I have a WEN grinder like this. It's well balanced and very quiet. It serves my purpose of sharpening my wood chisels , knives the like. My only complaint is that the support pieces (in front of the wheel, doesn't rotate for different angles -

How are you feeling about the machine now, any updates! I can really only afford this 6in WEN or a Bauer and could use some input. Thanks!

I just got one. Piece of junk. I spent hours on just getting it kinda useable. Sadly most chinese 6 in grinders are no were near quality of any sorts. Not sure why wen is happy to put their name on it.

It’s probably one of things where either you get a good one or, a bad one. No problems with mine. I only use it for small tasks. Sorry to hear you got a bad one.

@@JDWorkshop-wn9tt could be. But the fact that something simple required so much time and work to make it functional and safe to use shows to me a systemic issue of no quality control. Yes, it was usable but dangerous. The vibration was terrible, the grinder would just vibrate itself right off the bench. Yes, I know it's supposed to be bolted down but that vibration is a sign that not all is well. One of the rests was bent incorrectly so could not use it. So I had to grind and file the mounting slit wider to fit. Then I spent a lot of time trying to find the least vibration position for the wheel. The right one I got it down to a acceptable vibration. Yes, it had a side to side wobble and was out of round. So after positioning it I had to dress the wheel into roundness. I could never get the wobble out of the left wheel. I got it to the least wobble and then dressed it into roundness. So now it vibrates but doesnt try to escape. One side cover didnt fit correctly so I had to grind material off so it would fit. Thankfully the gooseneck light works as that is why I bought it. I just found out it is made by the same co that makes grinders for harbor freight. Could have saved money there but thought with the namexwen on it it might be better. Nope, just a differant paint can. If I want better I have to go out and buy better wheels, more costs. Did I expect perfect ? No. But I expect usability without me spending hours learning about wheels. I only need this for light duty as I have a nice 8 in grinder that never needed anything done to it. So yea, its junk. And no, I had no interest in returning it because the possibilty of getting worse was a real possibility. I even called wen and havnt gotten a call back. So this also makes me question the company. So no wen products in my future. I will continue to look for an older grinder and just off load this one.

Sorry if I may have steered you into buying this. Mine has no vibration. It’s perfectly balanced. As for the company customer service, I have no idea. I never needed to call. I’m really happy with mine. Works great. I guess I got lucky. Thank you for the input on your experience. I was skeptical too with the low price but, like I said I have enjoyed a good experience with the one I have.

I also move mine from bench to bench. Wherever It’s needed at the time. I never bolt mine down. Runs like a precision machine. No vibration. I just leave it on it’s rubber mounts. No problems yet. I should do a follow up on this. Mine really has no vibration problems.

@@JDWorkshop-wn9tt well, then I'm seriously jealous of you. I also forgot that the rests are mounted to the thin sheetmetal shields so they will and do flex. Also they dont move in decent positions and are not big enough to do much. I will be making new and stronger rests just for use and safety. I'm a very big proponent of safety. I'm over 70 and I still have all my fingers !
