Yeah, the spring is there to keep it under tension until the oil pressure gets up. It compressed over time. I used a genuine spring & washer and it cost £18 and took 30mins. It’s easier if you take the water bottle out (on my e46 anyway)
@@Alberto.en.Tenerife you have to figure out the source of the tick, it could be not from your timing chain components. If you think it's near the timing chain area, it could be insufficient oil pressure, worn chain guides or stretched chain.

@@norbertrabi8408 it could be the tensioner and/or the type of oil you use. It should go away once oil pressure builds up.

My e46 2.5 had been doing this intermittently for about 10k. Just done the spring. Much peace of mind
