This brings tears to my eyes, to see Nelson and Blackout forever immortalized on a portrait. They were inseparable till Nelson passed away then Blackout passed a year after.
Aww this made me smile. I love Nelson's videos from the 80s and have binge watched him, Ru, Pop Tarts, Lahoma, Larry T, Eric, Sylvia, Lady Bunny and the rest of the fab gang for hours on UA-cam. What a great painting!!
Wonder what Nelson would have thought about the world the way it is today? The old door there still the same and the plant thing growing up the outside wall. Then that road down where Nelson went for his last walk with Blackout. All those years ago. So much has changed but some things stay the same. Kind of sad in a way
The wisteria has been growing there now for forty years! The street you mention leading to the river is Gansevoort Street. It's also where Nelson passed the restaurant window and said, "Lambert and the waitress from Florent are waving hello to us", in one of his last videos.
🍂 This is gorgeous, so lifelike. My favorite Southern gentleman was incredibly handsome, as well as a kind & compassionate spirit. It's 2023 & he's still missed... it''s amazing how Blackout' gaze radiates love & devotion while enjoying his atta boy head pat. I'm in tears, this is truly a masterpiece. Thank you Tom, I truly hope Nelson was able to enjoy it, at least for a NY second.💞
I remember back in 2019 coming to see his house. I loved how that vine and old door were still there and thought that it was so cool that I am seeing where nelson Sullivan actually lived
Boy, we all had dreams in our heads and some of us made it. Glad to be a life long full time fine artist though without the money. I always have a sugar momma. When I painted Nelson's portrait it was a tough struggling time. I did not sign the work. Nelson was being kind to a fellow artist. He was a landed gentleman. He turned me on to his family who supported me a few years as I was their artist in residence. But the funny part of being in Nelson's videos is we age and they do not.
@@TomLohre49, I have been lucky to become friends with Ryan, who showed me the Portrait at Mark's old Apt and met his family. They told me some very nice stories about Nelson and did bring your name up.
Great beautiful painting, I visited there last year on my birthday and took a picture in front your Portrait, oh boy I wish I hade painting, Love it. Miss Nelson I wish I could of met him. ✌️
Nelson Sullivan I hope you are with Jesus because Nelson you are so special to me and I love you very much but foremost I love more than anyone Father God, your son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
OMG that was him??? I remember seeing the vid, he worked so hard on both... amazing, the same hands working those heavy, awkward tools also labored so delicately on that magnificent portrait, WOW, I'm in awe!
@@marsh443 yeah if you remember Nelson kept going back to the the kitchen to see if Jonathan (lahoma) had left him and the handyman (artist) some food lol I actually think Nelson mentions his painting in that video too.
@@AlbyGrandSlots 😂 Oh yeah, I remember Lahoma' sheepish expression when it's been discovered...🥴 Come to think of it, I vaguely recall Nelson once giving us a brief tour of his home' interior where I glimpsed the portrait. Tkx Albert, for helping me recollect these precious memories & more good times, xo🍂
Tom Lohre Many thanks for taking the time to reply. It’s great to know the painting still belongs in the Sullivan family and although I never knew Nelson personally he seemed such a fascinating character. God bless

The artist actually fixed Nelson’s kitchen sink and toilet in the late 80’s.

We love you Nelson and blackout 2024
And is this in his old apartment?
yes it is
Oh yeah the guy that use to have the camcorder I was a kid back then though.
Is the painting for sale?
No, it belongs to Nelson's brothers partner. She was nice to lend it to the show. It's back home on Park Avenue.

I can paint you another portrait of Nelson for you.
@@thegreattomaso2553 did u paint one
No but I can always paint another.
❤️
hi
Yes, I can paint another. Send an email to tom@tomlohre.com.
He's trapped in there let him out
I'm trying to figure out what he was famous for besides being Gay
For documenting on film a specific period of time n New York. And you?
Being gay is not a source of fame in NYC. You need more on the ball than that.
Awesome
