Sometimes when it rains , it pours. I am glad you were able to get the two of them fixed and your BMW. Congratulations on 27 K subscribers. Great content. Enjoy your day/ evening.
yo yo BMW 325i 2003 with the 5 speed. dual vanos 2,8l..... holed up in the bush a hour and a half south of Winnipeg.. I think I might do this.... seems like a small doable thing that can prevent massive repair bills..
First time seeing your channel, this squeak sounds exactly what i have going on and it has been quite elusive trying to pin point where it was coming from. Thanks so much, will be changing my spring out this week!
@@joma7119 I've been busy with life and haven't got to it yet, gonna look for the part today but I'll for sure let you know if it makes it any better when I get it installed
@@joma7119 so I just got the spring installed, it definitely helped with my idle and quietened the squeaking sound. I still have just a little squeak, but I think it's from a pulley/belt, as I haven't changed either on my m54. Extra info, 2003 325xi 164k miles on both original trans and motor. Lemme know if there is anything else I can help with and sorry it took so long. The spring just showed up in the mail today, ordered it from FCP Euro so it took a lil over a week to arrive.
Well done, Jake. Glad the timing chain is properly tensioned now. Next, what is with the noisy belts? If it were simply cold, this entire city would be full of screaming belts from November to May! Even at -22 Fahrenheit the belts on my Volvo 240 are quiet. Same with every car. Either the belts are loose or the belts are burned.
My 2004 325xi has 170k miles and I've just replaced the rear shocks and coil springs, and front struts, tie rods, control arms/bushings, the brake pads and rotors all around I have new calipers I still need to put on. Last thing I notice is a pulley is whining and the diffs need the gear oil replaced
Saturday morning for me here in Georgia. And the sun is not up yet but it's very windy.. always nice to wake up to one of your vids.. Let me get a cup of coffee first . LoL
It sounds like you have a similar “intermittent knock” as I have with my e46 325ci, cold it’s worse, but when warm it sounds similar to yours, is that just normal with these motors?
Does the BMW have a “clear flood mode” where you can crank the engine without starting it? Allows you to build oil pressure before you start up. I use that on my Jeep, no more clattering lifters.
On the older cars if you floored it that would cut off the injectors. I don't know how long that feature carried over. Probably got removed when they went to drive by wire.
Gummy bears, who cares? I just had a cup of hot chocolate and some cookies at about 10 pm, and I have diabetes. Lol That looks like the south end of town. I grew up in Wichita, sort of. I'm in Vegas now. What model BMW is that anyway? At least BMW did that right to make that tensioner accessible.
if u stop running E85, u wound have any issues....... that's fuel is actually worse for ur engine then regular 87/89/93.... youigbt as well just run corn syrup as fuel if u like lots of ethanol issues
These fixes are always welcomed. Easy and smooth.

Up until now, I had only heard about the elusive easy BMW repair.
BMW? Something easy? Who woulda thought? BTW, love the channel.
Wait till you see their oil filters
I love this channel, keep the good content coming Jake, love it 🙂
Dude, the strut tower brace with your logo is LEGIT!
Loving the Default German Torque Spec, Great video as ever
Thanks Jake for sharing another fun how to video!!! ,👍👍
That is the first piece of good design engineering from BMW. Hell freezeth.
I got the exact same noise, was suspecting the chain tensionner.
Now I'm sure, and its easy to do thats perfect
Thank you !
Windy day in Winnipeg. Blowing snow visibility was down to 10 feet. So no whining out of you.

Hey let me know if this fixes your issue, I have the same sound and I replaced the pulley and the tension since I thought it came from there

Imagine, a windy day in Kansas. Auntie Em, Auntie Em,! It’s a twister! Keep up the great videos.

Thanks so much for leaving in the shot where your camera fell over right before you started the engine. I LOL'ed.
Another example, BMW sometimes is not that hard to fix if you know the tricks or 'German way of thinking'. Thanks for the great video.
Crazy sense of humor.
Guten tight made me giggle, thanks for the videos Jake!
Nice didn't know there was an overhaul kit, will see if I can get one 👍
Great review… Great cars… Thanks. 👀🇬🇧👍
good video bro i was gonna ask wouldn’t yo wanna put oil in that tensioner before you put it back ?
Question - So I don't need to replace the entire timing chain tensioner assembly? I can just swap out the spring? & crush washer?
Great content bro!!
i couldn't do it , my radiator hoses were in the way and wouldn't let my ratchet move back and forth at all.. any tips?

Great vid! Thank you 🙏🏼
Interesting, as always.
My concern is that you reinstalled the new spring facing the wrong direction. Another excellent episode.
are you serious ?? that spring has a orientation ?
Jakim kluczem to odkręciłeś (rozmiar) i jakim momentem obrotowym dokreciłeś? Nie znam Twojego języka.
First gen honda insight is the best car ever
I mean, I have strange noises on startup, but it's mostly groaning from being woken up so early by the kids... 🤣
Better buy new INA part with smaller hole in it. Somehow this smaller hole keep pressure better.

Just remove your fuel pump relay and crank the motor
know what is more common than a BMW with an issue. Kansas with a windy day. lol
If you change this and the problem still consist ? The next step will be to change the chain ?? I need a answers lol
Jake you need an oil change for the BMW. 👨🔧
Agreed. The funny part is I'm only halfway through the recommended interval. And people wonder why these engines junk up so much...
Did someone replace tensioner like that on M57 diesel engine?
I'm amused. Most German cars I've worked on require silly amounts of hours to change a strut tower. Need an engine tensioner? 15 min. Priorities.
That's funny, 20 minutes on my 05 330ci for my front strut towers
I was comment #2! One of these days I'll make comment #1 and my life will be complete.
How many miles did you have? Cheers ☺
I wish my 2.0t vw was that easy
Bruh I was about to tear my timing cover off lmaoo
32mm socket . . . . now *there's* a size I almost certainly don't have. . . . or do I? I almost want to look.
It's one of the pretty often used hub nut sizes in Europe along with 36mm.
@@philtowle4683 ah! my tools are mostly Subaru related, tho I no longer own one.
So Haribo gummy bears make BMWs idle smoother. Got it.
Good info! =)
What engine?
Gummy bears, who cares?

Only one issue?
success
$5 off Amazon for a new spring. I changed mine for the hell of it because I know the spring on my E38 was super short and worn out.
Its not very safe replacing that this way.
Didn't help with my V8 so I guess the guides are shot.
Brake cleaner NOT recommended for rust removal.... as you discovered. I swear by 3-in-1 oil / spray.
Thank you, Jake, for your video. I hate when people do their repairs on the ground and on the knees...c'mon guys, be a bit more professional!!!😆😂
Jake, I feel Jipped. I saw no German Virgins.
Part number?
that went too well..foreshadowing
Placebo effect? It’s just the gummy bears talking.
Now ls swap it
Jake with a hat? Wut?
You need to change your channel name to something garage. Otherwise UA-cam won't promote your channel within car searches.
Another cromulent job

A win in fixing the BMW? What a boring video.
