I would like to know about failed epidural/ epidural not working fully.. or what it should be like with an working epidural. i had my baby 3 months ago and i feel mine didnt work correctly ( she was 10lb)
I thought from seeing birth vlogs where they get epidurals and seem so calm and easy even while pushing.. barely breaking a sweat. for me i still felt such intense pressure i could not relax. And the burning. I also was breathing in the gas and it was still SO difficult and intense. It was not at all what i expected. And I was so weak after and felt faint. I looked like a wreck. I was not calm and smooth like in birth vlogs with epidural. the whole birth experience was not so good alot went wrong( first our hospital was too full for me) and baby had complications too :/ we stayed in neo natal ward for a week after birth.

But sent me home. I am definitely going to eat before I go to hospital again. I am not going to be starving the entire time and be forced into a c section. What type of tourture is that!

This is nice to know. I've had start and stop contractions for a long time now and I've been fluctuating between being nauseous and ravenous, avoiding food and stuffing my face. Having food has been helping me have contractions, which then make me nauseous with pain, at which point I stop eating and contracting. I guess I'll have to find a better balance and make good food choices when I can eat.

I labored, didn't get anything to eat, and 20 hours later I had no strength to keep going. All they would give me is sugar water, which only made me feel sick. For the most part I'm loving the policies of the hospital I'm giving birth at. They work with you to create a birth plan, support varying comfort techniques during labor, allow for different pushing positions, etc. The ONLY thing I have an issue with is that they do not allow eating or drinking once you are in the hospital in labor. Not even water/clear fluids. They will give you ice chips, and that's it. They do recommend laboring at home for as long as possible, which is my intention. If I'm in labor in the room and I'm hungry and lacking energy, I may take a few bites of a snack from my bag when they're not in the room. I need the energy to get through labor, which is hard work!

But my water had broken and we went to the hospital...I was admitted and in general were waiting to see if labour started naturally or if they needed to induce me. It was near supper time and I kept asking if I could eat? One nurse finally said I could eat a small meal. So I had some soup. It tasted great. Shortly after this my contractions started. And then my hospital supper arrived, by then I was like no thank you I don’t want any food...for me I think it was listening to my body. I felt great after eating and it didn’t cause me to throw up. Possibly they didn’t want me to eat incase i needed a c section? Not sure. But my opinion is if your hungry eat or drink a bit at a time. But yes also talk to those in your care.

It was torture when they wouldn't let me drink in the hospital during labor. I was exhausted and dehydrated. I'll never forget chuggign that sprite after I had my baby. My damned husband ratted me out over my snacks to the nurse! lol....ultimately working a 12 hr shift and being totally exhausted/dehydrated is why I failed the 2nd attempt at a natural labor. Trying again for the 3rd bebe!

It was the most strenuous workout of my life. I ate some spicy eggplant casserole the night before I got the contractions and went into labor. It was 10 hours long and I had a vaginal birth. Unfortunately I had a SCAD heart attack towards the end of it and ended up on the 🫀 cardiology unit directly after my birth while my daughter was separated to the nursery.

Bridget! I’m so happy I came across your channel, I’m currently 28 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby and your videos have helped me out so much. I’ve learned a lot so far! One thing I’m worried about is that my iron is low, I’m taking iron pills but I’d like to know what else can I do to avoid anemia?

    • @laurenswift9368

Eat iron rich foods- meats, fortified grains, dark leafy greens. Take your iron pill with vitamin c (supplement or fruit like oranges) for better absorption. Avoid tannins (coffee and tea), foods with calcium, and acid reflux medications close to when you are eating iron or taking iron supplements because they hinder absorption. That being said, even with all of my efforts, I still tend to run low in iron during my pregnancies

Did having low iron affect your labor and delivery in any way? I was told I have low iron and recommended to have a blood transfusion but I am against having this done. Any advice? I am doing the foods you mentioned.

Hi Ana! I'm a first time mom too and had the exact same fears. The important thing is to educate yourself on birth because this takes away the fear of giving birth. I know it's difficult especially when most people speak negatively about birth but really try to focus on the positive... every contraction brings me closer to my baby... breathe... 77% of labour is actually pain free. The size of your baby doesn't impact your birth. Bridgets videos are a great source. If you can, buy a book called "the positive birth book" by milli hill, this book was my saving grace. Good luck mama and remember your body was made to birth your baby, it will do everything it needs to do to bring your baby into this world.

My first baby was almost 4kg and I had 0 tearing! The nurses were amazing stretching me as I was in the pushing stage. I think it also helps that I pushed for about 1.5 hours. Slow and steady which also helped to stretch as she came down!

Hi, Paramedic here. Your baby is in the "OP" "Occiput Posterior" or "Sunny side up" position. Babies can still be born safely and vaginally in this position (usually with assistance from a Doctor), but most will rotate into the correct position during labour. Babies can also be born with the umbilical cord wrapped slightly around the neck - if safe to do so your midwife will simply slip it over the head once the head is delivered.

The bottom line consult your doctor and don't make uninformed decisions on your own. Be careful and beware of information you dig up online. Don't put yourself in any unnecessary risk.

Don’t eat during labor, you will risk your life if you need emergency surgery
