Years ago we lived on a farm with no running water inside and no bathroom. We were miles from anyone and had two bathtubs in the yard. Filled them with water from the well in the morning, and took a bath in the evening after the sun had warmed the water. Absolutely lovely. Of course we could only do that in the summer. Your idea makes it year round

    Hello , my dears! 😊
Just remembered an idea from over 37 years ago, when we lived on our own piece of land in Zakynthos, Greece!
We painted our water tank on the roof of our 'house' black, which then provided us with ample warm/hot water, depending on the sun!
    It was never cold!😊

Tip ,, get a cheap roasting tin, build the fire in the tin, when the water is hot enough pull the tin away,

glenbolton: great idea. Better than trying to wait until the fire dies down. Or pulling the fire away.

Theo, check out rocket stoves. They burn really well. Not too much smoke and you can make a coil run in it to warm the bath water. Great stuff. Very economical on wood too :-)

I feel like you have missed out a big part of your story, your journey to your land, the van tour and how it's all working out, even though it's not finished, the scenery where you are, do you plan to plant herbs, food? what are your goals for the land, why not use the drain off water to water plants? Can you use the well water to drink? the most interesting thing here is the quick look at the solar level, how much does that last? How are you both feeling! It feels a bit like a chore for you to make these vids but trust me,. We are all interested in the fine details! I know, it's hard being public figures eh! Xx

Pumping to a water tank at the top of your land makes a lot of sense - it could even be a permanent plunge pool, with overflow running through reeds, gravel and sand beds to provide some filtering - this is the stuff of dreams for me personally :)

My mother told us a story about growing up in rural Wales. Grandad got a new post in north wales working for Great Western Railway. They supplied a cottage that had a cauldron outside for wash. Grandma thought “what a great place to give the kids a hot bath” she lit a fire under it and when the water warmed up in when mom and her brothers. Of course when kids feet hit the bottom out they jumped. The metal bottom being somewhat hot from the fire. Not one of grandma’s greatest ideas.

You could make a small fire in a metal bucket and let the fire go to glowing coals, then just shovel the coals under the tub. I think you might find it will heat the water at a more controlled rate that hopefully wont burn your bum. ;-)

Make a wooden grate from teak. Lasts forever and keeps bot from burning. If the well is a proper spring fed well then the water must be able to flow away. If it doesn’t then it’s a seepage well. Not good!
