I have lived here for all of my 74 years. I am in shock still as is most of the metro area. This is our home. But no longer is it safe to attend a city event or stroll down Bourbon or Canal Street as I often did alone as a 10+ year old child in the 50s +60s. The "City That Care Forgot" no longer cares. 😔
I understand everyone keeps talking about the terrorist, going around the police car and driving down the sidewalk, but he then got back into the middle of Bourbon Street. If those bollards were up, he wouldn’t have been able to go three blocks down the street he may have been able to enter Burbon Street, but he wouldn’t have been able to drive three blocks down Bourbon Street.
How does the chief of police not know about the options for keeping not only the most famous and crowded street in the city safe but also one of the most crowded and famous streets in the nation? I don’t know if I would’ve admitted that if I were her.
The "bollard" situation was/is irresponsibly stupid. I've been to New York City enough times to notice how whenever there is sort of extra pedestrian traffic situation, whether it's a parade, rally, or even just holiday shopping, pretty much automatically out comes the barriers -- including very heavy concrete blocks and parked heavy trucks -- as protection against exactly the sort of thing that happened in New Orleans. Even where I live just outside Boston, big street fairs often get roads blocked off with fire engines and garbage trucks. It's not that big of a deal to protect against rampaging pickup trucks.
This is their fault. 14 people gone bc why? Bc they didn’t do what they should have done years ago. Not to mention they put out a statement saying they were down before NYE.
im curious on who is the video taker... the scene where the truck goes AROUND the cop car... its almost like they were video taping the white truck, specifically...hmmm..... sure there wasnt more people involved?.. if you watch the video.. it clearly is following the white truck.. before it turns down that fateful street and hurt and killed so many innocent people...
The idea you can fix the problem with barriers is insane
