  • There's so much going on, and we love it! The horsebox conversion is going to be a lot of fun to bring to life, we've been thinking about it a lot over the past few months and can't wait to transform it.
    Massive thanks to Kylie and Will for the hedge plants, can't wait to see how they turn out :)

    A compact tractor might be better than a quad, you can get attachments like mowers, ploughs etc. plus front loaders and trailers. Might be cheaper too.

    Ikea sofa bed would be great in the horse box, I would have a add on box on the outside of the front door with a compost toilet, sort of a small en-suite

    Quadbikes a fun for zipping around your land but a small tractor or mini-digger would be loads more useful. Specially when you want to clear an area for your shower and dig a loo pit or something.
    But loving the videos, wish I could do something like that myself.

    Great work! I do love rustic spaces. As long as you have light, air circulation, a place to sleep, and a designated, comfortable place to sit in the horse box, all will be awesome. I do see lots of flowers around that deck. Awesome!

    Oh goodness! You've given me the coolest idea for my own housing on my land (30 acres)! We have a fifth wheel that we're renovating but it's my son (he's 20) and I, not a partner, so I've been giving thought to our separate needs. I think two horse boxes for our separate bedroom spaces might be a great idea and then use the fifth wheel for our kitchen, bathroom, living room, and guest quarters!

    I'm so excited for you! What a lovely spot, and great plans you have.
    My husband and I just bought a "three horse slant" last week! It has basically the same door configurations as yours. We have nice solid running boards all the way around the trailer which we plan to use the front side that does not have a door to build a lovely wood flip over shower stall. Basically, we will cover that part of the running board with a nice piece of wood cut to size. It will have an extension about the same size that hinges the two together. When traveling we simply flip it back over itself and secure it down. For shower mode, we flip it back out and brace it from underneath to keep it level and secure. A detachable semi-circular shower rod with a hanging five-gallon solar shower bag is all that is needed. We could outfit the flip shower floor with a drain a long drain tube to move gray water away from the "Tramper" (trailer camper)

    That horse box has so much potential. Can’t wait to see what you turn it into.
    You might consider a wood burner with some sort of heated, recirculated water piping system to heat the bath, instead of building a fire underneath the bath tub. Maybe a wood fired hot water heater, with a spout that feeds hot water into the bath.
    Looking forward to seeing that hedge come to life.
    Happy Camping

    A fold down table/desk would be great and you could have another hinged on the exterior for your outdoor kitchen. So that way it could be clipped down if you ever need to move the horse box. I can just imagine it with window boxes too, for herbs or flowers. For storage on the inside you could store blankets and sheets etc for the bed inside ottomans. So the seating could then become part of the bed, perhaps. Open shelves could be handy, perhaps. A sink on the deck with a little mirror or mirrored cabinet mounted above it would make things very comfortable for guests. It may not be practical, but if you wanted to be able to transport the whole thing in the future, maybe a kitchen could be on a trolley kind of pull-out drawer. Like in a camper-trailer. So it could pull out through the wall of the box. So excited to see what you do with it. :)

    If you're thinking of having people sleep in the horse box you'd probably want to be able to offer them a double bed. One way to do that would be to make it a split double that hinges on each side of the box and then connects in the middle. That way you can keep the area in the middle clear for other stuff and you could even have a fold-down (or up) desk on the back of one of the beds that could serve as a working area during the day. I'd definitely use some of that over-head area for storage for your guests. If you're not planning on moving it around much then you could extend some storage out of the box by cutting a hole in the side and make an add on box. Cheers guys!

    Hi guys, it's all coming together nicely. Your land in Portugal looks amazing. I've been collecting tools since i was a lad and the most useful and versatile tool i have is a sack truck. I've used it for moving boulders just like yours Theo. and it saves lifting as you just roll them onto the truck. I've used it for many chores and i wouldn't be without one. I reckon one would be useful around your land. I've got a mixed hedge on my property too and it's just amazing, you'll love yours when it grows and matures. Stay safe guys and keep up the good work.

    I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about how the horse box would do as a "guest house," but I don't know why because y'all are so great at conversions. Everything you've said here sounds absolutely amazing. I love the idea of the wrap around porch with an outdoor kitchen area. For the pull down doors, I've seen tiny house decks that have foldable supports so if/when you want to move it, you can just fold the doors up and then fold away the supports so they lay flush to the unit. Seems like a really nice idea so you don't have to deconstruct it if you do move it around.
    Overall I think it is a super cute idea to have it be an office space for y'all. You could make the couch/bed conversion have storage for your camera equipment. I suppose you would add solar then, which makes sense.
    For the outdoor living unit, have you thought about adding a projector screen? You can get some outdoor movie time in :)

      Oh and I forgot, as far as video ideas go: I'd love to see a video laying out all of your plans. Like, what is your list of what you plan to do, what are the priorities, are they going to all be done by y'all or will things like well water pumping be done by a professional, long term vs short term goals, etc. Thanks ^_^

    Instead of cementing in the rocks around the bath, how about turning it into a rock garden? With the larger rocks, build them up to give the impression of a grotto. That would make an amazing bath 'room'.

    I think it would be neat to put in a murphy bed. Double wide, probably still have room on the other side for a foot wide counter/cabinets. You have the height to put deeper cabinets under the connected bed side as well for more storage and/or a couch when the murphy bed is up.

    I have been thinking for the last few weeks about building another SketchUp model of an elevated container house with either a courtyard or some kind of atrium. However, whilst watching this vid I have had a few ideas I want to share with you guys and the only way I can think of would be to build a model of it. Can you tell me the dimensions of the horsebox so I can model it to scale. You can see some of my other models in the SketchUp Warehouse under the name AidyMadd or type in 'The House that Beebo Built'.
    I'm thinking something like an elevated bed platform above the join on the walls. Or possibly a Murphy Bed on one of the walls. With regards to the wood burner. I have one that was made for me nearly 30 years ago out of an old calor gas bottle and the flu went out of one of the windows of my ambulance. As the location you have chosen is in front of a window, it would make sense for you to do the same. Thus aleviating the need to further disturb the fragile fibreglass and also overheating the space. For one night only, mine superheated and nearly melted me and the ambulance. Definitely learned my lesson with that one, lol!!
    Great vids keep up the good work. Peace and Love Aidy

    What about wind or severe rain during wintertime in Portugal? I love the idea of a "party-tent" during summer but I assume there must be a "winter" "windy" season in Portugal. No negative feelings though ... Hope this will work out for you!

    You should definitely put all of your outdoors wooden furniture on some tiles or stone to raise them off the ground, should help if you get bad weather at any point!
    on that note it may be worth digging some drainage around your new awning so it doesn't flood inside if it were to rain (:

  • @maryellencook9528
    @maryellencook9528 5 років тому

    I think that you should put in a Dutch door where the single door is located. You could end leave the upper half open for air flow and the bottom could be closed if it needed to be shut for whatever reason they do keep the goats out whenever you get sheep or goats. You could still have the ramp come down and act as a small deck or outdoor kitchen and it would give it that Cottage feel that you are wanting for that particular structure. If you can get cedar shingles for the roof that would look good, and be fairly weather resistant. If not, it should not take too many planks of Hardy board that you could put as a roof but still stain or paint it to where it looks like regular shingles. That's just the thought.
    Have you considered making a pagoda over your bathtub with a lattice style ceiling ? With a lattice you would still be able to see the stars but during the summer time and particularly in the daytime if anybody is using the tub it would provide some shade and protection from the Sun. You could then get bug screen curtains to put around the edge of the pagoda light you probably have around your outdoor living room. That will keep you from being eaten alive during the summer time from mosquitoes and other types of bugs. Again, that's just a thought.

      Love the idea of the barn door 👌🏻

    • @maryellencook9528
      @maryellencook9528 5 років тому

      @@theindieprojects I think that would allow for some privacy as well as air circulation, and you would still be able to look out the top half. And again, it would go in with that Cottage like theme. Yall's property there in Portugal looks so much like the area of South Texas that I live in, and grew up in, that I think a lot of similar structures would be to your advantage. And I'm serious about that pergola over your bathtub. A lot of places here in Texas do have that built over their outdoor baths because of the sun, and the two of you are so fair skinned that you have to be careful with the amount of sun exposure that you get.
      And I do think that comes springtime you really should look into harvesting some of your prickly pear and chopping it up and putting in with your scrambled eggs and other dishes. Go online and look for recipes that include nopolitas. As I have mentioned earlier you will need to burn off the thorns on the cactus and probably brush off some of that out or skin but the rest of the prickly pear is very tasty. The recipes should tell you how you can prepare the cactus leaf for cooking. And if all else fails like I also said you can boil it down and a big that maybe using that other large wash tub that you have and Theo can make some moonshine out of it. ;-)

    • @maryellencook9528
      @maryellencook9528 5 років тому

      the next time you come to the States please plan on visiting down in South Central Texas and the hill country and you will see what I mean. I think it would give you a lot of good building ideas as well as farming ideas for your acreage. As I have said it looks like the land is very similar in nature.

    What about isolating the bathtub so it wouldn't loose heat so fast, and so the metal doesn't get so hot. It would also protect the surface from the hard rocks. Of course you couldn't do that of you want to heat it up with a fire beneath it, but with a heat coil-system it will be fine.

    Hey guys, love all of your videos. I actually think a quad bike would be very useful for the both of you and everything your doing on the land. See about finding a used one. I know and respect how thrifty you two are but I think the bike would greatly help your projects. You could even pull a small trailer with it.

    some form of fold down bunk maybe ontop of the bench seat. also look at some form of electric or hybrid buggy or quad better for future and more sustainable

    Hi Theo&B I would just like to mention something that's not in the comments your little table you have is as you will probably know antique if you head over and look at some of the well-known auction sites you will find they are going for £40 to over £145 it may be worth reconsidering it's full time home when you could put those pounds into your property it will go a wee further for you guys on the land...

      Sorry guys I'm referring to the little table in your shisha chillax area😉😂😂 I would also like to mention I would think about demobilising the trailer if you are thinking of leaving it there while you're not present you can't leave them on your driveway let alone in another country?.shame I know.

    Loads have people have beaten me to it. I used to work on quarries in the middle of nowhere and I’ve had quads and tractors etc. A tractor for you is BY FAR a better option. Get one with power take off and you can do all sorts. Post hole boring, mowing, raking, stick a trailer on it for every day jobs, local transport, towing the van out if it gets stuck, fit a water bowser on it or a diesel bowser, pull out roots, log splitter.....the list is endless.

    As much as I love the simplicity of the way you have created a hot bathtub...it does seem a little crazy, and not just because you are literally boiling yourself in water. My observation is based on the bathtub being a proper cast iron tub and not a modern replica, btw. Assuming that it’s cast iron, it’s is very inefficient to heat and takes more energy to heat than say copper or aluminium, so you’ll probably be using a lot of wood in order to get this going. Rather than heat the tub what you should be doing is heating the water. Simplest way is to use the existing holes in the tub for the drain and taps (presuming you have irreparably sealed them) as an inlet and outlet to attach some copper tubing to one to the other with plenty of tubing in between . Then creating a good helix of the tubing which you can put on/in a fire next to the tub. You can heat the same amount of water in a quicker time with less fuel plus you aren’t literally boiling yourself in a bathtub.

    I agree with the comment below (seth perry), that a small tractor or small digger (excavator) would be far better, (the latter);- clear bramble, lift rocks, transfer object at heights, shake trees for harvesting, dig holes/channels, move earth around, clear your water well etc - the only slight downside is where will you store it against weather or for security reasons (other than hiring one) - I would also be tempted to buy a 20ft shipping container.

    Are you in North or Central Portugal? If, you don't mind me asking?. Also, did you ever do a video on the buying process?. Really enjoying these daily vlogs. I'm currently trying to buy land in Central Portugal, so watching you two doing this, is so inspiring and keeps the dream alive. keep up the good work. Hayley ~ Brighton, UK

    If there is no sign of a affordable Quad you could always pick up a cheap local MOT failure, a pickup would be perfect or a hatch/ estate and bang around the land in it, if you get the same model as your real car it could be a good donor vehicle for bits if you need them :-) and if and when it dies it can become a good mouse proof store :-) You guys are doing good , keep on keeping on :-)
