Good on you Jarrod for showing us simple things like laptop internal parts (e.g. ram R8/R16, GPU wattage, CPU power limits etc) can change a laptops performance from a similar spec’d model to another by ridiculous sums such as 30-50% in some models gaming benchmarks. Your reviews and detailed explanation are vital for us consumers considering an expensive tech purchase such as laptops which are often kept for a number of years by users. Excellent job my man! You Rock 🪨🥰🏆🎉🥳👍
The amount of time it would have taken to do all these tests... Damn Jarrod! Thank you!
Wow! More upgradability in a budget laptop then a high end! Well done Acer!👍🏆🥰🥳🎉
Nitro: did you make me cheap?
Acer: yes
Nitro: what did it cost?
Acer, sobbing: money
Love this
Well... it comes to pricing and pricing is different between regions. And the downside of having single channel memory is not bad decision. Cheaper price allowing buyers with limited budget to purchase it earlier and it can be upgraded later.
The only major downside is screen quality, which is not replaceable, at least for most users and it's damn hot operating temperature for AMD models.
On the pros side, it seems to be the only gaming laptop with 2x M.2 slots and 2.5" bay, allowing 3x storage at once. Something that we can appreciate.
Bruh I was just looking for reviews an hour ago. Glad u posted one
I have been waiting for this review. Thank you for this video.
No problem!
This has been a recurring theme in budget Acer laptops lmao. The things they’d cheapen out on just to compete specs-wise are sometimes a little bit much, but they’re really cheap so people would still consider them
also that small battery... gosh that small battery. They need to get it through their heads - it's not 2018 anymore
You're just a nitpicking gnat.

@@righteousone1 if you're stuck in the past and don't know that tons of gaming laptops have a full day battery nowdays I don't know what to tell ya. Legion 5(non pro) with an 80 watt hour battery, TUF A15 with a 90 watt hour one for instance.

This is by far the most accurate and detailed review of this laptop. Thank you for the help.
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder if ryzen 7 5800H variant was not a thing right there as it represents more of the hype that was happening here in South East Asia. Despite the color gamut & brightness, I found this laptop surprisingly satisfying performance-wise. Kind of looked forward to your review for that variant, but seeing that you give review for newer model, I guess I'm going to have to seat this one out.
Great as always thank you so much jarrod
Short Feedback: At 11:23 it is extremely hard to find the intel models for people like me that are partially color blind. Using colors with more contrast would help a ton.

Incredibly detailed review. Can't find many of these on UA-cam. Do the same for the hp victus 16 too lol. Instant Subbed and liked. Keep this quality up, really helps in the final purchase of a product with one's hard earned cash 👍🏻
Victus review is coming soon!
Fantastic review. Soooo thorough! I am watching because I already bought one, Intel, and need to inform myself now that have ... haha. And I'm happy to say, that by plugging in an external quality 4K monitor to the HDMI, and spending $125 more on new RAM, I've eliminated 90% of the compromise issues and have a real beast now at an excellent low low price. Que ganga!
How is it performs now? Any good?
Yeah how's the performance
I find it is very good. Perhaps not AAA, but a very solid blend of reasonably fast performance and moderate price. I'm old, so my game playing is slowing down, but I can get beautiful imagery and smooth frame rates on Sekaru Shadows Die Twice and Witcher 3. I play in 2k, but upscaled to 4k, currently using their frame upscaling, but the 3050 card does support DLSS, so, for example, when the remastered Witcher 3 comes out in a month, I should get even better graphics and frame rates. For budget performance, I have zero regrets. EDIT UPDATE: I did update Witcher 3 to the newer version that has DLSS, and I can run at 4K on High with strong framerates. Assuming that more titles will have DLSS, it will be a huge step up from the RTX2000 series.
@@michaeltritter2743 thanks for the review so u got the rtx 3050 variant

I have an old version of Nitro. Ryzen 5 1650 gpu. They are nice to use, use it for learning and gaming. The arrow keys really sux, I often misclick it. So far, they are really good. I also live in Philippimes where Nitro 5 is $1000 and other gaming laptops are just expensive.
Can you make a review of Dell's G15 5515 Ryzen Edition? When it came out the thermals were abysmal and it had no Mux switch but they released a bios update and fixed all that, and the price is pretty afordable for what it comes with.
After comparing laptop models with rtx 3060, I will buy this one as it fits my budget. Despite having number of compromises, I think it still can performs well in gaming as it mainly focused on that rather than editing. Just upgrade the ram to faster one and dual channel configuration and you are good to go.
My dude if you can get the legion 5 with the 3060, it’s miles better
@@hannongt and leagues more expensive. Not just by like $100 but by like $400.
I’d recommend getting an omen 15. Since omen 15’s are custom built (or more accurately they have a few customization options), they take long to ship, but every once in a while an uncustomizable 3060 variant comes out for $1150. It is LEAPS and BOUNDS better than the Acer, looks better, and overall is a bette value for a similar price. With better performance because of its higher quality build. I bought it for my self and I am very satisfied.

Glad to see a laptop that still comes with SATA bay + 2 M.2 slots. Waited quite a long time to get a review of this laptop. Being pushed aggressively by the sales person in the stores. But i required your take on that. Thanks J!
so did you decide on this one?
9/10 don't trust sales people in most industries they only know fractionally more than the customer and its usually only information that they can use to get the sale (think to the average car dealership, they have salesmen AND mechanics, you don't even have to know how to change a tire and can still have a career selling cars) If you're buying from a best buy, microcenter or some other big tech store there is no requirement for their employees to have any sort of background in tech, and it shows in the hiring process, they want salespeople first, everything else second.
Hi Jarrod, nice review as always. I own one of these and battery life has been disappointing. How did they went from 600 min battery life to 240 min in the new gen? And can you make a video on how to extend laptop battery life, some general practices and good habit.

I'm currently typing this on my new Nitro 5 AN515 - 57 - 53SB (2021) (i5-11th Gen, 8GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, NVIDIA 3050Ti with 4GB Dedicated). I love this laptop, and I've been using this for about a week now, to put it simply; the battery is not good or bad either, the screen flexes when you put stress on it but the rest is perfect for me. I mainly use this for surfing the web, learning Software Development using Visual Studio 2022, and will use in the future a bit for online schooling. It's kinda overkill relative to my usage, lol. Overall, I'm happy to hear that most of the compromises can be solved by having an external monitor and increasing the ram by spending a few hundred bucks.
I'm disappointed with the new generations of Nitro 5's, I travel a lot for work so I need a decent gaming laptop when I can't be with my lovely tower lol. I remember buying one in 2018 iirc with an 8500h and 1050ti because it was recommended by multiple yt'ers, was cheap and it was great. Hey @Jarrod'sTech. I love almost every aspect of your videos. Ex last vid was AMD Ryzen 5 vs Intel I5, so you could've put AMD & INTEL wallpapers to distinguish them ✌️✌️
But why would we even need to distinguish between them? It serves no purpose
@@tuugestein96 It's just the small things that improve the overall impact of the video. I've noticed him using his hands to point out which model he talks about, although both the laptops look exactly identical to each other. So this is why ✌️🙂

Yo Jarrod, will you make a vid about the new Dell G15 gaming laptop? I always wanted to buy it because was very concerned about the thermals.

Dude....Please make a review video on HP Victus❗❗.....Your reviews are always reliable.
I bought this laptop and have been using it for like 1 and a half months now. I love the laptop. Tho it does thermal throttle a bit (in my experience) when gaming. It’s still a really good laptop imo. I guess I have never been exposed to more premium laptops. I’d say this laptop is great for me. To Mina sad that it doesn’t have undervolting. It could really help the thermals if it’s unlocked.
Btw I have the specs with i7 and RTX 3060. It looks like a deal ($1149). And I have not seen much throttling when gaming. I do see it throttle when I crank the settings up to max in Shadow of the tomb raider. It starts to throttle like after 1 hour.

Hey Jarrod! For clarification, the Acer Nitro 5 GTX 1650 would still be a good pick right? I noticed that you reviewed the RTX 3060, which I agree is a bit unreasonable considering that this is a budget gaming laptop.
While true, the Ryzen 4600H/4800H with GTX 1650 is probably even cheaper, so i'd definitely recommend the last-gen Ryzen version. Unless you want the single-core performance and 4-zone RGB keyboard.
So now the question RYZENs, what's the Nitro 5 that is the more INTELligent option?

@@georgeousthegorgeous at least both of them have budget friendly options, whereas Lenovo does not!... So I think that settles this discussion.
The worst of all nitro gen
i see what you did
Recently picked up a 17" with AMD 5800H, and a RTX3060. 1440p 165hz monitor for my wife to use.
AN517-41-R0GA
Seems like a solid bang for buck laptop.
How is it after 7 months?
Hey Jarrod! Should i get this laptop with r5 5600h + gtx 1650 or the msi bravo 15 r5 4600h + rx 5300m? Theyre about the same price in my country so i dont know which one to get
Jarrod, this is awesome comparison. Gigabyte release same configuration with clevo chasis and would it be possibly to compare with these two? Gigabyte g5 kd, with i5-11400h and 3060, 16gb ram, and also comes with two nvme slows and one 2.5" bay.
so which is better nitro 5 or tuf dash f15?
Hey Jarrod will you be doing a review on HP Victus?
Great video.. can you also review Nitro 5 with 5900hx and RTX 3070..
Hp omen 15 rtx 3060 ryzen 5 review?? BTW thanks for the wonderful comparison 🙂
Hey Jarrod, I have a r5 5600h + rtx 3060 nitro 5 with 2x8 (16gb) ram x16 dual channel. It´s the only variant you didn´t test. I´d like to know the antialiasing setting for shadow of the tomb raider to do my own benchmark. I can share my results...
This is the best money could get me, and honestly... I think I'm okay with it. I've had worse, and it'd be my first actual gaming laptop, so I'm glad. It's already hard getting stuff locally or online here, so finding something and knowing "It wasn't a mistake" it's comforting.
(And yes, yes I'm getting the 2021 model on 2023, that's called third-world economy for you..)
Edit: Forgot to say! I got it bros!
It's a fine laptop, but I wouldn't call it great. It's just good.
Get an external monitor to push its boundaries.
haha same here, we're all in this together bro
I love being early on a great UA-camr's video
I recently got the laptop with a Ryzen 7 5800h, rtx 3060 6gb, 32gb ram (upgrade), 2tb m2 nvme ssd (upgrade).
I've been able to handle all games I've tried at highest graphics with an avg of 60-90fps (far cry 6, battle field 1, fifa 23, Mortal Kombat 11)
Im am editor and 3d animator, this was my first pc with a graphics card, I was using a dell e5450 with 8th gen i5 and Intergrated graphics. The improvement is unbelievable, I've done some render ínstense work on blender, with ease. Everything has a limit tho, certain tasks used up the 6gb vram and caused crashes eg. Adding large clouds, while using experimental blender features, dense particle systems, high poly count models.
Video editing 4k is a breeze, using DaVinci resolve.
The only issue is overheating, watch temps, maintain vents and thermal paste. Using a laptop stand helps a lot, fans are very loud on max but I'd rather have a cooler pc and just turn up the volume or use head phones.
Can you please report how is your battery doing on normal tasks ??
Hello jarrod! Does the amd variant of this nitro supports multiple displays?
When are you gonna get the Acer triton 500 se? I need to make a purchase decision and your review is the only one I really trust.
I'm expecting to receive it in September
a question, I plan to buy a laptop for personal use and gaming, but can they endure gaming for a long time ? (e.g heavy gaming for 2+ hours session), and power on 24/7.
My work laptop is working 24/7 for 5 years now without any problems (battery life is reduced a bit, but it is to be expected), but I'm not sure if a laptop with discreet gpu can do that...
ps: an edit that the nitro 5 comes with the dtsx ultra installed so you might wanna tweak it and it boosts the speaker sound by almost double
What settings do u used for longer battery life up to 6 hours?
Jarrod it would be really nice if you added DCS to the tests
Bro plz do streaming test of both of these laptops plz i need to know which one is better one amd or the intel 😊
Compare to the Gigabyte G5 KC, is it better in term of build quality and performance?
I picked up a 1650 i5 1300h for $898au which is Great so I’m very happy.
i have the 2020 nitro 5 with the 1650ti, its cooler appears to have more heat pipes than your one?
Is it possible to add another stick of x8 memory to the existing x16 memory on the Intel model?
Same Acer Nitro.CPU i7 11800H,nvidia rtx 3070,16gb ddr4 16gb Ram(Dual 2 mal 8GB),work great for gaming😳👍
So, I bought it and it sometimes makes clicking sounds when I open it from the left edge. Should I get it replaced?
Do you recommend it to play brother?
So the type see port can be used for displaying on a second monitor?
hey jarrod
60hz with 100srgb
or 144hz with 60srgb with bad response time like this acer
?which is better
Should i get Alienware m15 r2 in 2021, got an offer for 800 with minor scratches
do you know what ram you added with the intel one I'm hoping to get one
