Fair olive soft/light summer here. The "red" that suits me is a brick rose red. Warm colors are a no-go for me. Yellowish olive = You're probably cool(deep winter or soft summer). Go for mauves/pink/rose nudes. Avoid purples. Peach olive = You're most likely warm(deep autumn or soft spring). You can tolerate tomato/coral/peach nudes. Avoid oranges.
Lisa Eldridge lipsticks: Muse, Beauty and Go Lightly are my absolute staples. My oliveness is very cool so I don’t do well with browns, dark (90s style), mauve or copper. I think is important to talk about olive warms and cools. Not all olives can sustain warm tones.
You’re correct….this really makes a difference! It was a revelation when I realized I was olive & why so many shades did & didn’t work for me (it finally all made sense!)👍 I’m a warm-leaning olive skin tone but yes there ARE cool-olives out there too.
Lisa Eldridge's lipstick Velvet Morning brightens up my complexion when I use it as a tint, a little goes a long way. Velvet Cinnabar looks good for winter months but not for summer, because my skin becomes tan and Velvet Cinnabar makes my complexion looks dull/sick. I am light/medium no.9 in Lisa's foundation btw. I am still searching for that perfect red; I have blue undertone on my lips that Velvet Ribbon looked purplish on me instead of true red.
Di :3: Agree, as a medium cool-toned olive skin. I can not wear orange leaning or 99% of lipsticks for European white-skinned people that American cosmetic companies automatically cater to. I am STILL looking for a great red that looks like it as made for my undertone, skin tone, and overtone. Medium cool toned tints/glosses are the closed I can come to a lipstick.

I always went for berries and mauve and warm reds when I didnt know I was olive toned but now I know why. My skin tone looks similar to yours and I have black hair too. And you look like Maggie Cheung!
I have olive skin but after having a seasonal color analysis (House of Colour), I discovered that I am a winter and need cool, blue-based colors like fuchsia and plum to complement my skin tone. Warm colors look horrible on me!
In into tinted lip balms and Happiberry from Charlotte Tilbury and Gucci Lipbalm in Penelope Plum are amazing. In lipstick I only use Falbala from Nars.
Ooh I'm black, dark olive with cool undertones and I knew I looked better in those colours before I could name my skin tone lol, tried so hard with reds, I can make cool reds work, but plum, cool toned fuschia, wow, it just works.
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! You are so pretty and I love your style and black hair. Lipstick colors have been hell for me and I just gave up! Now I'm wearing glosses. But I love a good creamy matte. My hair is a natural dark brown with soft black brows, but I have a fair complexion. I've never understood why I look fair but need neutral cover-up shades-- peach tones are the best match. But I sometimes have a very gold cast to my skin and get super tan in the summer if I go out in the sun. Silver and gold both work on me. I thought I was neutral leaning pink and was so confused because I can really rock oranges and those same browns you use! Now I understand that I actually have fair cool olive undertones, and that's why. Great work, I'll be following you and catching up on your archives!
The earlier ones make you look washed out and pale. But the later ones, especially gingerbread with the orangish tint, they flatter your skin tone and face overall. I’m pale olive also. I will look into those later lipsticks
Revlon makes a shade called "abstract orange" that, despite its name, is lovely on olives. It is a coppery red tone, not straight up orange. I use it instead of classic red shades. Revlon also makes a lacquer balm in "coy" that is a coppery mauve. Urban Decay shades in "trip" and "backtalk" are great matte nudes as well. I found out the hard way that lighter nudes and peaches are not my friends. I thought they would work because I was under the impression that I was a light neutral/warm tone. I didn't understand why mauves and berries worked so well. Since I realized I was actually a paler olive, it has allowed me to make better choices when I buy makeup. Edit: I am a deep autumn, btw.
I love seeing someone with my skin color. My favorite sheer color is Falbala from Nars. I also look good in HappiBerry from Charlotte Tilbury and was very into Diabolique from RMS but it is now discontinued. I am a Deep Autumn/Winter and the colors Plum, Berry and Rose/Wood look the best on my skin.
@@violetviolet888 I am just slightly warm toned. Now I am using also MAC Spicy it Up and Posh Pit, ILIA lipbalm in Lady and GUCCI lipsheer in Rosewood. As for the toe, I am really in the iddle in between light and medium. I use G9 in glossier for reference
Very nice recommendations! As a teen I was convinced that lipsticks just don't work on me and thought that something was wrong with my lips! Back then extreme shades weren't really a thing where I live and everyone kept recommending light pinks and peaches for teens but they made me look so sickly... Red was a big no no because it was considered to difficult to put on neatly and too provocative / daring for a young girl. And darker shades were said to look too aging on young girls and only for the older ladies. So I gave up on lipsticks completely and just stuck to glosses until my early twenties when I tried red and mauve lipsticks and found out that they looked amazing with my skin and hair colour!
me too! light pinks and peaches colours look weird on me, but I can not say the same about the pinkish brown shade of nude lipstick, and I love since I was a teenager (by the way, it was like a old lady color where I live, but my grandma gave it to me since the lipstick didn't look nice on her, so it was a funny, nice thing that happened)
I'm black, dark olive with cool undertones, but before i recently figured that out, twig has been my most worn nude-ish pink.I bought other lipsticks but every time I need to go out, my hands are already reaching for twig because everything else didn't give me the "something" I saw with twig.
if any makeup line ever made a coffee-themed series (in ID we had maybelline & 2 local brands), they're usually brown toned so most if not all of the nudes/vampy ones would look great on me, but not the reds because they tend to be too "rich" & warm. i'm better off for neutrals and cool ones
It's really interesting, i oheard about olive skintone not long ago. I wonder if I'm olive or not. im still confused 😅 i do know that Rosewood clothes color looks the best on me, a bright blue ( electric blue i think?) Looks really good on me, a light middle chroma pink and also a nice warm mauve i think, my old foundation ( back then i was doing makeup but i dont anymore) was neutral 23 but it did oxide 😅 and for lipstick blush berry color and mauve was the best + rosewood pink
I just bought MAC La Da dahlia lipstick and i didn't love it because it just like a dull pink so I had to use a brown liner and it was a bit of a better contrast. My favorite MAC red lipstick is Brave Red which is a yellow red. I also LoVE whirl
Hey someone please help me ,I have blue purple and olive green Veins and I have yellowish neck but fair face with some redness but cool toned foundation doesn't look good on me, and warm and neutral also don't look good on me,please let me if I am an olive or not ,and if I am a olive then tell me I am a cool or warm olive
I would describe my skin as light olive skin tone with more yellow/gold undertone, whereas there can also be medium and dark olive skin tone with either warm or cool undertones as well, so olive would have a spectrum that includes light/pale (even if less common) all the way to darker shades :)
radziahradzi: Little known fact even in the makeup industry: "Olive” is not simply a word used for medium skin tones, but a fourth type of undertone. One that isn’t talked about much, but definitely exists and comes in all different shades from light to dark." Undertones do not change even if your skin color does (tan in summer/lighter in winter). Green undertones are harder to see when someone has been tanned by the sun. Olive undertones include yellow and green by default, however Olive Undertones still can be cool OR warm. Even if you are a cool-toned olive, there IS a bit of yellow in there, though it may not appear obvious and something most articles and info on this topic fail to talk about. It's all about ratio. This youtuber is a light warm olive-warm automatically includes yellow, but more of it to where it pushes warm as opposed to not enough of it to tip you to warm when means you end up in the cool toned olive camp.
i've been questioning my undertone because most warm toned foundations felt like there's something wrong on me even if i thought it was a perfect shade match 🥹 and i look absolutely horrible with cool toned lipstick
I would definitely check out more of the neutral or olive foundations to see if there's a shade that matches. Some brands that have olive-toned or friendly shades shades are NYX and Revlon for drugstore and then NARS, Dior, or Armani. If they don't have "olive" in the shade, it might be under a word like "beige" or "almond" and tends to look a bit more gray than the warm tones, like "honey"
