@@radiantcomma4945 I've got a first gen awd rav4 with 220k miles on the odometer and you can do literally anything on the farm you need it to other than pull a trailer. BEAMs swapped it no forced induction yet though need to do some engine work. Got a 65-70 degree hill down by our pond and it is 0 problem for it to climb even with the old 3sge that was in it was swapped when I got it. Only downside to the awd is no way to switch to 2wd and the diffs are automatic electronic locking diffs. Never broken down once since I got it. I got it much cheaper than 7000 though I was amazed that I had gotten such a good deal on it for as clean as it is
What an absolutely lovely little off-roader. He really built one heck of a vehicle out of a car I had never considered could look this cool. Homie really has a great eye for builds and it's so cool he had this vision to showcase this setup as an option. I wish I had known more about these before all the good ones disappeared!
TLDR; 98 Octane in Japan == ~93 Octane US Mainly for those who want to be informed (Like any US viewers who own an imported car from Japan), I wanted to point out that Japan octane ratings aren't the same as US. Papadakis mentioned that the engine was "rated for their premium fuel, which is 98, and in California here we only have 91" 98 in Japan is roughly 93 here. So his point still stands, in that he can't get high enough octane, but it's not as drastic as what it seems like. It's more like he needs 93 but highest Cali has is 91. For more info you can look up RON rating (Japan) vs AKI rating (US)
It surprises me not many companies have done aftermarket suspension kits for these. They're everywhere in Australia. Great little vehicles. Thanks for sharing lads 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Hell yeah. My old parts manager did this swap and lowered it, and put 20x10s on his. Instead of a hood scoop, he shimmed the rear of the hood to raise it about 2" to try to solve the heat issue. That thing ripped. He also has a 1j(I think) swapped IS300/Altezza.
The RAV-4 5S-FE is a common block used for the 3S-GE head. It's a decently strong block with a good oil system 🤘 edit: the JDM only RAV-4 had a 4th gen 3S-GE engine rated for 170hp, they're decently quick for a light SUV.
They actually got the Gen 4 3SGE 177-180h.p. I've got a 96' four door manual one, ex J.D.M car. Identical to the motor in my 96' SW20 MR2 N/A. The Rav ( with the 3SGE) is very quick..... The 3SFE motor is way better for every day use & soft off roading. Has better torque, the GE has no torque whatsoever, it's all high as r.p.m power.

The way he talked about how you jave to offroad it in the beginning because of no low range is perfectly said. I have the 4 door version of this and my road is dirt through a flood plain so it can get nasty, as long as you keep momentum and stick to a gear that has some torque while your locked in and ive never been stuck. Even with 2 feet of flowing water
Found Papadakis's channel during the pandemic but as life returned to normal the content (understandably) fell off. Finally glad to see more of this build!
The 1st Gen RAV4s are overlooked capable performance/rally cars. Most folks aren't that heavily informed about the RAV4s development. The RAV4 is actually related to the Celica GT-Four and was designed in close relation to it, which is why the engine(3S-GTE) drops right in. Similar to the Lexus SC and Supra MKIV. The GT-Four drivetrain and tranny(E-154) will also drop right in to the RAV4..and I'm curious if Papadakis will go with that swap in the future, that tranny is beefy. Since the Celica GT-Four has a rally legacy and that technology behind it, the RAV4 was the brother to the WRC Celica, but was just neglected and throttled back for production and was never raced. The US RAV4s actually came with a 3S-GE engine, which is the NA version of the 3S-GTE. While they stopped making the the Celica GT-Four, the evolution and continuation of that cars lineage is the AWD Turbo Caldina, which is where Papadakis pulled the 5th Gen 3S-GTE engine from. The US never saw the Caldina, and most people don't even know what it looks like or what the hell it is. Look forward to seeing more of this build.
They came in the US with the 3S-FE (economy head low compression motor) engine not the (3S-GE performance head high compression). Only the Type G has the 3S-GE which didn’t get sold in the US. I have one that’s imported and the 50bhp difference is very noticeable
I always liked the design of the older rav 4. It would be nice to have one like this with no rust, rebuilt motor drive train. Love the fog lights. I'm planning to get a pair of them for my Honda civic 07'
I had a 96 rav4 5 speed 5 door, but mine had the Torsen LSD in the rear (option for the 1st two years). Even with the super anemic 3S-FE it was SO good in the sand. Super light, big tires, and a decent amount of suspension travel. I love this 2-door project. So rad. The gearing was terrible though. Not short enough 1st, too tall 2nd. I took it places a RAV4 shouldn't have gone (fins n' things) but it hated it.
You are right, in Russia n eastern part of Europe they do many modifications like keyless entry, push button start, as u mentioned put giant dirt road tires. Additionally u can swap front passenger seats with recaro from bmw 3 e 36
It's like a lil' 'Yota Samurai! Like a Miata for slow car fast, it's so offroader fast. Immediately went searching for one with no success. Super cool little dune machine!
Paragliding is actually the safest form of flight because if your canopy isn't right, you simply won't get air born. The chance of a parachute failing once already open is slim to none and at the height paraglider usually fly, an emergency parachute won't have enough time to open anyway.
Ive just got a little auto 99 version. , even stock standard its pretty fun and so cool how they have put so much thought into the design of something so small.

I'd like to find out where Mr Papadakis sourced his front strut setup from, as That's all that's holding me back from going fast on rough terrain. And while off road the stick RAV is plenty fast. I'd love that Turbo, but a engine swap is practically impossible for me as it's fairly illegally without a illegally smog, & electric sensor modifications. But I already can drive FAR faster than I safely can drive I was out for 2 weeks at the King of Hammers, and easily ,easily kept up and did almost everything Raptors,Jeeps etc where doing on all but the most extra.e power related scenarios...The RAV just trips people out. These are all over the place in Vancouver, BC. People need a truck small enough to drive around town but you can take it up a logging road no problem and go camping.
That's correct, only Japan had the Beams engine; the 98-00 RAVs had VVTi before the Gen 2s came out. The engine was a dog. When I had to climb grades, definitely needed to use the ECT button.
Rav4 has been an awesome machine since day one. Yall just like to over look certain vehicles. Even modern ones don't mess around when it comes to offroading.
