What`s the furthest you have driven after an old vehicle purchase? Did you have any dramas along the way?

Hey mate, you can test the rear window switch in the centre console by unplugging the switch and jumpering the terminals. If you get the window to work, it's likely that the switch just needs a good clean as it will have 35 years of lint, dust and crap all down in there. While the switch assembly can be prised apart, it's best not to as you're likely to snap something (brittle). What I did is take my switch out, spray it liberally with electrical contact cleaner, and then rock the switch back and forth for like 10 minutes, then I held it upside down and spray rinsed it with more contact cleaner. Give it the old windmill at arms length to remove the excess cleaner and let it dry. I did that about 3 years ago and mine has been working great ever since.

@@wheelbarrow01 thanks mate, I plan to go through and clean every switch and contact etc. Like you said there is probably 36 years of dust and crap in all the nooks and crannies 👍

Those drip rail covers and the adhesive shown in the video appear to be factory. My JDM Hilux Surf imported to NZ from Japan has the same ones, except mine are chrome (and falling apart).

That would've been a hellish trip, those things are so slow and uncomfortable

@@MAC10JONES It is actually surprisingly comfortable to drive now the steering is fixed. Obviously not by new car standards but being IFS and With cruise control it was quite nice to drive. It would have happily sat on 110kph as well if it didn’t lose the overdrive gear. I was really pleasantly surprised 👍

You’ve obviously never owned one… I had an 84 model 4Runner with the leaf sprung front and it was quite comfy, slowed up a bit on steeper hills but got along ok at speed limits, a hell of a lot more comfy than my 1976 HJ45 Cruiser.

@@absinth64 yeah they are actually very comfortable. Once I sort the auto out, with cruise control this thing was a dream to drive. And the best part was being able to roll a sleeping bag out in the back when I needed a sleep. 👍

@@MAC10JONES Not really, I’ve had 2 Nissan Patrols, a CJ5 Jeep, 2 Range Rovers and yes, a few Toyotas. My favorite was the Range Rover, hands down the best for power and comfort. Comparing vehicles like for like and same year of manufacture most of them are pretty much the same. The Hilux range although for many years underpowered were a big step up in comfort from Patrols, Landcruisers, Jeeps and (cough) Landrovers of the time.
