    I laughed out loud when you said the thing about looking ill. When I was in the office and didn’t want to work I’d show up without makeup. Everyone would ask, Are you sick? You don’t look well. And I’d be like, you know, I don’t feel all that great, I think ill go home 😅
    That shade is your perfect match! I stopped buying foundation bc I couldn’t find a spot on match. Neutrals are too pink or grey and warms are too yellow.

    Watching Alexandra Anele’s foundation swatch video was what made me realize I had an olive undertone. Some of the foundations she pointed out as good matches are ones I had found worked the best for me (Revlon Buff and Tarte Amazonian Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory). The issue is they are too dark for me, so I can only use them lightly and blended out well. I have used the Tarte tinted moisturizer for years because I have had so many problems finding a foundation match. They are often too orange, pink, or yellow, and generally just overly saturated in color. I used to think I was cool-toned because of the redness in my face and some of the colors I tend to prefer (berries, mauves, taupes, and more green-leaning golds), but cool-toned foundations always look grey on me, so I have usually opted for yellow-leaning shades.
    For concealer, the Nars Soft Matte Concealer in Chantilly is a very close match, just a smidge darker, but I really only like it for spot concealing because of the consistency. Recently, I tried Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Concealer in Y1 since I had seen a few videos where Hannah Louise Poston mixed that and RN1, and Y1 is miraculously an exact match to my neck. I have since started using it by itself instead of foundation or mixed with the Tarte tinted moisturizer, and it works so well. The only issue is that I have a lot of redness in my face, which can show up a little shadowy, so I want to try a green color corrector. I have the 24 hour Prime Lab one by L’Oreal, but I find it too drying.
    I have always had issues with what people called “neutrals” because they often look too orange on me. Pinks also generally don’t look great. I have found that purple-toned colors tend to read more neutral on me than a lot of traditional “neutrals”. Even mauves can have a tendency to look orange, especially in lip liners or eyeshadows. My lips are actually a grey-leaning purple, and I have had a hard time finding a MLBB color. One of my favorites was Nars lipstick in Damage, but it was discontinued. I find that purple-toned lipsticks tend to be very saturated, dark, or both, which ends up being more of a statement because I’m so pale. I don’t mind that, but it can be frustrating when I just want something closer to my actual lip color. I also can’t do anything with a white base because it makes me look dead. I’ve been eyeing some Asian beauty brands for lip colors because I’ve noticed they often have those muted purple and mauve colors.
    I really enjoy your videos, and love the “Bye, witches~” sign off! The color season series, makeup like an old painting, and this video have been recent favorites. Thank you!

      Ah sounds like you’ve struggled a lot being so fair and olive! I think Asian beauty could be a good route too because my experience with Asian beauty brands is the pigments tend to be less saturated and soft. Thanks for watching my vids! Glad you’re liking them and thank you for the support 💓

      Smashbox has a VERY light olive foundation! (colour 1.05 in the Studio Skin, but I believe the new formula has the same colour numbers). Revlon Buff is a good winter match for me and Smashbox 1.05 is too light for me (I use it to mix with darker foundations).

      Blue concealer. You’ll thank me later. I’m ME/African/German/Spanish. Natural dark Auburn hair, light brown eyes, and nearly porcelain skin. I’m not cool tone or warm toned. I was 16 and all these women were trying to match my skin. A Nigerian woman approached and asked me which one of my parents was African, and which one was from Spain. I was in the South, USA in the 90’s. So I was so excited that she knew my ancestry! She took 2 foundations from Origins. The lightest shade of the RB and YO undertones. The blue would cancel the orange and the blue and yellow would become Green undertones. I don’t know if Origins is around anymore. I’ve just not worn foundation in years now. I control my skin care carefully. I use liquid eye shadow, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, mascara in either auburn/aborigine or blackest of black, and a lips stain in a sheer a deep rose. And I just use a primer and a BB crème.
      I’m in my mid 40’s, so I use liquid for daily use to mostruruze and hydrate, while not dragging the skin. The coverage is great for my needs. But I’ve missed doing some dramatic effects, so I’m here to learn❤

  • @jillyclaire4299
    @jillyclaire4299 4 місяці тому +4

    I am late to the game because I only recently discovered your channel (love!!!) but I think I have similar undertones to you and I also find that "muddied" or muted colors work best for me! I have some painting/art background and it makes me so happy when the stuff I learned about art crosses over into makeup! So any "pure" color that is mixed with a bit of its complimentary color, aka cool mixed with warm, looks best on my fair olive skin. Whenever I see an oxymoron in a color description, like "warm berry," I usually love it. The Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks M.I. Kiss (muted mauvey berry) and Walk of No Shame (similar but slightly more burnt red) look really pretty. I'm still figuring out what colors look good on me (this video is so helpful!) but I feel like I struck gold with those two shades. I recommend!!

    • @evangelinemolly
      @evangelinemolly  4 місяці тому +1

      It’s so cool how makeup colour theory is art theory too! And that is so true about the oxymoron mixes. I never noticed that but when I hear something like “warm berry” I immediately know it will work!

    I’ve had this problem for as long as I’ve been wearing makeup. I always noticed that when I brought the foundation down to my neck, it would always be way too pink or yellow, making my skin look greenish. I didn’t think too hard about it until I got so fed up with another foundation that didn’t match my skin. I finally realized that I am a fair olive and I’ve found my perfect foundation shade! Can’t even tell it apart from the color of my neck. I’m so happy, it’s been a game changer.

    Aaahhh thank you for this video and welcome to the fair olive club 💚💚💚
    I'm fair neutral leaning slightly cool so not that far from you. The olivemua and fairolives reddits have been pretty eye-opening and great help. From my understanding, the
    ratio between the blue and yellow in your particular green will skew your undertone either on the cool or warm side. If your veins tend to be more sage green= slightly cool. Olive= slightly warm. It's a brain twister but once you're on the right track, things finally click into place. As for colors, for me it's dustymauves and lavenders. Dark berries. Dark sage greens. Golden olives (old and burnished, not brass). Dark charcoals. Neutral/pale golds. That icy true winter look would be what I'd wear and my favorite on you 👍🏻. For palettes, surprisingly : Retro Glam. I hate the way the color story looks but those greenish/greyish browns are my perfect neutrals, they just melt into my skin 😳. Lisa Eldridge's Vega. Viseart Petit Four Peridot.
    Have fun experimenting !

    Watching this I think I might be light olive too 😮. I'm drawn to mauve blushes and lip products. Have you tried Rituel de Fille's foundation? I'd like to try the brand but I'm unsure which shade to pick. I think 105 might be a bit too fair, 115 too golden, but then 110 could be too rosy 😆.

      I haven’t tried it because there’s a nut oil in it and I’m allergic sadly. 105 looks great for the olive undertone but definitely quite fair. Just found this video, and I wanted to say... you're so right. All my life, people told me I was cool toned because I'm very pale, but the colors you listed are the exact same ones that I've come to love on myself. Many colors that fit on both warm and cool sides of the divide can look good if they are tempered with their complement to make them more neutral, and they'll end up looking much prettier on than in the tube. (Finding the right nude lip, for example. It looks horribly dull in the tube but lovely on.) Maybe the upshot is that we are not restricted to either warm or cool. I, too, used to be asked if I was sick. The areas that show the most green on me are typically around my mouth and neck, and oddly, inner elbows. I love all your suggestions, and some of them are ones I've been told to avoid due to the contrast with green, but you hit the nail on he head. Coral or apricot can be great if the color is not too intense. I love a bold red, too. Thanks for affirming this stuff for those of us who are always getting bad advice and have had to make our own way in color choices.

    I’m olive fair with yellow undertone. I think I’m more on warm side cause cool shades don’t work on me. But best I’ve tried out of more than 100 foundation are elf - light ivory yellow undertone , with light sand concealer, and Candy moyo Bb cream shade light 1 if going for more matte look. If going for more moisturize look theirs brand About Face - F2 olive . And revlons 150 whithout the pump that gives of more pinkish under shade. Various type of 150 shade is different in a bit more lighter , darker or yellowish. Louis viton LN1 and Anastasia are great too.

    I relate to this so much because I've also only recently learned that I have light olive skin and everything you said makes so much sense! It was actually my hairdresser who mentioned it, I was talking to him about the shade of blonde I wanted and he casually mentioned "yes this will go best with your olive skin" and my brain exploded. I've wasted so much money on the wrong shades of foundation (even with assistance at stores) and never feeling like it was a good match. Lisa's foundation is my closest match, but she does have new olive shades I'm excited to try for an even more perfect match! I'm watching this video and just nodding yes! to everything you say!

    You should try the Lime Crime Venus XL 2, the one with green, and mauve shades (look at the swatches instead of the packaging, their website describes them as neutral earth tones as well). I dunno if I have a fair olive undertone, lately I just go for neutral foundations because I feel like neither cool nor warm tones totally fit me, but that eyeshadow palette was super flattering on me which I did not expect. I got the palette on sale, and took a chance on it just because I thought the color story was so pretty. It's on sale right now, too, for anyone interested, it's a super underrated palette imo, I find it to be a very user friendly way to wear green eyeshadow.

    I haven't tried any coverage products that are advertised as olive, but I watch a couple of creators that have the same shade match I use (NYX Light) and either describe themselves as olive or at least suspect that they could be olive. That shade in particular is less saturated than the other light shades in NYX's (or other brands') line. I can get away with something more saturated peachy/orange but the level of desaturation makes it a perfect match.
    That being said, lip and cheek shades translate completely differently on me compared to the creators that use the same concealer/foundation shade. I think my hair color might be the reason why, I have charcoal brown hair and eyes, while my "skin twins" have rusty red and strawberry blonde hair. I need a lot of blue in my lip & cheek shades. The only warm-toned blush I wear is a white-based coral (leaning on the pink side of coral). A lot of current lip and cheek shade ranges lean too rusty/terracotta for me. Even the berry Rituelle de Fille lipstick you demoed would probably look like a deep rust on me.

But when I’m healthy and hydrated my skin looks brighter and has a tiny bit of pink to my cheeks. It’s painfully obvious when I’m not well😂 adding warmth to my cheeks either by bronzer or blusher just really brightens up my complexion. I def look my best when I’m tan in summer! after learning I was fair olive it opened my eyes to so many things! Since it's hard to find colourmatch, I have blue pigment from LA girls cosmetics and mix it with warm foundation. Or green pigment too. Mehron has fair olive foundation but it was bit too green for me haha. I haven't tried Lisas makeup yet so I can't compare
    Also, I love pinks and reds. I can' t use corals for some reason but I can use cooler and warmer reds. But because I'm very fair and muted I find too saturated pinks to be overpowering on me. So dusty pink it is! Surprisingly, it's not that easy to find

    Hey! I am a bit confused since I see your blushes are really cool toned aren't they? I thought Plum and marve are cool toned? And for olive leaning warm wouldnt warm tones look better? I think I am olive but I dont know if leaning warm or cool, i think warm, and I think peach and coral looks good as blush, what do you think? Also, what other shades for blush would suit rather than marve or plum? I personally find these shades very sophisticated and I would prefer something more youthful:) e.g. Milani Luminouso is very peachy and it looks great on me and I cannot imagine myself in Plum since it is so cool and olive is not cool, so am I not olive? so confused:))

      Hi! I love this question! First off, I want to start by saying take my reply with a grain of salt, as with most stuff on the internet. There's so much info out there, so many contradicting rules, and it can be overwhelming! I'm going to speak from my experience, and things I've learned that helped me :) First off, like any colour, plums and mauves can be warm, cool, or neutral! The ones I used and mentioned in this video are kinda all over the map with being warm to cool. From what I've learned, these shades are just generally complimentary to olive because they are bit more muted and earthy, which works nicely with olive undertones. In my experience, I find I can play with both warm and cool depending on what effect I want to create. For example, if I want a plum blush to really pop, I'll opt for a cooler tone. If I want it to be more "harmonious" and subtle, I'll opt for a warm/neutral. But no matter how cool or warm, there still is this complimentary tone from the more muted plum/mauve shades. One blush I find looks awful on me though is like a baby pink cool blush... somehow that just looks so odd and I think because it's a bit less of an "earthy" tone. And you're so right, these are more sophisticated tones. I also LOVE peachy pinks when I want to look very flushed, healthy, youthful. Then I'll opt for something like Rose Inc Foxglove which I mentioned. You can see it in action in my Penelope Featherington makeup look, if you're interested! All these different tones are really all about leaning into different effects, but if you're being mindful of the olive undertone, it's often about opting for the more muted versions of shades (e.g. a terracotta peachy shade rather than a bright orange, a rusty red rather than a bright red). And then, there's also the fun in really work against one's undertones. I think it can be so beautiful and striking to play against one's complexion for more bold and eye-catching looks. Of course, not everyone wants to do that but it really can be a fun way to experiment and really understand how colour works for you and your personality and style. I hope this was helpful or at least interesting. Style Me Jenn talks about olive undertones in depth and the Pale Olive reddit thread can be fun to deep dive into. And don't forget to just have fun with makeup :)
