For normal runs, sure, pikmin is way easier, but the thing about darksouls is you can (in theory) beat it with nothing without making too many changes to your strategy, as the game is designed to take different builds into account, while pikmin expects you to do certain things like use all pikmin and actually collect resources. In a way, while I can't speak for difficulty, I think pikmulin is more likely to make you stuck, and that knowledge alone can make attempts feel pointless.

27:22 I feel so bad for you Lemon. The Maestro is the most cheeseable boss in Pikmin 3. It only targets your active captain, so you can park one behind the lone mushroom in the arena to bait attacks with minimal risk.
I'd argue that the Belching Meerslug is the easiest to cheese. When it starts using one of its pit attacks, you can just Charge your Pikmin towards it as they can latch onto its mouth without being eaten, meaning that it'll launch itself out of the ground nearly instantly

You actually lost pikmin to the Armored Mawdad, I've never seen that before. That should be an achievement like the "Welcome to Dark Souls" Achievement when you die.
right i played pikmin 3 several times on all the difficulties and only realized it even had an attack on the hardest difficulty... i lost all of 3 pikmin
I've always thrown Caution to the wind with that boss, because I've never lost any Pikmin to the boss. I get board and just try to get it over with as fast as possible on all difficulties. Wonder if the Wii U pikmin 3 is Different?
In the Wii U version the armored mawdad did pose a slight threat since his mandibles took quite a few hits to break. For some reason in the switch version his mandibles break in one hit which means the pikmin can easily escape
@turtlemagnet The only reason I can think is that in the switch version, there's 3 level of difficulty(Normal, spicy and ultra spicy) and that the wii u version use the spicy difficulty, so it's maybe just a thing if you play in normal mode on the switch
@@wafwaf485 I've only played the switch version since I've never owned a Wii U. Even on Ultra Spicy it's incredibly hard to have any fight with the Armored Crawmad where your pikmin are in danger. What I typically do when I tackle the Formidable Oak, is park Brittany somewhere that I can easily loop while I get my other two captains to actually complete the puzzles. Then I just periodically switch back to Brittany so that she keeps leading the Wraith in a circle. Should make it possible to easily complete the puzzle section of the level in one day.
When I did this challenge myself, I completely forgot that half a fruit also doesn't count as fruit. As a result, I made this challenge a lot harder for myself by only collecting almost 2 grapes and most of the watermelon. But hey, it is possible when using lots of glitches and spending about one day per area
Fun Fact: When fighting the Phosbat, if you just go for the bridge pieces and not the lightbulbs, and then turn on the main light as the only light in the cave, it prevents the little babies from spawning and overwhelming you during a run. Plus it lets you go straight for the main foe.
That was a nice take on the game, I expected this to be another "this colour only", but this was a nice change of pace. It's kind of a speed run but yet not. Good job!
Partial fruits like grapes were the biggest problem when I tried to figure out how many flavors of juice were possible to make in the game (since a 19 grape mix is different from a 18 grape mix)
watermelons will definitely save them given how much juice they can provide. starfruit and kiwi are a bit more nutritious, and Grapes are pretty rations.

Tbh, Rock Pikmin are probably my favorite Pikmin type in the series, followed closely by White Pikmin. Sure, they can't latch on like other Pikmin, so don't have as good sustained damage (especially compared to Reds), but the ability to push out a ton of burst damage in a short amount of time (oftentimes before an enemy can even react) is absolutely invaluable, and I played heavily into this in my playthrough. Plus, the ability to throw a couple at some Wollywogs and not worry about them while you do other stuff is a very nice bonus!

TECHNICALLY you did not doom them to starve, they know the planet has fruit now, so they can send entire missions out there with the goal of getting more fruit, they might go hungry for a bit longer but they will survive
This video made me want to try this but on Ultra spicy difficulty on the Deluxe version of Pikmin 3. The major difference being you only get half of the juice from fruit you would normally get, and you can only have 60 Pikmin of the field. I've gotten to the part where I've saved Louie, but something has happened that I've never seen before. The problem is I don't have any juice left, not because I'm going to die, but because there is no juice for Louie to steal. The game won't progress until Louie has juice to steal. But you hardly get any juice on Ultra Spicy and I can't seem to get enough. Though with better routing, I might be able to do it. I've got a plan though. Go back to day 3, get 2 grapes, grab the half fruit in the crystal in the cave, and save Charlie. Day 4, fight the boss and get most of the fruit it drops, get the grapes, and the half the star fruit that's hanging. I'm skipping the Bradey Long Legs because there's literally not enough time or Pikmin on the field to do either fight. I'll edit this comment if I ever get past this part. Update 1: I haven't saved Louie yet, but I'll have enough juice. I have two juices right now. Twilight River takes 2 days without glitches, and I can get one juice. Meaning by the end I'll have one juice left over which Louie should steal. Update 2: It is possible. Update 2.5: Okay, so heres what I did. On day 7 I clipped the Alph into the wall to get him on the other side the river, skipping needing to build the pot. I beat the Mirclops, grabbed the grapes and half a star fruit from the Clawmad. I then did the Formiddable Oak in two days. If you can do the Formiddable Oak in a single day, then it is absolutely possible without glitches. But Day 4 was major pain and this already took me long enough to do. Tldr: Yes this is possible on Ultra Spicy Difficulty.
Feel the need to say, you can easily avoid getting olimar kidnapped during the puzzles and finish them all in a single day. My strat is to have winged carry olimar with Brittany kiting the boss in massive circles

Man, lemon made the boss puzzle run so much harder by not abusing the move to location feature of Pikmin 3 and just circling the boss with Brittany while working with Alf and the captain.
As a lifelong Pikmin fan and a years-long Backlogs fan, I'm absolutely loving this recent string of videos. I'll admit, your inexperience did make me cringe a couple of times, but you beat the challenge and had fun doing it, and that's what matters in the end! I wonder if this challenge might be possible on the Switch version's extra-spicy difficulty (which halves the juice you get) by someone with some real speedrunning experience. Loved the video, might try this challenge myself sometime!
One thing for the final area I remember doing is using Winged Pikmin on Olimar and just looping Brittany around the start making the Plasm Wraith go in a full circle until the day ended or I cleared most of the puzzles for her to have a safe path to the exit.
Oooooo! I've been really loving watching all of your Pikmin videos, they've all been so good, and I'm slowly starting to watch some of your other videos too when I've had the chance. You make some great content! I actually never knew the Plasma Wraith would use its elemental attacks before the fight if it didn't think it could get away, that was so cool to learn. I guess when I played all those years ago either it never went for it thanks to me usually always having a mix of every Pikmin type with me, or maybe I just got lucky to never have to deal with it. ...Or maybe I just forgot, that may also be possible. Still so cool to be learning new things about the first Pikmin game I ever played all these years later! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to listen to my rambling, hope you have an amazing rest of your day!
I have beaten this game so many times, but I had no idea that the Plasm Wraith could do it's elemental attacks before the actual fight. I always just have it and Brittany run circles around the first Bulborb room while I progress through the area. You just switch when she says it's getting close and move her a half circle around.
Just played my first diablo game yesterday and i've been having the time of my life! Happy i learned about how fun the series is from watching your videos 😸
pikmin 3 my beloved, literally my fave in the series!!!! so happy yall duked it out in THIS game in particular, i just get to eat more pikmin 3 content YIPPEE also props for the twilight princess music (it's literally my favorite video game ever--of all time) that game's soundtrack is a GOLDMINE, a treasure trove of goodies!!! :3
A tip I used for years for the third section of the formidable oak, I just park Brittany in the water with blues carrying olimar. The boss will not go in the water. So I just leave alph and Charlie to deal w the puzzles and draw it away to get Brittany out of there.
One way I've found to get around having to deal with the baby phosbat things during the phosbat fight is to simply not light up any of the smaller bulbs. The eggs don't start shooting them out until the first bulb gets turned on, so no bulbs = no tiny bats
So, uh, I see that Lemon isn't familiar with the word "maestro". To be more helpful though, the best way to fight the Scornet Maestro is with 100 Winged Pikmin. Just bait it with a Pikminless leader and once it's targeting them, switch to the leader with the Pikmin and charge it from behind. Easiest way to kill it without losing any Pikmin. And very quickly. Getting to it in one-day probably makes switching to all wings infeasible, but the baiting part stands.
Hey Lemon, got an idea for you. So with every game, there comes a time where people make randomisers and from what ive seen, there are very few people that have done pikmin randomisers such as Prodigious SP, I think it would be pretty fun to see how you approach a randomiser I hope you read this Lemon!

The goblin-like screech I let out when i saw my username on the patron screen, it feels so surreal being able to support one of my favorite content creators. Thank you Lemon for all the wonderful content!
I figured out the trick of this run from the title and knowing a bit about the game, and honestly, it's kind of an amazing idea for really giving Pikmin 3 a big boost of difficulty, which deals with a common criticism of the game overall. Awesome video and a lot of fun to watch.
Actually, with a Check In conversation, you find the reason why Koppai is having a food crisis: Their biology essentially tells them to always be hungry, and to always keep eating. That, and due to the population growth and lack of foresight from the opening narration.
Looking through comments I don't think I saw anyone mention it, but when Louie steals your fruit if you don't get any food Brittany pulls out her secret reserve of rations, giving you a bit longer to survive
I did a minimum fruit run only having to get 1 fruit, the watermelon. I was already aware of the game not counting grapes and other stuff like it but I felt like only getting one fruit felt more rewarding and challenging, highly recommend!
I havent read too many of the comments, but heres the strategy I use in the oak to finish all the puzzles in 1 day: put 10 wings on olimar, create a large loop path in the oak, and send brittany on that loop while using the other 2 captains and the rest of the pikmin to complete the puzzles. Swap back to brittany if the wraith gets close and use go here to just send her in a circle.
A tactic to beat the quaggled mireclops is to use a squad of all winged, when the boss is vulnerable just charge with the winged and they go straight to the fruit part instead of just jumping under it like all the other pikmin, and having them all on a once is faster than throwing them one by one, use spicy sprays to speed up even more, they are even unaffected by the puddles so it’s a win win situation
As somebody who has beaten pikmin 3 in 10 days because I have 0 life. I feel bad for you because there’s a lot of possible parts that you skipped over like distant tundra in one day that would’ve made the challenge so much easier. Really good job though, you still played great.
I feel like we just witnessed Lemon's villain arc begin. The channel will spiral into the deepest depths of Pikmin lore and strats possible. *goes to grab popcorn and settles in* This'll be good.
Heres a challenge idea what could be fun if you need a break from all the super hard challenges, Pikmin 1: make ((and keep alive!)) as many pikmin as possible in the 30 days: Bonus challenge: get ALL the ship parts as well, ((so you'd need to protect as many pikmin as possible on the journey, because every death is a pikmin lost frok your score))
oh, the story reminded me of a weird Flash game," Galaxy Harvest". you plant life on different worlds, and later harvest it for "Biomass", your main resource. the TRICKY part is that eventually Intelligent life will evolve, and start shooting down your ships! ironically, the ONLY way to improve your Tech level is to LET that happen, THEN defeat them! the BEST tech upgrade, in my experience, is an "Armored Harvester", that can still collect "biomass" from hostile worlds. -the game will send out harvesters automatically, BTW.
I really enjoy watching your vids lemon. It always feels kind of like when we were kids and we would just go to a friends house and sit on the couch watching me play through one of their favorite games just chatting about how it works and cool exploits bugs or mechanics.
A nice trick in the Wii U version, you can use the dodge wistle with winged pikmin on a cardboard box early in the area to skips to the last area in the Oak. This allows the ability to complete the area in one day.

I always just have it and Brittany run circles around the first Bulborb room while I progress through the area. You just switch when she says it's getting close and move her a half circle around.
Little does Lemon know, the lemon he "saved from it's perch" is now in danger of being eaten by his natural predators, this is problematic behavior.
Just played my first diablo game yesterday and i've been having the time of my life! Happy i learned about how fun the series is from watching your videos 😸
pikmin 3 my beloved, literally my fave in the series!!!! so happy yall duked it out in THIS game in particular, i just get to eat more pikmin 3 content YIPPEE
also props for the twilight princess music (it's literally my favorite video game ever--of all time) that game's soundtrack is a GOLDMINE, a treasure trove of goodies!!! :3
A tip I used for years for the third section of the formidable oak, I just park Brittany in the water with blues carrying olimar. The boss will not go in the water. So I just leave alph and Charlie to deal w the puzzles and draw it away to get Brittany out of there.
They day Pikmin becomes an RTS the torch goes to GianGrantGames to do a deathless run
One way I've found to get around having to deal with the baby phosbat things during the phosbat fight is to simply not light up any of the smaller bulbs. The eggs don't start shooting them out until the first bulb gets turned on, so no bulbs = no tiny bats
8:20 It can go to the firebomb academy to become a lemon-nade
So, uh, I see that Lemon isn't familiar with the word "maestro". To be more helpful though, the best way to fight the Scornet Maestro is with 100 Winged Pikmin. Just bait it with a Pikminless leader and once it's targeting them, switch to the leader with the Pikmin and charge it from behind. Easiest way to kill it without losing any Pikmin. And very quickly. Getting to it in one-day probably makes switching to all wings infeasible, but the baiting part stands.
That part with the lemon was hilarious Comedy Gold to me XD
Love you Lemon
Congratulations on creating a new speed running category for the game.
This is actually a very intuitive, and dynamic run.
I like this little friendship between thee and press A
I hope you continue to just have fun and enjoy games
It is kinda wild how pikmin 3 regressed the level of control you have over your pikmin.
18:55 Well played! Keeping the secret for 18 minutes, keeping the unknowing viewer engaged all the way to the reveal... that is no mean feat!
Lemon: hits an archnorb and clearly does a third of its health. "That's basically a one shot."
You failed the challenge. The video has Lemon in it >:(
Hey Lemon, got an idea for you.
So with every game, there comes a time where people make randomisers and from what ive seen, there are very few people that have done pikmin randomisers such as Prodigious SP, I think it would be pretty fun to see how you approach a randomiser
I hope you read this Lemon!
When i read this title, i thought there was no feasible way to accomplish it. You proved me wrong
_"Koppai's inhabitants have all but exhausted their food supply."_
_"Their only hope is to find another planet with edible matter."_
_"To their dismay, their search is proving... fruitless."_ (7:15)
The footage of the versus mode at the start was made much harder to follow since I couldn't tell who was on the top of the screen and who was on the bottom. A very simple edit there would have helped.
He's creating a new speedrun category out of sheer annoyance
This was very entertaining! Glad collecting partial fruit didn’t count toward the fruit goal! 😁
The goblin-like screech I let out when i saw my username on the patron screen, it feels so surreal being able to support one of my favorite content creators. Thank you Lemon for all the wonderful content!
The low amount of juice being collected reminds me of how little juice you get in the true spice mod of Pikmin 3
Just binged most of your dark souls challenge runs, as someone who has never played a souls game, I actually love those videos.
Government: "Go find fruit so we can eat!" Lemon: No
I did a minimum fruit run only having to get 1 fruit, the watermelon. I was already aware of the game not counting grapes and other stuff like it but I felt like only getting one fruit felt more rewarding and challenging, highly recommend!
This looks like the birth of a new speedrun category
But-but lemon is a fruit. And lemon is playing. So how do work do?
I wasn't sure of the rule being used to break this game, and I find myself pleasantly surprised by what the loophole used.
If this was a real fruitless run, the intro would just be “Hey, its , welcome to The Backlogs“
I have been binging your challenge runs, wild to catch a new one as it goes up
I feel like we just witnessed Lemon's villain arc begin. The channel will spiral into the deepest depths of Pikmin lore and strats possible. *goes to grab popcorn and settles in* This'll be good.
Heres a challenge idea what could be fun if you need a break from all the super hard challenges,
Pikmin 1: make ((and keep alive!)) as many pikmin as possible in the 30 days:
Bonus challenge: get ALL the ship parts as well, ((so you'd need to protect as many pikmin as possible on the journey, because every death is a pikmin lost frok your score))
I am loving this PIKMIN arc Lemon has been going on
I keep forgetting Backlogs does more than Soulslikes and am always pleasantly surprised.
Fun fact this challenge is a speedrun category
oh, the story reminded me of a weird Flash game," Galaxy Harvest".
you plant life on different worlds, and later harvest it for "Biomass", your main resource.
the TRICKY part is that eventually Intelligent life will evolve, and start shooting down your ships!
ironically, the ONLY way to improve your Tech level is to LET that happen, THEN defeat them!
the BEST tech upgrade, in my experience, is an "Armored Harvester", that can still collect "biomass" from hostile worlds.
-the game will send out harvesters automatically, BTW.
I really enjoy watching your vids lemon. It always feels kind of like when we were kids and we would just go to a friends house and sit on the couch watching me play through one of their favorite games just chatting about how it works and cool exploits bugs or mechanics.
I can’t wait for Lemon’s and Press A,s romance arc
bro took the first boss and described it as the hardest boss in the game
A nice trick in the Wii U version, you can use the dodge wistle with winged pikmin on a cardboard box early in the area to skips to the last area in the Oak. This allows the ability to complete the area in one day.
COMPLETELY unrelated to the video, but I finally have video evidence of someone else saying crawdad.
This game was my childhood, thanks for the dose of nostalgia, Lemon.
24:29 FINALLY, someone actually understands what is the peak Pikmin design, I knew I liked you Mr.Fruit ❤
