+First Last Unfortunately you're wrong; Michael Jackson composed a fair amount of the music, he just wasn't pleased with the sound quality the Genesis was capable of so he had his name taken out of the composer credits. I don't think he realised quite how it'd sound, despite it sounding great to us kids ;)
+First Last But composing for video games was still an emerging field, at the time - it's possible he was working with (higher quality) MIDI in the studio and didn't like how it translated to the Genesis' sound engine. I know it used to put me off when I'd work on something in Sibelius 3 and gave someone else the MIDI, and it would sound awful on their audio engine. The Jackson family wrote, practiced, and performed music; they didn't sit in a MIDI-oriented soundscape like video game composers did. Also, MJ was a bit mental. (But I loved his stuff! and I LOVE Sonic 3's soundtrack!)
***** 3D Blast on Saturn Soundtrack was amazing!!! Actually Sonic 1,2,3, and 3D Blast OST awesomes!!! Just crazy that the guy who did Head Hunter 1 and 2, Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 also did 3D Blast OST on Saturn! Awesome stuffs
1:14:34 still holds up today, mega epic drum beat ❤️ bless you Michael Jackson and your producers, misunderstood human being with a tragic life but gave us so many gifts to enjoy even after death
@@danieldiggs9574 that track is actually a sonic 3 "exclusive" track. it's playable in SNK3 and Knuckles but only from the Sound Test, and as a Glitch in Hydrocity; which is presumably why it's included here.
For the uninitiated, Michael Jackson and his team worked on, in order of appearance, Knuckles’ Theme and the Mini Boss theme from Sonic 3 (Blood on the Dance Floor), Carnival Night Zone (Jam), Ice Cap Zone (The Jetzons-Hard Times), Launch Base Zone, Big Arm Boss fight (based off the 2nd half of the Sonic 3 credits music), and the Sonic 3 credits theme (Stranger in Moscow). Everything else, along with Sonic and Knuckles, was made by other people.
@@HectorGonzalez-qx9nk indeed it was not micheal jackson who made this song but if i'm not mistaken it was produced by a guy who was also micheal jackson's producer along side the artist who made Hard Times, so maybe the feel of the song might sound a bit similar to micheal jackson because of the style of that producer, i guess

Shadane There’s a good reason for that, it’s because you have a mere few seconds to input that command properly and half the frames during that time don’t qualify, and will invalidate the whole command if you press a button on them. It’s extremely difficult, if not impossible, and I’ve never seen anyone pull it off properly.

Yup... they also added some of those stages and new ones to Sonic Mania. I eventually got through all the ones on Sonic 3... but haven't with Sonic Mania.
The sense of discovery during those times playing these awesome games... pure and raw wonder during simpler, less complicated times. The wide, expanding feeling of real wonder and feeling the rush of life while we were more free... I'm 31 now, and I'll still remember this game even when I'm 61 or 91; such precious childhood memories stay in the golden archives of my brain. Bless you all dear sonic fans.
After researching this soundtrack and its varying styles, I have compiled a list of predictions about who in the S3 sound team did what. It might not be as accurate as SEGA (or fan interactions) only ever confirmed the composer for a few of these tracks -- those ones will be labelled with a checkmark. 0:00 - Sonic 3 Title Screen Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ 0:16 - Sonic & Knuckles Title Screen Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- Masaru Setsumaru programmed and rearranged Drossin's idea. 0:33 - Options Screen / Save State Screen Composer: Masayuki Nagao (it's this Latino vibe that gets reused in several other tracks in this soundtrack -- you will see the pattern) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru ✔ 51:17 - Stage Clear Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ (reused in Sonic 3D Blast (and future Sonic games), with Senoue receiving credit in the game's data) 51:22 - Knuckles Theme Composer: Brad Buxer ✔ 52:40 - Knuckles Theme II Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- once again, Masaru Setsumaru programmed and rearranged it. 53:19 - Bonus Stage (Gumball Machine) Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ -- appears as an unused track in Sonic 3D Blast, with Jon Burton (the dev of Sonic 3D Blast) confirming it is Senoue's composition. 54:28 - Bonus Stage (Electric Spheres) Composer: Miyoko Takaoka (resembles Marble Garden, though this could simply be because the same sound programmer worked on this track) 56:18 - Bonus Stage (Slot Machine) Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ -- appears as an unused track in Sonic 3D Blast, with Jon Burton (the dev of Sonic 3D Blast) confirming it is Senoue's composition. 58:01 - Special Stage (3D Spheres) Composer: Yoshiaki Kashima ✔ -- confirmed by him through a fan's email in 2001, and an old archived site has an official demo MIDI of this theme posted by Kashima himself) 1:00:25 - Chaos Emerald Composer: Yukifumi Makino ✔ 1:00:28 - Invincibility, Super Sonic (Sonic 3 Only) Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ -- confirmed in 2015 through himself via SoundCloud 1:01:10 - Invulnerability, Super / Hyper Sonic (S3&K Only) Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- Masaru Setsumaru did the programming. 1:01:43 - Extra Life (Sonic 3 Only) Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ -- Masaru Sestumaru also did the programming for this one. 1:01:46 - Extra Life (S3&K Only) Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ -- Masaru Sestumaru also did the programming for this one. 1:01:50 - Extra Continue Composer: Yukifumi Makino ✔ 1:01:54 - Competition Menu Composer: MJ Team (an unknown specific composer) was never used in future Sonic games, and it replaced the proto competition menu theme. 1:03:34 - Azure Lake Composer: Masanori Hikichi (these specific "saw leads" and bass patch are part of the CUBE sound driver. An anime-themed game called "Advanced Busterhawk" uses these particular sounds, and Hikichi had involved in composing some of the tracks for that soundtrack. This fast-paced style is prominent in Hikichi's compositions) 1:05:33 - Balloon Park Composer: Jun Senoue (a Sonic Generations album confirms this) ✔ Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru 1:07:29 - Chrome Gadget Composer: Masayuki Nagao (as you will see soon, Nagao confirmed to a fan around 2013 that Hydrocity Act 2 was his composition, and this theme contains tons of similarities to it) 1:09:42 - Desert Palace Composer: Masayuki Nagao (Nagao confirmed to a fan around 2013 that Hydrocity Act 2 was his composition, and this theme contains many similarities) 1:11:23 - Endless Mine Composer: Masanori Hikichi Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru 1:13:30 - Continue Screen / Incompatible Lockon Game / Blue Spheres Game ✔ Composer: Jun Senoue 1:14:14 - Drown Timer Composer: Yukifumi Makino ✔ 1:14:26 - Time Over / Game Over Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ 1:14:34 - Mini-Boss (Sonic 3 Only) Composer: Brad Buxer ✔ 1:16:48 - Mini-Boss (S3&K Only) Composer: Masanori Hikichi 1:17:53 - Stage Boss (Robotnik / Egg Robo) Composer: Masanori Hikichi 1:19:08 - Final Boss (Kyodai Eggman Robo for Sonic and Tails, Metal Sonic for Knuckles) Composer: Masanori Hikichi 1:21:00 - Game Complete (Sonic 3 Only) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru ✔ 1:21:11 - Credit Roll (Sonic 3 Only) Composer: Brad Buxer ✔ 1:24:38 - Game Complete II (S3&K Only) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru ✔ 1:24:47 - Credit Roll II (S3&K Only) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru ✔ Sonic 3 Sound Track: 2:43 - Angel Island Act 1 Composer: Masayuki Nagao Arranger: Masayuki Nagao (possibly) 5:07 - Angel Island Act 2 Arranger: Masayuki Nagao (it resembles Hydrocity Act 2's composition to a degree) 7:26 - Hydrocity Act 1 Composer: Tatsuyuki Maeda (this one is another highly rough guess. It does sound quite like Rusty Ruin Act 1 and Act 2 from the Genesis 3D Blast, with the act 1 theme even reusing two similar "instruments," but most of the sound programming and mixing techniques sound nothing like Maeda's) Arranger: Masayuki Nagao (possibly) 9:32 - Hydrocity Act 2 Composer/Arranger: Masayuki Nagao ✔ (confirmed to a fan back in 2013 -- I am pretty sure many of you are pleased to hear that the composer of this track is known) 11:27 - Marble Garden Act 1 Composer: Miyoko Takaoka ✔ (confirmed by herself in 2014, and a recent official Sonic stream in 2020 played this theme and gave credit to Takaoka for it) 13:37 - Marble Garden Act 2 Composer: Miyoko Takaoka ✔ 15:47 - Carnival Night Act 1 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer) 18:10 - Carnival Night Act 2 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer) 20:32 - Ice Cap Act 1 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer; it is believed to be Brad Buxer, but he did not compose the original "Hard Times" theme) 23:47 - Ice Cap Act 2 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer) 27:01 - Launch Base Act 1 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer) 29:12 - Launch Base Act 2 Composer: MJ team (an unknown specific composer) Sonic and Knuckles Sound Track: 31:21 - Mushroom Hill Act 1 Composer: Tatsuyuki Maeda (it does have these rising arps and has a similar feel to Rusty Ruin) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru (it's these surreal, custom patches that indicate Sestaumaru did them) 32:59 - Mushroom Hill Act 2 Composer: Tatsuyuki Maeda (it does have these rising arps and has a similar feel to Rusty Ruin) Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru (it's these surreal, custom patches that indicate Sestaumaru did them) 34:31 - Flying Battery Act 1 Composer: Masanori Hikichi (it's bewildering how this track is essentially "re-purposed" here. "Stage 5 & Cutscene Theme" from Advanced Busterhawk uses the EXACT same instrumentation, is in the same key, and shares similar compositional techniques such as a frantic bassline and quick glissandos.) I remember one could rent the whole Sega console and this game from the local video store when I was around 8 years old, in 1998, so ofc we did, more than once. The music gives me the almost supernatural feeling of nostalgia!! Thank you so much for the upload :')
Greatest Sonic game ever made, no question. Hell, it might even be the best game ever made to some, and can you blame them? Incredible level design, three playable characters each with their own unique abilities, fantastic storytelling especially from a platformer from '94, super fun and addicting gameplay, the best special stages in the entire series, incredible soundtrack, a fun multiplayer mode, the introduction of the super emeralds, and so much more. Sonic Team's magnum opus for sure.
thevividyoshi I honestly believe Generations is better than Sonic 1 or CD. Sure, the writing could be better, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.
When you look back at how Knuckles started out, being a guardian of the Master Emerald who was able to constantly outwit Sonic and Tails with his traps, I really have no idea how the hell he ended up being the way he is in Sonic Boom. Out of all the redesigned characters I think he is definitely the one they botched the most.
44:09 It's difficult to find the right words as to what this track means to me. I played this game so much & I absolutely loved hearing this track. I remember back before we could really record freely, I would place a really basic recorder next to my TV & snatch that tune. I'd play it as I fell asleep, wrapped up in my blankets before going to school the next morning. Simpler times. Appreciate the upload mate.
No he didn't, do your research. He did some work but later on Sega found out he was invlovled in harassment so he had to leave, and Sega themselves even said the music in he final copy of the game is different. Just because at some point he was involved in osmethign to do with the game doesn't mean it made it to he final versiob
Nichita Bailuc -_- Actually, your story is true. but there's one mistake. It wasn't for the harassment, it was because he didn't like the sound of his music on the 16-bit Sega Genesis.
Fyre Onix no, it was both, but if he didnt like the genesis sound WHY THE HELL DID HE HAVE A GENESIS GAME FOR HIM? this leaves us to the other option which is true, he did harass individuals who are rich as fuck for suing them
witesand Michael Jackson's people did help with the Sonic 3 soundtrack, and yes while the final credits and "Stranger in Moscow" are directly related Stranger in Moscow came after Sonic 3. It seems after Michael distanced himself from the project he went on to use the assets his team help create for the game.
I wouldn't say it's underrated, even when people hate games from the franchise they'll often say something like "The music is the only thing holding this game up"
51:22 Knuckles theme. Really going for that swaggy lo-fi break beat electro sound that would fit perfectly on any underground basement dance floor today!
Not realizing that you only had to hold up and down to move it and not jumping... like logic in video games had us do multiple times. Yes, beating that level years later I was dreading it then laughed at how stupid it was.
ZomIIXC I did the exact same thing, I passed that f*ck*ng part several years later, leaving the game uncompleted during my childhood. I finally played those 2 last levels (Icecap and the other) as a man, not as a boy anymore. In fact, I think beating that part of Carnival Night turned me from boy to man in a way no other situation did
One of the Greatest VideoGame Soundtracks ever made. it’s outstanding variety of excellent music with some being made by the king of pop really makes this game truly a Masterpiece!!
Even though Sonic 2 was the very first game of the series I ever played as a kid, S3&K will always be the most nostalgic to me. Literally all the themes are extremely catchy and memorable. Idk, I guess I just liked it more than Sonic 2 as well
To this day, it's quite possibly the best Sonic game ever. Edit: My opinions changed since I made this comment. I think Adventure 2 is actually the best Sonic game now.
I'm 24. I grew up on these games. My parents thought the new consoles were too addicting and wouldn't buy me a PS2 until the end of its generation. I loved this game and have so many childhood memories from it. My brother and I fought over the controller once and deleted all the chaos emerald save-files. RIP super sonic. Learned a life lesson that day about anger management that day.
my mother smashed the Megadrive for the same reason - fighting over who gets to play sonic ; literally picked up the console and destroyed it in front of us. I feel your pain
This is one of the few soundtracks in which there's not a single song I dislike. They're all really good and awesome. Props to Brad Buxer, Howard Drossin and their respective sound teams.
+Eloir Troyack Both systems have some of the best soundtracks in videogame history. I do really like the grungier sound of the genesis games. But there's no denying games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy (series) have incredible soundtracks as well.
I grew up to this man, literally...i can't tell you how many hours i poured into S3&K as a kid. Even till this day 24 years later it's still one of my favorite games of all time and i regularly play it.

In all honesty, I discovered this soundtrack this year, took a while for me go get used to it, and now I love it. Your childhood doesn't really matter.
Ok, so I just purchased it. I am not as hardcore of a gamer as I use to be when I was younger(although I still love gaming). I had completely given up on the sonic games for a long time so I didn't even know this existed. Just from the 30 minutes that I have played so far, I can honestly tell you that you just might be onto something. "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" has a special place in my heart - the epic story, the levels, the music, the characters. It was and always will be one of the top games of all time in my book. But I can tell just from the little I have played of "Sonics Mania" so far it too just might become one of my favorite games of all time perhaps even surpassing "Sonic 3 & Knuckles". So far it's doing EVERYTHING RIGHT! WHO IS BEHIND THIS GAME and why wasn't he/she helping make the sonic adventure games and all the ones after?! This person really gets it!
49:12 Makes me think "Oh crap, this just got a lot worse real fast. I must be insane for trying to stop him...but I've got to try. I'm running out of time to save the world!"
+OrangeKyle91 Yeah it's funny how the music can sort of tell a story, when Robotnik shows up you get this vibe like he's an evil madman who must be stopped, but these days they portray him as a bumbling comical fool, I don't like it, Robotnik should always be a sinister villain.
Confession! When I first played this and reached the Ice Cap Act 1 level, I got hooked on to the background song that literally I would not pass that level and I would leave the character sonic just standing so I can enjoy the song. I got so upset when a friend of mine came over one time and played it and passed it. So you can guess how happy I am that I found this! This sure brings back those good memories!
@@noname-jt6kl I didn't even know you can do that. I was like 8 or something so like I didn't know any better. It's all right, though, thanks to the internet I can find all my favorite songs!

The Jackson family wrote, practiced, and performed music; they didn't sit in a MIDI-oriented soundscape like video game composers did. Also, MJ was a bit mental. (But I loved his stuff! and I LOVE Sonic 3's soundtrack!)
Funny how 2D Sonic's always had funky electronic music but the 3D ones had aggressive rock music

@@danieldiggs9574 that track is actually a sonic 3 "exclusive" track. it's playable in SNK3 and Knuckles but only from the Sound Test, and as a Glitch in Hydrocity; which is presumably why it's included here.
Michael Jackson - He touched our hearts, and our kids.
@@benperch_tvnah he didn't "touch kids", unlike other celebs in the epstein documents
The final boss theme wasn't made by Michael Jackson or his team
Ice Cap Zone is more similar to Smooth Criminal. The bass lines are identical. Also, doesn't Azure Lake sound similar to Black or White?
@@ExplorerDS6789 Ice Cap Zone is confirmed to be Hard Times, it has no relation to an MJ song.
Okay, but listen to Azure Lake and tell me that doesn't sound exactly like Black or White.

After researching this soundtrack and its varying styles, I have compiled a list of predictions about who in the S3 sound team did what. It might not be as accurate as SEGA (or fan interactions) only ever confirmed the composer for a few of these tracks -- those ones will be labelled with a checkmark.
0:00 - Sonic 3 Title Screen
Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔
0:16 - Sonic & Knuckles Title Screen
Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- Masaru Setsumaru programmed and rearranged Drossin's idea.
0:33 - Options Screen / Save State Screen
Composer: Masayuki Nagao (it's this Latino vibe that gets reused in several other tracks in this soundtrack -- you will see the pattern)
Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru ✔
51:17 - Stage Clear
Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ (reused in Sonic 3D Blast (and future Sonic games), with Senoue receiving credit in the game's data)
51:22 - Knuckles Theme
Composer: Brad Buxer ✔
52:40 - Knuckles Theme II
Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- once again, Masaru Setsumaru programmed and rearranged it.
53:19 - Bonus Stage (Gumball Machine)
Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ -- appears as an unused track in Sonic 3D Blast, with Jon Burton (the dev of Sonic 3D Blast) confirming it is Senoue's composition.
54:28 - Bonus Stage (Electric Spheres)
Composer: Miyoko Takaoka (resembles Marble Garden, though this could simply be because the same sound programmer worked on this track)
56:18 - Bonus Stage (Slot Machine)
Composer: Jun Senoue ✔ -- appears as an unused track in Sonic 3D Blast, with Jon Burton (the dev of Sonic 3D Blast) confirming it is Senoue's composition.
58:01 - Special Stage (3D Spheres)
Composer: Yoshiaki Kashima ✔ -- confirmed by him through a fan's email in 2001, and an old archived site has an official demo MIDI of this theme posted by Kashima himself)
1:00:25 - Chaos Emerald
Composer: Yukifumi Makino ✔
1:00:28 - Invincibility, Super Sonic (Sonic 3 Only)
Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ -- confirmed in 2015 through himself via SoundCloud
1:01:10 - Invulnerability, Super / Hyper Sonic (S3&K Only)
Composer: Howard Drossin ✔ -- Masaru Setsumaru did the programming.
1:01:43 - Extra Life (Sonic 3 Only)
Composer: Tomonori Sawada ✔ -- Masaru Sestumaru also did the programming for this one.

Composer: MJ Team (an unknown specific composer) was never used in future Sonic games, and it replaced the proto competition menu theme.

Composer: Masanori Hikichi (these specific "saw leads" and bass patch are part of the CUBE sound driver. An anime-themed game called "Advanced Busterhawk" uses these particular sounds, and Hikichi had involved in composing some of the tracks for that soundtrack. This fast-paced style is prominent in Hikichi's compositions)
1:05:33 - Balloon Park
Composer: Jun Senoue (a Sonic Generations album confirms this) ✔
Arranger: Masaru Setsumaru
1:07:29 - Chrome Gadget
Composer: Masayuki Nagao (as you will see soon, Nagao confirmed to a fan around 2013 that Hydrocity Act 2 was his composition, and this theme contains tons of similarities to it)
1:09:42 - Desert Palace
Composer: Masayuki Nagao (Nagao confirmed to a fan around 2013 that Hydrocity Act 2 was his composition, and this theme contains many similarities)

***** This was the last good game that SEGA made, in my opinion.
I meant just Sonic games, yeah. I've never played Generations, so I'm not sure how good it is.
thevividyoshi I honestly believe Generations is better than Sonic 1 or CD. Sure, the writing could be better, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.
***** You forgot to mention multiple endings?
***** Oh my gosh. You are the best person ever. No doubt about it.
When you look back at how Knuckles started out, being a guardian of the Master Emerald who was able to constantly outwit Sonic and Tails with his traps, I really have no idea how the hell he ended up being the way he is in Sonic Boom. Out of all the redesigned characters I think he is definitely the one they botched the most.
they fucked him up pretty bad:/ made me angry and sad
agreed
are you sure it isn't when eggman zapped him in hidden palace
Homero Araujo Getting zapped damaged his brain? That would make sense I guess, lol
Knuckles has been botched the worst ever since his incredible debut in S3 & K. Just completely mishandled altogether ever since.

It's difficult to find the right words as to what this track means to me. I played this game so much & I absolutely loved hearing this track. I remember back before we could really record freely, I would place a really basic recorder next to my TV & snatch that tune. I'd play it as I fell asleep, wrapped up in my blankets before going to school the next morning. Simpler times.
Appreciate the upload mate.
really amazing this song, i did the same thing about the recorder jejejeje good times
ice cap...is...the...BEEEEEEST!!!!!
not exactly..... XD
You're close! Ice Cap is only second best to Lava Reef!!!!!
yeah true :D
good too but for me its not better than lava reef
***** Oh man, that one is glorious!
Some of the best sonic game music of all time...michael jackson
This isn't Michael Jackson.
Nichita Bailuc Yes, it is. Micheal jackson composed sonic 3. My easiest and favorite comparison is Ice Cap zone Act 1 and Smooth Criminal.

Most underated Sonic sound tracks EVER: The multiplayer levels in Sonic 3. Endless Mine is fantastic.
its my favorite, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear it in sonic generations
Rob Bonavoglia
all multiplayer levels are the bom :)
Its the Sonic adventure 2 theme "City Escape"
well kinda
the game that was my childhood
Best video game music in history HANDS DOWN
yesss
He's got a point there, I was raised off this generation of games and this was gaming ost at its prime. The miniboss soundtrack from MJ was Godtier!
mania is better but still. this goes hard.
If you get time, listen to Shinobi 3's soundtrack
@@ShadowDancer_ that's rad. I love that ost too!.
The feeling that the original Sonic games create is unlike anything. The music and level design teleport player to an exotic utopian paradise.
9:32 Hydrocity Act 2 - has to be one of the best level soundtracks of all time.... so perfect for the game!
The two best Songs from this game HAVE to be the Bigarms (Sonic3) or Deathegg Robot at 1:19:08 and the final credits at 1:21:10
Absolutely epic!
MikeyTaylorGaming Also love Marble Garden
BigArms is decent-ish, dont get me wrong; but it doesnt have shit on doomsday lol.
witesand Michael Jackson's people did help with the Sonic 3 soundtrack, and yes while the final credits and "Stranger in Moscow" are directly related Stranger in Moscow came after Sonic 3. It seems after Michael distanced himself from the project he went on to use the assets his team help create for the game.
angel island zone 2, hydrocity 1 and 2, marble garden 1, sandopolis, ice cap zone 1 and death egg 1 are my favourites.
Hydrocity, Ice Cap, Flying Battery 1, Sandopolis, Sky Sanctuary, Death Egg, Doomsday Zone, Act 2 Boss, Death Egg Robot are my all time favorites.
I had the misfortune to grow up with the MIDI soundtrack (PC version) ... Nothing can replace dat bass in the genesis
@Hajar Babakhani Well, thanks to the Sonic 3 beta leak we can now have both. Sonic 3 Beta had the PC exclusive tracks
There's literally zero Sonic songs that I don't like from the classic trilogy. Sonic's music is incredibly underrated.
Bruh written by Michael Jackson so you know
what about that one?
51:22 "Knuckles the Echidna"
It's pretty long...
It's definitely not underrated, critics and fans alike hold the music in high esteem.
I wouldn't say it's underrated, even when people hate games from the franchise they'll often say something like "The music is the only thing holding this game up"
SPPSports not at all, it is loved by many!
20:33 amazing song. Really hits home.
ElitePWNSFace oh yeah
Hard Times by The Jetzons has same melody, pretty good song too.
@@Apocalypse4162 well spotted ! Was trying to figure which song covered this
Chances are if you're listening to this you're in your early to mid 30s with a normal functioning brain
+coolbluelights
Close, I'm 28. Grew up with Sonic, this is the best Sonic ever IMO.
+coolbluelights Dude, I am 25 and I frickin love this music and the games! Grew up playing nothing else :)
I'm 35 haha
I'm actually 20...my brother who is 31 owned a sega genesis...made me play games from 8 bit to current gen..I regret nothing
+coolbluelights Spot on
51:22 Knuckles theme. Really going for that swaggy lo-fi break beat electro sound that would fit perfectly on any underground basement dance floor today!
wen i was little i never realized Robitnik was screwing with the seasons in Mushroom Hill
Literally the greatest soundtrack of all time
I respect your opinion, but please don't sleep on Shinobi 3.
I'm 14 and listening to this because my older cousin had this game for the DS and I LOVED it so much. This game started my sonic phase😂
1:14:34 My cousin and I used to try to rap to that mini boss theme lmao. It brings back awesome memories.
Fr tho
15:48 that level was the bane of my childhood. If you've played it you'll understand why.
that swinging weight block... those were the days
The music just SOUNDS menacing...
I broke a controller on that shit.
Idk, I guess I just liked it more than Sonic 2 as well
Whole hardly agree.
Michael Jackson for president 2024
You got a lot to learn
I love how Michael actually helped sega work on the music for the game.
I was like WHAT??!😮😮❤❤❤
7:25: The Fresh Prince of Hydrocity Zone
It has been made, on UA-cam.
Probably the best OST you'll ever listen to for any game.
To this day, it's quite possibly the best Sonic game ever.
Edit: My opinions changed since I made this comment. I think Adventure 2 is actually the best Sonic game now.
And no, I'm not saying that because of nostalgia.
It took so many flaws that Sonic 1 and 2 had and threw them out the window! :D
The hell it isn't.
No other Sonic game even comes close to how amazing this game is in my opinion.
SA2, imo, is on-par.
2022 R.I.P: 15:47, 20:32, 27:00
Gracias Sega por la jodida hermosa infancia que me diste con estas joyas de videojuegos en mi siempre recordada sega génesis!! :,,,D
Flying Battery 1 & 2 are fucking amazing.
Fokkin CARNIVAL NIGHT😀😀😀😀😀😀😐😐😐😐😕
😕
😔
I agree. It's my favorite theme in the game.
better than pornhub
This is one of the few soundtracks in which there's not a single song I dislike. They're all really good and awesome.
Props to Brad Buxer, Howard Drossin and their respective sound teams.
@Dominik Zelenák "their respective sound teams".
There's other people listed in the Credits who contributed music for this game, in case you forgot.
9:32 still my favourite track from all sonic games. Retrogaming forever!

Thank god I didn't get a snes.
+Eloir Troyack Both systems have some of the best soundtracks in videogame history. I do really like the grungier sound of the genesis games. But there's no denying games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy (series) have incredible soundtracks as well.
+Micah Buzan check out the soundtrack of maximum carnage on both SNES and genesis, grungey metally music from Green Jelly if you haven't already
+Micah Buzan Sonic Boom... The death of your childhood.
Nah just kidding, but seriously that game/show is so stupid. Nice CGI though.
this takes me back. back to being a kid with no worries
Ice Cap Zone Act 1 and Lava Reef Zone Act 1 are certified bangers to this day.
"Ice Cap Zone Act 1 and Lava Reef Zone Act 1" is a weird way of spelling "The whole soundtrack".
Lava Reef Act 2 far better than 1
> Sleeping on Launch Base, Marble Garden, an Hydrocity.
I grew up to this man, literally...i can't tell you how many hours i poured into S3&K as a kid. Even till this day 24 years later it's still one of my favorite games of all time and i regularly play it.
Michael Jackson is such a boss :')

This soundtrack is one of the few I can listen through entirely without skipping a song. Some OSTs are really good but has some bad songs, but this game has nothing but good ones.
POTATOChrisscar did you know Michael Jackson made almost all of the sound tracks
@@Mickado he didn't make all of them, he quit in the middle
I usually skip ice cap 2 gets so repetitive
Mushroom is the worst
The music in this is just something not of this Earth, it's epic!
Hydrocity Act 1 Such an insane bassline.
I'm getting a tattoo of the Sonic and Knuckles logo tonight. = w =
That's the impact this game left on me.
That is fucking awesome
My only complaint with Sonic Mania is that there's no barrel room! ;O
FINALLY THE MICHAEL JACKSON THEORY HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!!!
+Alex Santana He only composed a few stuff on sonic 3
Exactly, very few parts are from when he was around. Most of what they did was all test demos.
Some of the best sounding music on Genesis right here. I didnt realize stage one and stage two had different versions. This is fire!
The save game music blows the Wii music out of the water.
My favorite track from this game has to be the Carnival Night zone! It is so catchy, i cannot get it out of my head! I don't understand why more people don't like it..
1 word, BARREL
Definitely my ringtone for a while back in the day
34:30 i have to express this feelings in my lenguage.
Call me crazy, or nostalgic, or whatever, but Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the greatest video game of all time. And trust me when i say i played a lot of video games.
*****
That sucks you missed out on Sonic's golden era. I'm about ten years older than you.
+ILoveMyAnus Not even close.
+ILoveMyAnus A video game is judged on how much enjoyment it has brought people.. and im pretty sure everyone my age 25-28 would say that all 3 of the sonic games are amazing
just avanegg TV
I am also in your age group! i'm 28 and yes, it doesnt really get much better than these games.
+just avanegg TV I was 34 when you made that comment but, I was about 9 years old when the first Sonic game came out and yes the originals are the best! Well now that we have Sonic Mania that one is awesome too.
Carnival Night and Ice Cap was my favorite. The songs, background and everything with it!
also like the song Credit Roll (1:21:11).
So you liked the carnival night barrel?
Ill love toplay sonic 3 & knuckles wiv u
Nearly 30 years later and this game is my top 5 of all time.
OMG THE SONG AT 1:21:17 IS SOOOO AWESOME IT BRINGS BACK ALL THESE EXPERIENCES IVE NEVER PLAYED ANY SONIC GAMES BEFORE FOR NOW BUT DIS FANTABULOUS MUSIC MAKES ME FEEL LIKE SONIC IS NEXT TO ME IN REAL LIFE JUST OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!
Stranger in Moscow - MJ🔥🔥🔥💖
This gives me so much memories. I used to play this on the sonic classic collection on my dsi xl. I lost the game chip afterwards.
Good job with this timeless classic MJ and team.
Why is the music so good... can't stop listening. Maybe its a combination of the creative sound engineering and nostalgia.
Thank you for uploading this, it's been a long time since I've heard all these songs and I love it! I can't stop listening to them all!
Flying Battery Act 1 music
This game will never go outta style
Recuerdo cuando jugaba este increible juego con mis amigos en mi SEGA Genesis de niño
¡Grandioso video!
In all honesty, I discovered this soundtrack this year, took a while for me go get used to it, and now I love it. Your childhood doesn't really matter.
51:22, 49:12, 2:43, 11:27, 9:32, 31:21, 37:33, 27:01, 44:09, 41:05.....SOME AMAZING MUSIC!!!
51:22 my head
Hydro City 2 got it.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles together was a masterpiece. To me as an ensemble, it was the best sonic game ever made.
This soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece.
Ice Cap Act 1/2 ❄ Nostalgic af and was always my favorite when I was little. What a time to be alive lol
Why didn't you just start a new file?
@@noname-jt6kl I didn't even know you can do that. I was like 8 or something so like I didn't know any better. It's all right, though, thanks to the internet I can find all my favorite songs!
