than the DX6i :P), and second of all, can you record a video of 3D flying with this thing? and last, can i install some lightweight sponge wheels in order to taket it off asphalt?
While it was kinda funny when you goofing around and crashing planes, I much prefer the serious vids. Those were nice landings. Less dramatic than a crash, but it actually takes a bit of skill!
@thmanify Yeah i watched all your videos too and bought the Dauphin heli just sat waiting for battery to charge up now. Took Daves advice and ordered a set off Ebay that has 2sets of blades, a battery and Metal hub set up grade incase i break it.
I wonder what park in Portland they are in. If I had to venture a guess I would say that they are inthe park by the golden statue. I don't remember the name of it.
Yeah, I'm gonna stick with the DX6. For me its about speed and simplicity. JR9 takes months to learn and the DX6i and DX7 has the "Model Match" racket so you can't use receivers for other planes without rebinding (scam to get you to buy more RXs and leave Horizon alone). Out of all I tried I like (hate the least) the DX6!
This whole channel is like an amiable lecturer and team fronting a practical, immediate effects based aerodynamics/aircraft design course..! Thanks man.
Nice one Dave. Looks like you and Val are really enjoying all that space
You still got it! Great vid! Val's little expressions are so integral! Sweet!
You did a nice job on the hydro. Great idea, a plane that looks like a boat, and is comfortable on land, water, and in the air. Well thought out, good design.
Hey Bill,
Yeah, the rudder works fine, just takes some a couple flights to get use to. I may wire the 2 motors to the yaw/rudder if I can figure that out.
you have a very supporting wife who even helps you with the filming... nice!
Dave, if your TX has the capability, mix in some down pitch as throttle is increased. That will take care to the unwanted pitch up.
really nice model! haven't seen any builds with the stubby wing lengths that can actually leave ground effect. really good. I like your word mashup, about the spontoons !

Yes, I do that on the water and ground too. It does work as break.

Fun series of videos guys and best of luck in your new home!

Keep it up Dave we enjoy watching.
Thanks
awesome vid!!!!! im impressed of your comeback!!!!! and I cant wait longer for the snow vid!!!! gj
i sure miss these
LOL,... nice Idea! Looks fascinating! And thanks for all the infos you told us! Thumps up for your work!
I like the bigger boat. Are you going to put out PDF plans?
Hey Dave love your vids just wanted to say a neat mod i did on my hydroplane was a big flat piece of foam on the bottom just behind the pontoons to create a kind of thrust vectoring worked great on my plane gave it more speed and elevator controls. Very neat! I loved the ending with the one motor landing!

Hey! Thats approximately spitting distance from where I live!
I was trying to figure out why it looked so familiar...
i watched ur videos and i bought a wild hawk and im waiting for it to come now.
I will posta video when i get it.
Oh yeah, Hawk Sky is very good! I've flown and filmed a few videos of that one that turned out very good. I'd get one while you can.
you are a true engineer, should go work for Lockheed skunk works or Boeing phantom works
Oh very nice! The WH is very good, we like ours.
Xamparia!! its 3.5V or a little bit less and then you get have this sudden drop down in voltage thus in power. But in Dave's case it could be the cut-off mode these ESC's have!

Bill
may i compliment you on your BEAUTIFUL landing?
Yep, all the time. There is a shot of that in this video.
but if you would have defragmented the micronats, then the circumference of the cordox would have been incredibly incredible, right?
I love your videos of R.C planes. I don't have one but I'm dying to get one. Whats the name of that white glider looking plane and where did you get it, I think I might buy one of those.
Love your videos! Always need to see it entirely!
But i would like to know wich kind of camera did you use to make it...
thank you so much for this information
an how do you build
it
awsome video and good to see u guys back making videos. you guys should try making UAV. Good luck.
Nice one Dave! Really enjoy watching the videos mate:)
@TheeAirworks
i agree. and what are you guys saying at the end of the vid?
Ya know that is a very good idea. I'm doing this on my twin motor HAWK WILD and will try it on the Hydro too. Thanks.
Awesome design, I really like this version, nice video, it's missing Keith in the background giving criticism, lol
niiiiiiiiiiice.
thats ridiculously cool.
btw, whatever happened to Kieth? i know you guys moved so Scott does his videos without you guys but what about him?
I am new to Electric RC as i have always done nitro, i bought myself a new Lipo battery and i see its charged out of the box. What should i do? do i charge it or should i run it how it is?
Did you remove the video where your testing it in the yard and the props fly off?
that very cool, its interesting how the flight characteristics change when you rip off the wings, overall, nice video,
I used to live right by there! I love that park!
so do you guys make your own rc planes?
OMG you really went back to a DX6?? If the transition to the Jr 9-chnl thingy was too harsh, try a DX7. I upgraded from DX6 to DX7 a few months ago, and it was a pretty easy transition. Dude, I can barrely see the camera, that thing must be SMALLER THAN HELL!
I want one.
Wow cool! Would love to see it fly on 1 motor!
I'm a big fan of your guys vids, and I bought some PDF planes from your sites, and they rock. :D. But I wish you guys made more vids often:D!
Really Cool! I'm planing to make like that one but smaller with 1 motor.
Hi Dave, do you work for AT&T? Saw your jacket. I worked for AT&T Bell Labs for 11 years.
which is best, tri prop or just regular prop. What pitch works best in most units like the. Thanks.
@TheLoneH00t true true like the new ipod nano its camra is really small but if that camras a pinhole how much do those camras cost nd were cn u buy them
plz reply
C'mon Dave.
There's "One more Flight", and then there's" Not gonna happen" LOL!
I've actually run a 3s1000mah down to 3.28 before. oops.
Love the new field/pond!!
-Brownish
Love it Dave! Nice job! Now I have to wait a full week for another vid! lol
I like it! It looks a bit like an F1 race boat.
nice show
What about shelters and earthships?
Enlarge surface for strawberry cultivation.
Yours sincerely,
Will you build me one? You are the man!
Nice Vid!
doesnt look like you had recent snow though
That 'boat" flies better than some of the planes you've reviewed ;-)
do you recomend cutting off the wings???thx
plastic from an old dvd case the part that holds the cover paper to the outside of the case ...ya cut to fit bottom of spontoons makes it great for grass and better in water
@GreenAce92 sigh.... yes I know, but this is not a Yak/Cessna/F-16/etc. The wing area in front of the CG causes it.
Ha! You caught that! "Jarvis" is an inside joke for my friends that still watch. Jarvis was a grounds keeper at our school who would fix stuff by totally overbuilding something and putting huge bolts through it. Jarvis-jobs work great, they just look ridiculous!
Do u make any i could buy? I thonk theyre awesome!!!
awesome guys love the new rcpowers

Hey, can you do more longer videos like this, like you used to?
What motor and propellers are those?
really nice ! slow fly! i think i'm gonna buy one! greets from poland!!!!!! good work
Wow, that was fast dude.
Beautiful, just nice bro! Where can I get one?
moving to oregon.! or wereever they moved
you guys should try and make a 4 engined cargo plane. thatd be cool
I feel like getting this boat-plane today. I wish I could:( Really nice...
wierd!! It seems so odd watching your videos and seeing "weather".

Yeah I know, we are working on them. Time is the issue.
Cool! Hope its a good one!
Nice video again, keep up the good work

@atvmaster281 i believe new batterys(li po) are stored at about 70% to 80% capacity.
charge it!
I wonder what park in Portland they are in. If I had to venture a guess I would say that they are inthe park by the golden statue. I don't remember the name of it.
were do you ouchas ur depron?
Yeah, those where Scotts. I just use the DX6.
Ha! I could tell you stories for days about that one.
that was a brillient landing =D
Ok, thanks! I'll remember for next time.
nice video i did like how it skimmed the water
