The first watch I ever bought for myself was the Steeldive 1953. I still wear it and it serves me well. Thinking about buying the Sn-017 with the mother of pearl dial. That dial looks absolutely stunning
I have made my first San Martin purchase. I bought the SN004-G/6200 Vintage Diver. Recently I have purchased 2 Baltic Aquascaphe's (Blue Gilt, White), 1 Méraud Bonaire (grey full kit) and 1 RLG Odyssea (black). All of them are 38/39mm and are all top notch. San Martin were very attentive, communicative and quite affable when I placed an order for a custom dialed Vintage Diver. San Martin manufacture a high grade watch and I am fascinated to the point I wear their Vintage Diver quite a lot. Solid, high legibility and reliably accurate. Your review is outstanding!

Great review! I have the V2 of this SN017-G with the San Martin text instead of the applied hex logo. I do think it is amazing value for money, if you don’t mind wearing an homage watch.
I agree with you a 100%, the White paint on the Bezel, makes Arabic numerals pop so much more than on the Rolex with the Platinum Arabic numerals, after having the privilege of having both of them in my hand at once. I like your independent thinking not fooled and just thinking Rolex is better in every way. Yeah mon respect in every aspect.
Fantastic review as always.I just received the watch and i want to say that the finishing is 10 out of 10 just like rolex finishing.Everything about this piece is perfect i cant understand how they can provide this quality in this price range.
Thank You for your review. I prefer the milsub to this. Also there are unfortunately QC issues with this. The lume is not matched in shade on examples that buyers and some reviewers have had. This brings up a problem with San Martin - CS. It is lacking. Proxima manage to have excellent service but unfortunately SN 's is totally lacking. I prefer the sword hand on the milsub as I find the Mercedes hand a cliché.. It's just a better watch in my opinion for other reasons also...
Got into watches recently and came across your channel. Amazing content! I’ve started by ordering an Adiesdive Submariner homage and wanna get this San Martin one later sometime. Learning alot from your channel. :) I know you’ve retired from UA-cam so I don’t know if you’ll reply lol, enjoy your time off. 👍🏽
When you said, "It could not be beaten", it was all over for me. I ordered the one in blue using your discount code and I could not feel better. Thanks.
Thank you for watching Mark. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Also check out my "Community" page. I am currently working on an idea for an SN017 no-date Milsub version. I would interested to hear your feedback on it. Regards, #WR4K
I don’t understand why SM haven’t made a homage flip lock clasp such as that found on the Submariner. They seem to get pretty much everything else right, so why the need to create their own style for the clasp ? I have ordered this watch today btw.
Your reviews are excellent 👏🏻 Just so professional and impartial and very helpful when making one’s mind up on which watch to add to my growing collection 😀 Thank you so much.
Hello, This is my first Submariner date, homage. I received the V3 model of this watch, today. I haven't sized the bracelet thus far but my initial thoughts are positive. The finishing on the case and bracelet is really nice. I really like the case shape with the thick lugs too, It also has that nice feeling of heft. I'm I have to congratulate you on the review of this watch. Thank you.
Clean and crisp review as per normal. The Chinese are doing a wonderful job, I already own a collection of Pagani watches including the "Pagani Design PD-1662 GMT Root Beer Homage" which I bought as soon as I saw your review. I really like this one but like I said I already have a few submariner homage watches. I know which one I will buy in case that I change my mind. ;) I start to wonder if other watchmakers are ripping us off when you see how much quality the Chinese can deliver at a fraction of the asking price of many other brands.
Thank you for watching Pietro. Glad you enjoyed it. Also check out my Submariner Date versus PD-1661 review, it may interest you. Wear your pieces in good health. Regards, #WR4K
Do you think that the extra cost for the SN017G V3 is worth it over the PD1661, or what is the current best value for money Submariner homage? (I have a 16,5" wrist.)
Like a submariner watch. . Thinking if I should make review on this watch as well, but my Omega watches channel audience I dont think will appreciate this. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful watch
Thank you for watching Aleksey. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep up the good work on your watch channel. Also check out my Omega Seamaster review, it may interest you. Regards, #WR4K
I need this now! Love this! Great review. That magnifier will help me with my old eyes! Love that beautiful domed sapphire. Excellent finishing and polishing. Bezel of my dreams. What a price! Thanks for the discount info!
Great review - I think a comparison review of a Sn019 would be informative . The Cronos L6005 would be a good comparison also at the respective price points . The pt5000 comes with the cronos which is about the same price as the sn017 with the nh35. Also the sn019 has zero decent reviews on UA-cam now that Gary from I like watches had pulled all his sn019 reviews
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reviewing the SN019 this week. Apologies I don't have time to do a comparison review SN017 versus SN019 as I have lots of watches incoming. Also I don't want to review too many San Martin in quick succession; I prefer to mix the brands I review. To give you an idea of my upcoming workload; I have to review a Panerai, and Speedmaster for Chronext. Also a Boderry for their Kickstarter campaign. The SN019, Tactical Frog, Heimdallr for Watchdives. 3 Pagani Designs for a reseller. Then after that; Rolex Explorer, Rolex Submariner, Tudor Black Bay Chronograph, Omega Planet Ocean, for Chronext. So you see I really don't have any time available for comparison videos. My PD-1661 versus Submariner Date review did good view numbers; so I would like to do more comparison videos in the future when I have more time available. As my channel has grown, my workload has also grown exponentially too. I have to reply to comments daily on my 133 videos, plus reply to emails from brands; which all eats into the time available to record reviews and upload them. 4K video files are four times larger than 1080 you see; so one 15-20 minute video takes 2-3 hours to upload and fully process to 4K. My SN017 review was popular, so I am sure my SN019 will be too. Many collectors want to know is it worth paying the extra for the PT5000, and Glidelock style clasp? I was asked many times over the last year to review a SN017, and SN019 on my channel; so it will be good to get them both done. Regards, #WR4K
Had mine for 2 months. Happy with purchase, watch loses about 5 secs a day. Only thing I'd critcise is the outside edges of the bracelet links are sharp. I rounded mine with emery board as was uncomfortable otherwise on my wrist when the watch moved.
Thank you for watching. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. No sharp edges on my bracelet, so this is something San Martin must have improved upon. Regards, #WR4K
Got one the other day with the new clasp with logo on , it only has 4 holes for ajustment and not 6 but still plenty and i will say it is like silk to open and close plus the fit and looks are great love it me
Thank you for watching Dave. Congratulations Dave. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Yes, the V3 clasp is better; even though it has less holes I prefer it. Regards, #WR4K
Wow you love that piece! If I didn't know you from you tube I'd say you were a really good san Martin sales rep!! You have sold me on this piece for sure 👍
Wow, this is an incredible review, thank you for the in depth explanation and high quality images. I have now subscribed to your channel and purchased this watch.
Thank you for watching Akshay. Glad you enjoyed it. This has a 2.5x magnification cyclops, and 6 micro adjustments in the clasp. Also it is 204 USD (173 Euro) versus 455 Euro. Personally I would choose the SN017. Regards, #WR4K
Hi. Another great vid. San martin are great, but they need to sort their "logo" out. Looks high quality but cartoon-ish. Their cursive script "San Martin" explorer homage also seems odd to me.
I dont mind the cursive logo much on my SM 6200. Its small enough to wear it doesn’t feel overly done or gaudy but thats my opinion. I personally love the watch and so far is the only SM I plan on owning.
Hi John great review. I’m very tempted to purchase this watch however I’m concerned that more and more watches are being sold from Aliexpress with Miyota 8215 movements instead which is probably where I would’ve bought from. What’s your thoughts on this current situation?
Thank you for watching Michael. Agreed, this is a concern. Due to the NH35A shortage in China (and wholesale price increase); Pagani Design switched to using the 8215. San Martin switched to using the YN55A. However I prefer the NH35A to the 8215 as it has hacking, and is a higher quality movement. My advice is to purchase your SN017-G from watchdives.com as their stock is NH35A. See link below. Use the discount code "WR4K" to get 10 USD off. The problem with purchasing from AliExpress resellers is their pictures, and descriptions cannot be trusted. For example collector have bought PD-1661's advertised with NH35A's; and the watch arrived with an 8215. Interestingly Pagani Design have now switched over to using the YN55A in their latest PD-1661's. The SN017-G is a level above the PD-1661 in quality, so it is worth paying the extra. Also the latest V3 versions have the same 2 button push clasp as the SN020-G which is better quality. Regards, #WR4K watchdives.com/collections/san-martin-watch/products/san-martin-ghost-mens-automatic-mechanical-watches
Hello! I would like an opinion what to choose between this model or BB58 both with Seiko NH movement. I have 6.5inch wrist an maybe the submariner might be to wide for me. thanl you
@@watchreviews4k many thanks for your quick reply. I think I will proceed with this model as I think it offers better value for money and reliability over the SN019. As you say the quality is better over the PD1661, my only wish would be a flip lock sub style clasp to really complete this watch!
Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wears yours in good health. The SN017-G is currently 219 USD on Watchdives. See link below. Regards, #WR4K watchdives.com/products/san-martin-ghost-mens-automatic-mechanical-watches?_pos=2&_sid=783ead806&_ss=r
@@watchreviews4k I would just like to add an update. Having worn this for a week now I can further testify to just how excellent this watch is. The SN017-G is 100% the best Submariner Date homage money can buy, better than the SN019-G and PD1661. The proportions of the SN017-G case means that it wears like a dream and the finishing from SM on the case and bracelet is flawless. With it's regulated NH movement and impressive timekeeping, the timepiece certainly lives up to your glowing review. Many thanks, A
I have just recieved this watch after seeing this review. Looks and feels fantastic! What i do notice is the clasp is different. It has 4 micro adjustments and the ‘san martin’ logo on it plus the 2 press in button release rather than the v shape lock. Its the V3 but wonder if its an upgrade since your vid? Or not? Any ideas?
Thank you for watching Lee. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Yes, after this video San Martin decided to update the SN017 clasp to the SN020 one. I prefer it. Regards, #WR4K
Great review as always ☺️. I want to ask the san martin has changed the clasp to a 2 button clasp so this is better quality and comfortable than the clasp used on this version?
@@watchreviews4k Hi again! I received the watch two days ago. And I can say I am more than satisfied. The finish is really high grade, and the bracelet is very good. But I noticed that my model has not the same clasp. My sample has 4 micro adjustment holes while your reviewed sample has 6 holes. And my model simply is called steel sub. Otherwise everything else seems to be the same.
I really enjoyed this review. I currently own an Invicta prodiver with the Malaysian NH35 a movement . It runs consistently at + 4.5 seconds per day so I’m more than happy with it . However, I’m getting increasingly dissatisfied with other aspects of this watch: the appalling lume , janky bracelet and overbearing branding. I’d like to replace it with this San Martin. I’m resident in France so any purchase from outside the EU over €150 adds 4.5% customs duty and then 20% VAT bringing this €200.72 watch ( including €10 spring discount) to a total of around €251. Is this still a good buy or should I be looking at something else ? If anyone has been in a similar situation I’d appreciate your input. Regards
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. I am in Ireland so pay similar import tax, and VAT. I recommend you buy it from Watchdives, see link below. The price is 219 USD (210 Euro); however you can use the "WR4K" 10 USD discount code. Watchdives cover the SN017-G with a 3 year warranty, versus the standard 2 year San Martin warranty. Yes, this is still a good buy. Note they are selling the latest V3 version with updated 2-button clasp. I reviewed the V2. Regards, #WR4K watchdives.com/products/san-martin-ghost-mens-automatic-mechanical-watches
My San Martin 17 g has automatic 200 equals 660 ft and an s logo on the crown. I also have a completely different class with no fold over. Why is this model different? Do I have the newest model like they told me in the ad where I bought it?
Thank you for watching Jeffrey. Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. I reviewed this V2 in July 2021. After this review San Martin released the V3 you have, with updated 2-button clasp, and S crown. Yes, yours is the latest version. Regards, #WR4K
Thank you for watching David. Apologies, I had to delete your comment on my SN020 review as it said "San Martin Rolex Explorer". Please can you avoid using "Rolex Explorer" when commenting on my San Martin 020 Explorer homage review. Thank you for your understanding. Regards, #WR4K
I’ve been searching strenuously through UA-cam and your video library for the best Submariner homage and just when I think I found it, I find another one. Any chance you could help me out?
Hi John - do you think San Martin will ever head up or appoint someone to be a UK dealer to be a selling point for the watches . Kind of like steeldive UK who has the UK leg of their oversees outfit ? It would save lots of charges for customers and probably create more revenue for customers feeling better about buying within the UK . Just curious 🧐
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. The PT5000 is a better movement than the NH35A. Also the Glidelock clasp is better. I think the 41mm case with 21mm lugs looks better than 40mm and 20mm. The only thing I prefer on the SN017 is the white paint on the bezel, on the SN019 it is matte silver. Regards, #WR4K
Hi man, i got the green sn017 and I'm looking for a rubber strap with solid endlinks that will fit with this? Do you know any 3rd party seller? Thank you
Sorry to hear that. +60 seconds per day sounds like it is magnestised. I suggest you purchase a demagnetiser from Amazon and see if that cures it. If not it will need to be regulated. Regards, #WR4K
@@ih6901 I appreciate the suggestion, however I do not have time to do this. I discuss the comparisons in my SN019-G, and Cronos reviews. Regards, #WR4K
I received recently this time piece and I must tell you that I really love it, is already on my wrist for the 5th day in succession but I am a bit sceptical about the water resistance! Should I worry or is it truly resistant to 200 meters? Thank you for your had work and looking forward to seeing your future reviews! Regards
@@thegrumpyoldbusdriver Congratulations. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Yes, I can confirm San Martin test the watches to 200 metres water resistance. Regards, #WR4K
Seems you never tested the CRONOS Sub-Hom. How can it be better? I dont get it,but its ok. Ocean One operates with an 2824 mov. it cant be beaten by a Seiko NH35a.
Thank you for watching. "When I am considering reviewing a watch on my channel it should meet two criteria; being both excellent quality, and excellent value at the respective price point". I stated this as always, in my review. I also stated this is the best Submariner Date homage for 204 USD. The Chronos is more expensive. With regards to the Ocean One; see my Ocean One 39 Kermit review; both ETA 2824-2, and SW200-1 movements are used equally, so an Ocean One can have either. Of course an ETA 2824-2 is better than a NH35A; but one cannot buy a Submariner Date homage for 204 USD which is the price point of this SN017. Hence me saying it is the best Submariner Date homage for 204 USD. I will be reviewing the SN019 with SW200-1 soon, of course I expect the SN019 to be better than the SN017 as it uses a Glidelock style clasp, and the SW200-1 is better than the NH35A; but of course it is more expensive, not 204 USD. Regards, #WR4K
This is not a sub homage because of too many discrepancies with the original. First; the bracelet is totally different, it is too thick, the clasp is a simple push button design and no divers extension provided. The only coincidence is the oyster style links. Now with the watch head; it is thicker and bulkier, there are sharp edges and the lug endpoints are pointy sharp that can tear your skin. The bezel is too tight, it has very white bold numbers and is miss aligned with the 12 triangle dial mark and a totally different lume pit. The dial has creamy indices that do not match hands color. The cyclops is miss aligned and magnification is distorted. The inner chapter is too tall and distracting so makes the watch seem bulky. Conclusion is that this watch is no homage sub, it rather is a Chinese overpriced diver’s beater. If you want a very good sub homage get a Sugess Seaman for even less money. Delivery took too long (70 days) and seller provided false delivery warranty of 15 days, a dispute was opened but of course neither the seller nor aliexpress offered acceptable help but “wait for arrival” and “get a 1 dll cupon”, shame on both. Too much fuzz on San Martin watches, they are nothing but cheap copies of real watches. Waste of good money.
"This is not a sub homage because of too many discrepancies with the original." You are mistaken Eduardo. This piece is a Submariner Date homage. A homage isn't a 1:1 clone of the original. The design of the Rolex Submariner Date is trademarked by Rolex SA Geneva. Therefore producing a 1:1 copy of the design would infringe trademarks, and San Martin could be prosecuted by Rolex SA Geneva for trademark infringement. Regards, #WR4K
Thank you for watching Борис. This is a homage to the Submariner Date which also has a rehaut under the sapphire crystal. The Seiko NH35A dial size is 28.5mm, which is why a tapered rehault is needed between the sapphire crystal and dial. Regards, #WR4K
Steinhart is Swiss. The Steinhart movement is Swiss. The Seiko NH-35 is hardly comparable. San Martin is a nice watch, but price a San Martin with a Swiss movement. What happened, Steinhart didn’t send you a free watch?
Thank you for watching Tony. Steinhart do not send free watches to watch reviewers. Check out my Ocean One 39 Green, and Ocean 39 Marine Black reviews; they may interest you. Regards, #WR4K

I prefer the sword hand on the milsub as I find the Mercedes hand a cliché.. It's just a better watch in my opinion for other reasons also...
Got into watches recently and came across your channel. Amazing content!

Great review and quality video! I just purchased this watch and it is indeed beautiful. It is also losing only 2 seconds per day. Incredible!

Congratulations Lee. Excellent choice. Wear yours in good health. Regards, #WR4K

Do you think that the extra cost for the SN017G V3 is worth it over the PD1661, or what is the current best value for money Submariner homage? (I have a 16,5" wrist.)
Yes, its worth paying the extra for the SN017-G. Overall the quality is higher, with better lume and AR coating. Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k my word you are busy ! Ok understood but I look forward to your sn019 review 👍👍👌

Great vid, as usual ! Now to contemplate- This or an Ocean One 39!??
Thank you for watching Akshay. Glad you enjoyed it. This has a 2.5x magnification cyclops, and 6 micro adjustments in the clasp. Also it is 204 USD (173 Euro) versus 455 Euro. Personally I would choose the SN017. Regards, #WR4K
That clasp is exactly the same as now on the Steeldive.
Hi. Another great vid. San martin are great, but they need to sort their "logo" out. Looks high quality but cartoon-ish. Their cursive script "San Martin" explorer homage also seems odd to me.
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Regards, #WR4K

Regards, #WR4K

@@watchreviews4k I would just like to add an update. Having worn this for a week now I can further testify to just how excellent this watch is. The SN017-G is 100% the best Submariner Date homage money can buy, better than the SN019-G and PD1661.

"This is not a sub homage because of too many discrepancies with the original."
You are mistaken Eduardo.

There is a terrible steel ring above the dial. Why all the people can’t see this??? San Martin found smaller dials:((
Thank you for watching Борис. This is a homage to the Submariner Date which also has a rehaut under the sapphire crystal. The Seiko NH35A dial size is 28.5mm, which is why a tapered rehault is needed between the sapphire crystal and dial. Regards, #WR4K
