Take time pulling the tri99er & make sure you really want it, and, you've got deep enough reserves to run it.
I waited 30 years before pulling the trigger on a Ferrari.
But, I really wanted it, & I'd got to the point where I accepted & was ready for the hits.
And, if you really want it, & you can afford to maintain it properly, and drive it, you'll never regret it
But, don't ever try to justify or make sense of it economically as a means of getting from A to B.
I weighed up a GranTurismo v LC500 and I just wasn't brave enough...so LC500 it was...no regrets.
When you have a sorted exemplar of Granturismo S and it is not your daily but just fun and weekend car then its pretty convenient with no big bills expected. Many people think its unreliable junk, but its not compare to some german cars with this emotion level. Iwould say its no brainer. I like LC500 for everything it is, but the unability to downshift upfront of a hairpin in 60kph to first gear really annoyed me. (You have to be bellow 30kph with LC500 to do so, mean you dont downshift to 1st with LC500 at all and then there is just not enough torque on the wheels on 2nd gear to blast out of the tight corner.....not knowing this I would live with it... but having Granturismo S and know how big fun this sequence is: 2nd wrau 1st uaaaa Bang 2nd uaaa) but going across continent I would pick LC500 (although the passengers in back row would see it different 😊)
At the £50,000 mark I would go for the Lexus Lc 500, great value, going with the type of care Lexus provide even if the car is bought from a private seller makes it worth it, I love the idea that I can buy it and have peace of mind. Its a little bit wild with some mild and sensible thrown in..

Before the boys start; here are my choices. I love my 2+2 GTs so that's what I'm looking for.
Sub-£10k: 08 BMW 650i (Because that's what I own). Not the most sensible choice as they do need lots of TLC to be reliable, but you can't go wrong with a subtle but unmistakable V8 purr or a 2nd Gen 640d as the sensible choice. My other option is an Audi TTS or a 2nd Gen TT with the V6. I've developed a thing for the E46 330ci Clubsport.
£10-£20k: Porsche 996 Carrera 4, because why say no to the chance of having a 911, or Jaguar XK, I want to say a mint, low mileage 4.2 but would probably end up with a XKR. Slightly silly option: either a Honda Integra Type-R or Mitsubishi 3000GT/GTO
£20-£50k: Easy: Lexus LC500 V8, in red with the tan interior, because that is absolutely gorgeous and would be a dream car for me. The not sensible option would be a V12 DB7, because that is aging beautifully.

I've had a GTO that featured on James' channel that was great but it was off the road allllll the time and parts are very hard to get these days so a minor thing can keep the car off the road for a month. Desperately want a DC5 integra, I have had the EP3 civic type R and it was one of the most fun cars I've owned I was always smiling, extremely reliable and strong engine too the K20 and K20a, the only issue with them now is rust even more than it was before because they all have moon miles now because they are the best cheap drivers car and they have had rust issues for over 10 years now so most of them are turning to dust, happened to my civic back in 2019. If you can get a lower mileage clean one despite most cars tanking in value I think you could use it and still make a killing because they are getting really low in numbers now.

The V8 in the LS400 is an automotive masterpiece. The early ‘thick rod’ engines are used by drift cars and hot rods all around the world. They’ve got 6 bolt mains and the aluminium blocks are light. Whilst low power in standard n/a format, they are good for up to 1000bhp. I’ve just bought one to go in my 89 Hilux 😊. Awesome format and great fun to watch keep it coming!

10k is easy as I often wonder cheap car would I buy: Jag XKR (early models), XJ '98 V12, Cayenne Turbo 2nd generation.
20 k a little harder: an M car (M4) as they give the sports-car feel for little money. Or, I would try something I know very little about to experience something new, like an Alpina.
Then 50k is hardest as I don't think there is a car I would buy at this cost: Ariel Atom. Maybe an old 911. Lotus Evora.
If there was no limit, I would buy again an FF, the best example available. I have one and I don't know a car I would swap it for. And if another car, a Jensen Interceptor. Pure sex on wheels.

Hi Ben I had a friend that had a new rs6 estate that had a fuel starvation problem while on the autobahn, the engine let go and the bill came back at over 70 k .thank fudge he had taken out extended warranty

That is my old Kia Stinger in the video. I enjoyed that car so much, i put on a quicksilver exhaust system which wasn’t too loud but really allowed the v6 to sing under throttle, upgraded the air intakes and had a tune to 500whp it was fun. Of course i reset it back to standard when i sold it, except the exhaust system, that’s probsbly still on the car.
Vauxhall VXR8 is a car worth thinking about.

Have no idea if the particular examples I'm looking at are any good, but here goes anyways. Prices are in CAD.
17k: Safe choice would be a Volvo S60 R. Should be decently reliable, not too slow, and they look great. Pretty unique cars too. They come quite a bit under budget, so there is extra money for repairs.
Risky choice is a 2007 XJR, pretty self explanatory.
34k: Safe choice is pretty clearly a Corvette, but I'm really torn between the C5 Z06 and the regular C6. Tough choice, but C6 probably makes more sense.
Risky choice is another Jag, an early second gen XJR that comes a bit under budget. Would be really tempted by a Pontiac GTO as well.
86k: First route would be the nicest 911 or Cayman I can find, would be an early 2010's Carrera or a late 2010's Cayman S/GTS
So many options on the risky side, I haven't looked too much at that price bracket. A newer Vantage would be a leading option for sure.

Loving these videos and your channel! I'm on the hunt always for similar cars to you so it's so relatable particularly at the moment. I have a C6 corvette that I have just found out I can fit in a UK garage after clearing it so now am on the hunt for a £15k-25k semi silly car to go with it that has 4 seats (for occasional use) that I can daily. I looked at the Granturismo and I am tempted by a 4.7 MC shift but I'm scared of it doing Italian things with the electrics 🤣 Some other shouts I'm looking at that are possible:
- It is possible to get a good M2 easily for £23k now which is crazy value, particularly when you consider that a 2017 model is just finishing it's boosted tax period so from this year on will be £180 a year to tax which is a bargain, same with the 2018 ones next year ect. People will also say M4 and E92 M3 but the M4 insurance is at least double what an M2 is currently and an e92 is cheaper to insure but is max tax bracket £700 odd which cancels it out, M2 pick of the bunch, N55 a reliable engine too!!
-There aren't any currently up for sale really but for low to mid £20k's it's possible to get an early Evora 2+2
-I know I have the American bias because I already have a corvette but OMG American cars are a steal in the UK if you can get used to LHD. Varying reliability on these of course but you can get a dodge challenger easily under £20k and in some cases even the V8, a Camaro SS is well in budget too as is the older 5.0 V8 mustang.
-C63 Coupe can be had well under £20k now, they are ruinous to run even when they work but worth a mention.
- RS6 V10 can be had for £20k now if you're brave 😅😅
- Lots and lots of F types under £20k now, top end of budget high but not too high miles V6 s would be my shout they were much mroe reliable than the V8 I think.
Anyway, open to hearing shouts from anyone just a few I've come across 😊
£10k 1978 Bentley T series, £20k 1972 Dodge Charger, £50k 1967 Buick Riviera, all will get around the stupid ULEZ and all will still be worth what you paid for them in a years time, not to mention that spare parts are still available for most of these old American cars and they will be not only interesting to drive but will certainly turn heads!

A mercedes cls shouting brake, you could even get the amg version i reckon. I don't know how much they are in England but in the EU you could get an amg for under 40k.

@@dadcars Or, you can have a 2006 volvo V70R. I've got the volvo and its really nice, doesn't drive as good as my 325 station wagon. But its more comfy and a real sleeper. And buy the facelift, has a better automatic box 6 speed, and looks a bit more modern. Altough i am already looking for rhe next fam. Car, and that could well be a merc cls shooting break, if the mrs likes it.

For £10k I would strongly consider a decent Ford Focus ST.
For £20k I would think about a decent Subaru Wrx Sti or a Tesla Model S.
For the price of almost £50k there are driver oriented Dad Cars that are generally speaking worth the money. For me though there isn't one that I really really want (enough for the money).
You can’t compare a Kia Stinger to the Maserati Grand Turismo. That’s not apples to apples… 🤷♀️

BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe (£50k). It beats most Ferrari from 0-62 mph (3.2 sec).

The RS6 is defo the sensible dad car lol. At one point the Stinger was a possible on my shortlist for next car but ever since you did the Alfa Guilia QV a fellow commented on your channel told me they have a manual version in Switzerland.. the idea of a transmission swap has stuck in my head 😅 maybe when the Focus has had its time to shine I’ll consider getting a super saloon as the next dad car.

Need a massive brace pill for the Bentley Ben😂 Lexus looks like a good option, looks more money than it is. Shocked at the price of the Maser, possibly ruinous though. GT86 amazing value, good to drive, no room in back. Trouble with that car is it's replacement is sooo much better, you'd constantly wish you bought that instead. Kia Stinger is a very good option, rare, looks more money than they are, reliable, all the toys included .

10k Fiat Coupe LE or Plus, low mileage. 20k bmw e46 m3 50k Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. First two you won’t lose money on. Owned the Fiat and made money on it. BMW I’ve just purchased. Shouldn’t lose except for maintenance costs. Alfa? I’m guessing the depreciation curve is bottoming out at £50k won’t be so steep

The only sensible choice is the LS470. Otherwise, your main priority (4 children in car seats) will not work, with the possible exception of the Stinger.

I can not really agree with Jays choices. He takes the most boring alternative. Bentley is about the special feeling of all the luxury goods. Here I‘s go for a VW Pheaton or an Audi A8. The Pheaton os essentially the same plattform as the Bentley and with a V8 or a 3.2 VR6 they are not soooo far off the Bentley but a fraction of the price and what you saved on the purchase remains for the repairs that will happen anyway. Lexus ist a tad to exotic yet even more boring than the VW, R36 is another class.
Maserati - the Toyota was so far off, I was about to turn off, the Stinger is a lot closer. From an italian V8 to a japanese 4-cylinder of one of the most boring car manufacturers ever. I‘d recommend a Jag or an older E92 335i or even a Corvette C5/C6.
For the Ferrari… Benz is boring and can not compete with the feeling of the Ferrari. M850i if you manage to find a cheap used one comes a lot closer. Yet I‘d go for a DB9.2 or Virage or for a good condition Maserati Gran Turismo and save the rest for repairs. Audi 1st gen R8 V10

Wouldn't say a LS460 is unaffordable to run lol, yes fuel consumption would be 25mpg on average but there would be next to no depreciation vs running a £15k 320d which would drop like a stone.
