The choppiness of Burton Bird felt just like an AMOS game so I looked it up, and sure enough, it was made in AMOS and seems to be fairly well regarded as far as those games go. I programmed in AMOS for years but that choppy feeling always put me off and I never finished making any of those games.
Yeah its weird and in many games I think it would have totally ruined the game but like i say it just works....horrible game to watch, great game to play.
@@oldstylegaming Yeah, that's the way to work with limited tools like AMOS, the developers need to figure out what works well with them and go with the flow. I was trying to make a big Autoduel style game with big maps and the stuttering scrolling just put me off there.
Just getting back into AMOS via WinUAE have my Octamed for music DPaint for sprites and backgrounds and a copy of AMOS Pro with the manual in PDF ready to make a new game.
One which I played a LOT of, but seems too obscure to even find, is Bounceroids (I think that was the name). It was a HIRES Interlaced 640x400 game, which IIRC was white on red. The graphics were all in a standard IFF file you could edit in Deluxe Paint, so I customized my own graphics with a skull and bones theme. Unlike normal asteroids, stuff bounced off the borders, thus the name. My favorite strategy was to hang out at a corner, and bounce my shots at an angle to one of the nearby walls to get a good chance of taking out the various asteroids. It had a glass shattering sound effect when you hit an asteroid, which is what inspired me to customize it with a skull and bones theme. There was another asteroids type game which I played a lot of, but it didn't have customizable graphics ... just the default wireframe style graphics. I can't remember the name of this one at all. It was also HIRES laced 640x400, one bitplane deep. The great thing about it was the massive firepower you could get. You could just spam wide swathes of the screen with double bullets. One of the more unusual enemies was an alien UFO that didn't actually shoot at you. Instead it has a sort of reverse tractor beam effect that could push you into an asteroid if you weren't careful. IIRC, it wasn't a very dangerous enemy compared to the more normal ones that shot at you. But I can't remember the title of this one at all! I doubt it started with B, probably.
@@oldstylegaming Good luck, and let me know if you find anything - I can't find anything about it anywhere! There's a good chance that I'm simply not remembering the name of the game correctly, and this has stymied my attempts to search out any info about it. I'm pretty sure it was Public Domain, or freeware, or maybe shareware.
I had honestly never heard of many of them, I think because they came out when I no longer had Amiga (I sold it in 1993). I would have also included Balance of Power, Black Gold, Black Sect, Bio Challenge, and Blastar, which I don't recall being very popular at the time of their release.
Excellent video mate ! Bumpy and Burntime are two much played games for me my 3 boys. Battle duel looks like a extremely polished update for a Public Domain game we used to play. I can’t remember the name though. Maybe…………………..Tanx? No? Anyway , Bloodfest looks really interesting. Be good.
Thanks again OSG. I have to admit, I haven't got any of this games on my mind from back in the days. Especially Blobz has to be checked out today when I'm off work! Carry on dude!
Some very good recommendations and most of them I haven't heard of. I knew of Bargon Attack, but I never played it. Burntime, on the other hand is amazing game and I'm sure that fans of Fallout and Wasteland will like this game as well. I highly recommend it as well. Battle Duel, while I never played it, reminds me a bit on Amiga PD game called Tanx.
Hope you and yours had a greax Christmas and new year buddy. Cracking list buddy and a few of these am going to give ago as i have 4220 WHD games to have a go at on my mini yeah some of them are upgrades of the same game but it's cool to see what changes they make. Looking forward to the letter C so bring it on, so until then take it easy 🙂
Never heard of any of these, which is the point of the video I suppose? Stands outs for me is Bargon Attack, like a good adventure, that Battle duel looks just like a game I used to play with a friend, sure it was called Tanx? It was freeware/PD, great fun :)
Yeah actual gameplay wise its similar but the platforms are all there for you, you just have to figure out best path to the end, you should play it mate its a good game. Gets pretty hard after a bit though
Fs-uae is a great emulator. You can also download amiga live (google that) and play a wide range of amiga games for free on there...and also play multiplayer over the net
Its just a bit like bomberman but you can drop different weapons/bombs depending on which way you press the joystick and fire. Have a go its pretty good
So i use my full adf romset, pick games i dont really know or hear of much and check them on lemon for scores and votes. I generally dont use anything with votes more than 20, i then go off and play all the shortlist about 25 per video and whittle them dow to 10, if I'm struggling for 10 good games i use hall of light and any what catch my eye i load up and try.
I heard you've been taking so long to do updates because you've been non-stop playing Amstrad games, which you secretly feel are the superior games ;) :D
looks like most of them are unknown for good reason. One of the few little compilation vids of yours where absolutely nothing looks remotely interesting to me at all

@@8_Bit breed 96 and bloodfest on this list are also in Amos but due to the slower nature of the game its less apparent

I only got my Amiga about two months ago so these videos are great for me. I binge the C64 ones every couple of months, too. Love it.

man they really are hidden gems because I never heard of any of them....excellent find!
Only 240 more to find.....
Kind of glad they didn't put music in Bloodfest. The white noise that plays in the background adds to the game's atmosphere

I always loved base jumpers, great laugh none of my mates had ever heard of it

I remember buying bug bomber for 99p in the bargain bin and was surprised how good it was. I am sure I still have the original box
I remember playing a demo of this on the C64. I took this as a more strategic Dyna Blaster.
Great video, love the series. Thank you for creating it!
been a while, happy to see you back
yeah needed to recharge
Thanks again OSG. I have to admit, I haven't got any of this games on my mind from back in the days. Especially Blobz has to be checked out today when I'm off work! Carry on dude!

You mentioned dune II i remember that one I love strategy...it was a hard that one as well.
The tank game hidden looks like a game I had for the Amiga called Tanx. Sure that was the name and it was free on a magazine

What about Bi-Planes? A fun little PD game that I still often play
its a bit too well known, I might put Dog Fight in on D though and thats very similar and great
@@oldstylegaming Hmm.. Not heard of Dog Fight, will check out D when you make it and try the game out :)
Another great roundup of hidden gems, Burntime maybe being the best one.
Happy New Year mate, I'm following this series with great interest!
Happy New Year Robin..... i might even do a numbers episode this time
Brilliant site very enjoyable keep it up....

I was worried people would think they weren't hidden
@@oldstylegaming Well I suppose they ain't gonna be for everyone m8 but well done so far digging these up :)
Blobz is class and so is the music
Love it.. haven't played any of them 👍🏻
Thanks for another great video
How do you play that Bumpy game? It looks like Bill's Tomato Game from the video.
Yeah actual gameplay wise its similar but the platforms are all there for you, you just have to figure out best path to the end, you should play it mate its a good game. Gets pretty hard after a bit though
Bargon Attack was released in Spain and France, so it's less well known in the UK.
there are a few great foreign games that need to be translated
Fond memories of Burntime.
Only one of these games, on 1999, yet looking at the graphics, Im starting to wonder if I'm born in the late 1600 century
Burntime is quite well known around here, i think...
Great Vid as usual OSG, you are a master of editing. Can you do mine for me?
yeah you know im doing yours now...get them recognition points submitted hahaha
Very nice 👍
Here's some kind of obscure: BabeAnoid by Richard Fhager.
Yeah Ive covered Babenoid in a pd video, great game
Played Burntime on PC. Very complicated!
Excellent
Do you play these on an actual Amiga or emulation? I ask because I don't have my Amiga anymore. Can you recommend a good Amiga emulator?
Fs-uae is a great emulator. You can also download amiga live (google that) and play a wide range of amiga games for free on there...and also play multiplayer over the net
What do you do in Bug Bomber ?
Its just a bit like bomberman but you can drop different weapons/bombs depending on which way you press the joystick and fire. Have a go its pretty good
