    www.mesaboogie....
This demo is a great example of the usefulness of the Boogie Five-Band Graphic EQ in BOTH Clean and Overdrive applications. The Baritone guitar delivers an extended low frequency range that the Boogie EQ fills in while the Mid scoop on the 750hz band and the Treble boost on the 6600hz slider accentuates clean sparkle and shimmer with amazing detail.
With overdrive and gain sounds, the Boogie EQ adds punch and grind, with the 2200hz slider being very useful for dialing in extra snarl and cut. The Boogie 'Classic V' shape is a well-known technique to achieving many of the worlds iconic recorded high gain sounds, both vintage and modern. Adding the Boogie Five-Band Graphic EQ to your FX Loop or amplifier front end provides an extensive range of tone-shaping possibilities beyond your amps built-in tones.
Signal Chain: Played through the Bridge & Neck Humbucking pickups of a MJ Guitars Roadster Baritone guitar into Channel 1 Clean and Channel 2 Drive of a Lone Star 100W Head and 2x12 Rectifier Cabinet. The Five Band Graphic EQ is patched into the FX Loop of the Lone Star. Recorded with a Heil PR30 and a Sennheiser 906.

I have 2 sixty-watt IIc+s, one with GEQ and one without it. I got the one without GEQ first. To be honest, I didn’t like the tone until I got the Five Band pedal. No matter how I set it, the tone was hollow and small, like a transistor radio. I got the EQ pedal, and it obviously sounded a LOT better. When I got the amp with GEQ, I was shocked at the volume difference. It turns out I was running both the Input and Output Levels too low. I run both levels on the pedal at around 75-80% now, and it sounds REALLY close to the onboard GEQ.

I wanted to hear it more what this baby can take, if it can withstand the abuse on a full bass and treble setting with the mids scooped. If it really be use for a metal style of settings. Pls do some another demo that's more like a thrash or nwbhm style of sound

I think it would be great to have a remote switch, for when it is used on top of an amp for fx loop for a post boost.

I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to add bottom end to my lonestar.

Awesome, +Richard Waterman! Thanks. :D This is an orignal song played by our good friend Jude Gold. Glad you dig, thanks for watching and let us know if you have any questions!

Wow, I was floored by the riff at 40sec's. this dude can play. I also like the settings, mostly boosting frequencies rather than cutting. Will this eq work with a single rec parallel effects loop. I was considering modifying it to a series, yet really don't use the loop any way yet.

Hey Scott Mac - Thanks for the kind words. This Boogie Graphic works especially well in an FX Loop. Doing so recreates the most similar signal path to the amp actually having a graphic EQ built in, like on Mark series amps. It works in the front end as well but significant tone-shaping is available when used in the FX LOOP.

MESA/Boogie Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about the use in a parallel fx instead of series as it's blended with original signal I quess. I had a mark4 and used the eq a lot. It seems to give the tone an extra broad tone/frequency responce, and tight solid bass. Might go well with my single rec.

Scott Mac - A parallel loop will work almost as well as a Series loop in this case with the mix control turned all the way up. That said, you could experiment with lower mix settings and possibly achieve cool results, as well as having other FX in the loop and setting the Mix for them in addition to EQ. IN any case, the EQ should be at the end of the chain in the loop. A series loop is not required for the Five-Band Graphic to work well. Great question. Thanks!

Scott Mac I completely, entirely agree, One hundred and Ten percent. This guy had a plan of attack and it's just mind blowing how he laid it out. once :40 seconds hit, it was like being hit with a brick in the face. I actually said out loud, like a little teenager, "DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

how is this eq hooked up is it in the effects loop my Lonestar effects loop seems to suck the tone out leaving loss of highs and Transparency

Hi kool breeze - In this video, the EQ is in the FX Loop. When patching FX into the loop, it's important to realize all the points where you can lose signal strength, or tone. First, you have to make sure that the signal from the SEND, will stay at the same level (Unity Gain) when it gets back to the RETURN. In other words, when bypass the pedal(s) and the signal goes up, it likely means the pedal is a cause of lack of signal somewhere, and probably affecting tone. Second, if you run long cables from a pedal board to the loop, this will often cause a noticeable loss of high end and general clarity/brilliance. You can use buffers to avoid this loss if you are committed to using long cables for your rig, or find out other ways to make it work (pedals at amp controlled by other switching methods, etc). Finally, on the back of the Lone Star, you need to make sure that the Send Level on the back of the amp is set to the proper level so that when the loop is engaged, the signal amount stays the same. You can test this by switching the loop between on and bypass and finding the setting on the Send Level control where the volume is the same in both settings. Then, add your pedals and cables, one-at-a-time, and make sure that the signal/volume doesn't drop as a pedal is added and engaged. Hope this helps anbd let us know what you find out!

MESA/Boogie I was using a tc electronic g system in the effects loop and I was never happy with the fidelity of my tone
I now use boss pedals which are buffered in the loop I use the loop for my wet effects and now I am pleased with my tone
