I love this system, I’m a decent caster, this system is so efficient. Skagit casting is so much fun. On the other hand one overhand back cast and i can throw 60-70 ft. That’s rarely needed. Only issue i have is managing the running line so i don’t end up with a ball of line trying to shoot through my guides. I’ve stretched out the lazar line once I’ve fished a few times. I’m gonna try this system you are demonstrating. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!! Love the line system, best regards.
Someday we will collect and release running line on a reel somewhat similar to an open faced spinning reel... Large face maybe, while turned diagonal, and elliptical maybe? Elliptical to create a stripping like action in the circumstance that someone would rather reel than strip. Diagonal to maintain rod to reel balance....Hmmm, what say you Ed?
I'm an organized person in real life, but once I'm out on the water, casting my single-hand Skagit, I just go willy-nilly, stripping the line and letting it do what it wants. I haven't ever had any issues with it getting in the way, or tangling. Have I just been lucky?
It's a really great video but it was still hard to see how you were holding / pinching the lines after the strips. Maybe you could show more up close views of the hands holding the lines. Thanks anyways and love your lines !
Largest loop in 4 fingers, next in 3 aso. If you need to hold a lot of line for very long casts, you just start with 5 intakes aso. When casting you release the loops one finger at a time, as the line is pulled out. Very rare that it tangles up, unless the line has a lot of memory.
Largest loops in 4 fingers, then three aso. That way you release the oposite way, and rarelly catch the larger loops. Never seen anybody do this irl, but I learned everything from books and practice. Helps a lot when you stand in grass.
Thanks for the tip! I’ve been fly fishing for forty years and there’s always something new to learn.
Nothing like good line management, makes things some much easier

Ed Ward reminds me of a guy on the whitetail side of the fence named Dan Infalt.

This is an interesting concept Harvey:)

You probably waste a bit of energy/length reduction, by having to pull more line free of the surface.
What kind of running lne are you using? It looks thick like coated line, but it also looks stiff like mono. I wondered if it was the OPST lazer line?
Peter Olson yes it is the lazar, of course :)

It’s hurting my head 😂
