Might go see it just cos Scott Walker did the score and its the last piece of music we will ever get from that absolute genius.
Have a nice life fan ;)
Wow. Anything Scott Walker is involved in be it music or singing is got to be fantastic as far as I'm concerned. RIP scott.💔💔
I really loved it. Portman was great, but I thought Jude Law was sensational in the film. Terrifically underrated performer.
This was my second favorite movie of 2018 behind Roma. It's fantastic and Natalie Portman is so good.
She was amazing
I thought she was slightly overacting.
To me, it was obvious something sinister was going on. She says “I’ve done something terrible” to her sister before they go to sleep.
If this was a half hour longer, I wouldn't hesitate in calling it a genuinely amazing film and I probably don't understand it 100% but as it stands, it's still entertaining as hell thanks to the music and Portman's go for broke performance. Corbet definitely wears his influences (such as Haneke and von Trier on his sleeve) and it'll be interesting to see where he goes from here.
"I'd always rather watch a filmmaker take a risk and attempt to do something really dangerous and not succeed than see somebody play it safe.". I think Michael Flately might have something to say about that.
I'd like to express my own views on the film and how they compare to Kermode's, but he's pretty on the money with this, so I'll just instead say I 100% agree with him here.
This sounds intriguing. Been very polarizing amongst my friends.
Such an overlooked film and one of the best films of 2018
Found myself laughing out loud several times during this film and I’m not entirely sure that’s what the director intended.
I love Natalie Portman and she is an incredible actress, but this is so disjointed and erratic and the ending leaves much to be desired. I found myself asking, ‘what! Is that it?’
Mark can you tell us how good Jude Law was in this movie just One More Time?
I didn’t care for the film but Natalie was so watchable and committed, that it brought me around to saying I liked the film.
mmmallory33 I felt the same way. It’s fascinating but ultimately not very rewarding
best horror movie of 2018... horror movie you ask? yes... ‘horror movie’. watch the movie again after the admission at the end and concentrate... it’s there
i agree 100%
Yup a horror movie about the 21st century
I agree, great performances from Jude Law (I too loved his character in AI), and Natalie Portman who never ceases to amaze me, and the girl from to kill a sacred deer, I can't remember her first name right now, but I digress..... Definitely loved this film and I didn't see the end coming which on a new watch you can spot things.
v powerful start ... goes downhill from portman's arrival, although not her fault, but even she can't save it
It's great
The film maybe unfocused, dull & lifeless, however the film’s well acted, well characterised, stylish & an intriguing drama film. (66%) (3.5/5 stars) (mixed to positive)
Portman is extraordinary; Law less so, but the film is its own genre. Law stood out for the wrong reasons - I believed everyone else's characters.
It's funny, because I thought Natalie was slightly hammy and she had to rely on rest of the cast to seem convincing esp on Stacey Martin and Law.
The cast was definitely the best thing about it.
A star is bored
JRS touché, Prison Mike.
Manny Salazar haha
I don't agree, but that comment was so beautiful I'm letting it slide.
I Love This Movie!
I stopped watching it one third of the way though it was awful
One of the worst movies ever ...my friend and I watched the whole mess just to marvel at how awful it was!
RANESTORY PICTURES I couldn’t stand it. I have never purposely stopped watching a movie before this one was just awful.
Awful movie!
quite disappointing film. lets get real.
Seen bits...cassavetes signature all over it
Really.i saw scorcese influence too. Wat cassavetted movies? I kust saw part of chinese bookie. Hes intense
No one ever talks about how this movie is almost exactly like Lars von Trier at his least curious and most preachy.
Yours is the only opinion on film I trust. As if having experience and education in film gives you a certain level of expertise.
As opposed to some kid giving his in-depth opinion on a film when he only watches marvel movies exclusively, hahaha....
It starts out with an interesting premise, but gets mired in its own self-importance. When not singing, Portman is believable, but on stage she comes across more like a stage musicals performer than a pop singer. Disappointingly the music was forgettable.......I think.
The concert was probably intentionally underwhelming. Earlier in the movie,Celeste says something like "My music is getting worse,my sales are growing." Music is descending but the worse it gets, the more people love it.
Or maybe I'm just looking too deep into this.
@@tiaaaron3278- Thank you for your reply. I think your last line sums up the film perfectly. While Celeste’s traumatic experiences might have shaped her ideas; I wasn’t convinced of the almost ‘reverential’ treatment of Celeste and her music. Aspects of the film reminded me of Breaking Glass, only without Hazel O’Connor’s haunting music.
@@englandcalling9721 I think Vox Lux has slight "Tell, don't show" problem. The narrator talks about intersting stuff but they only marginally *shown* and talked about by the characters. I've heard the narrator idea was a last-minute addition since Willem Dafoe joined the movie extremely late in production.
@@tiaaaron3278 - Ah now that makes sense. Anyone who's willingly been in multiple Lars von Trier films is well suited to adding a bit of.......................
The single worst original movie of the 2010's.
Isn't this like 4 months late...?
Films taking ages to come out in the UK shocker
@@charliepanayiotou4305 aah, ok. My bad.
@@charliepanayiotou4305 Funny thing is I was just thinking of writing a review about it yesterday, but figured it was too late to matter.
