    Good that you’re rebuilding it before it blows up, it’s surly worth saving

    Those were essentially 2 11 hp B&S mated. Had a very poor oiling system (dipper). Don't run those over 15° from level. Done a few of those.

      @NubsWithGuns You'll find it's a poorly designed engine. Kohler had an opposed twin before B&S did & it used a gear driven pump. Use a B&S twin on slopes & hillsides & see what you'll get. As for the 1st part of your reply I fully agree.

      @@darrellepickering8433 I have a ~30* hill that tips the engine toward the right side. I've had it like that 8 years without problems. Only here because the engine is ~25 years old and could probably do with a rebuild.

      @SalientDebate verticle or horizontal motor? Verticles had a slinger, horizontals only had a single dipper & it was only on 1 rod. If those were used on slopes with much of an angle whether it be side to side or up/down oil starvation could happen.

    Hello, thank you for your video. I am just getting into small engines. I’ve never known anything about them till I came upon a used non working mini bike I got for my son. Luckily it just needed a carb clean, but got me hooked on small motors. I recently found an old opposing valve 18 hp Briggs that was thrown away and then found your video. The project will be a step up from the predators I’ve been messing with but I want to see that big motor running again. Where did you find the replacement stuff, and how much did the new parts cost?

      I got the parts from eBay the parts cost about $150 for the all the parts I got for this engine but you can get a full rebuild kit for it now that comes with everything including the valves and pistons for about $225 I think. Thanks for watching

    22:53 Can I flush that out with Kerosene where the valve stems are without having to take any other parts off (besides the carb and air intake manifold)? Where would that drain out to? (I have dirty rain water/mud in that section) Would you suggest me taking the cylinder head cover off and flush it through the valve openings while hand spinning the engine? Thanks.
    I've fixed/replaced everything else on my rebuild and only have this problem left. I appreciate the video and your time! Thank you.

      @rescuerestorerepeat8500  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes I would suggest taking the cylinder heads off and flush it through the the valve openings and if you don't take the heads off it should drain into the crankcase so I would also suggest changing the oil when you are done

      You should be able to Google it and check but it should be .020 on the points and .025 for the spark plug gap

    What year did they go with new style Rods? Looking at buying a 1997 engine.

    I am currently working on an 18hp opposed twin engine. Do these engines have a compression release in them? I haven't found any indication anywhere that they do. Thanks for your kind answer. I have installed dual carburetors along with the dual exhaust on mine, but have been having issues with exhaust coming back through the carburetors. I am in process of adjusting the valves right now and have found that they are way out of adjustment.

    Is that just a straight pipe or do you have mufflers in-between
