I'm glad someone is taking the time to address the most important part of EDC, core. It's the humble first step most of us take when getting into this hobby/lifestyle. Not everyone can afford huge, expensive knives and multi-tools, some of us get by with hand-me-downs or whatever can fit in the pocket everyday and not be cumbersome. I used to carry a Victorinox classic for years as a teen, then a Rambler for a few more years, until I discovered Leatherman. My core for the better of 4 years now has just been a Leatherman squirt P4 and a small folding utility knife. Both I got at a flea market for less than $10 a few years back. They have been life savers as the small bits on the squirt are excellent for screws, light level prying, electric connectors, and light duty picks. The knife is pretty self explanatory, any utility knife is mandatory in a core EDC, but I find a small utility knife is the best average player when compared to flimsy box cutters, exactos, and larger pocket knives (Plus changing the blades are easier than sharpening and maintaining an edge. Appreciate the videos as always.
Haven't tried the Murphy wallet yet, I've been using the All-ett brand for quite a while. US made, RFID if you want that, & it lasts a good while-for me it's typically been 5-7 years of everyday use. Pricing is a bit higher than the Murphy and it's a bit bigger but huge storage for cards and it stays flat in your pocket. I just bought a new leather All-ett so I'll have to wait a while before I give the Murphy a look but I'll definitely give it a look-this creator typically has great suggestions
Agreed with Allett wallets. I have the ID wallet, and I love it! It is perfect for me, holds just the amount of cards I need and is still a traditional bifold, plus it is made in California. Bit pricey compared to similar wallets, but worth it to support a company in my home state!
Allett for me too. The Original is big enough for an A7 notebook. But the Travel Wallet holds passport sized notebooks. Built in pen slot too. These wallets are typically much thinner than something like the Murphy.
Same here, I keep It on on my key chain for random mail, packages, and bottle caps. It also comes in handy for the rare moments I am asked to create a stencil for a paint project at work, lol like I had to do yesterday for the Vessel's IMO number in the machinery space.
Excellent setup. Most people, myself included, carry more gear than they really need on a daily basis. Unless you are in the trades all you need is a couple of screw drivers, a cutting tool, scissors and maybe some bits. I don't even think you need a pliers on your person. The only reason I carry a small one is to removes ticks in season. If I am at home I have a full set tools and in the car I have an emergency kit with several multitools.
Good video, as far as a bit of paper to carry( I'm not addressing the pen question) write in the rain makes a tiny little notebook that is a great wallet fit, and I don't know about you, bit moisture ie sweat and rain I find to sometimes be an issue and the write in the rain eliminates that.
We approve especially with the key organiser. Have not seen the Uknife & Pry before and it's giving us some "light bulb" moment. A key organiser, flashlight, Uknife & Pry combo. Add a skeletool, bobs your uncle.! Cheers from Australia.
This has really inspired me to look more into the keyport pivot as great piece of kit, beyond just a key holder. Hoping to have a mod for the PowerPint out in a few weeks, would love to see you cover it on here!
Great video! A lot of good stuff. I've been trying to add something like to my EDC. I've had a heck of time going for my pocket EDC and my sling EDC. Keep up the content!
Another great video and a nice change of pace. I got a Nextool Mini Sailor on your prior recommendation for a TSA-friendly multitool -- it's great. I added a pocket clip to it, which is the most modding I'm capable of. Thanks!
After doing the full gambit of EDC trends I spent time trimming down my items. At this rate the minimum to leave the house is phone, wallet (ridge), keys (car key + single house key), and a leatherman (varies). The phone takes care of the light and the note taking, the wallet simply carries the cards and a tiny bit of cash, the keys are as small as i can keep them, and the leatherman solves all my other tasks minus say a pen.
2 years ago I switched to the Aviator wallet cuz its very slim and compact and I love it! It even has a coin pocket slider but I use that for my house key because it's the only key I carry besides my car key fob. Speaking of which I love the honda pilot key fob because it's so small. I always carry my galaxy buds+ with me. And i just recently picked up the sog powerpint thanks to your videos. It is an awesome little multitool! One last thing, I dont carry a flashlight because my phone has a flashlight. Great videos!
I like it, no fluff and no $100 pieces. Interestingly, I generally have no keys. You stated it my phone opens my car and home door. I use a chums wallet because I occasionally get coins and carry one card that uses a QR code for entrance and put my mini flagship. That card goes in the front. I use 3x5 post it notes; I have found I tend to write notes for others and the ones to myself, I can then put them in place they are needed. When I rent a car or ride my bike, those keys can be added to the Chums.
Three cheers for the LeverGear Edge XT! Such an awesome tool. It completely replaces the opener layer on a SAK Companion and then some. It's an elegant shrunken version of the Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1 with even more utility.
Really great video as per usual, so helpful, I have put together my own carry after watching this, I have a rovyvon carabiner with a multi bit screwdriver and a removable blade holding my keys and a victorinox jet setter and then a slim leather wallet with a lever-gear tool card pro in it 👌 also, I am just starting dialysis whilst waiting for a kidney and pancreas transplant and four hours a day three days a week gets a bit tedious but you make it so much easier with all your videos, thank you so much and God bless 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I've used folded 3x5 and 4x6 cards as minimalist note cards for a while now. It's the best I've found for on-the-go notes without excess material. They also come in thicker stocks that common index cards, which is a nice upgrade.
As I hone in on carrying as little as possible, the Victorinox Pioneer has been my 1 stop shop for knife/tools. Phone, wallet, keys, flashlight, Pioneer. Being a 2 handed slip joint less than 3” it’s virtually legal everywhere but tsa, schools, and government buildings. If I feel the need for more knife, I add an IWB fixed blade. If I’m working with tools I add a Rebar to my belt. Pioneer has enough screw driving, good shimmy/jimmy/pry tool, a good size knife and a robust poking tool. Knipex cobra xs live in my back pack, OCCASIONALLY I will just slip them in my pocket instead of going full Rebar. But I just don’t have a spot on person for pliers to be comfortable enough that my EDC is virtually unnoticeable. As soon as I try to work pliers in I can’t find that sweet spot.
I've been giving heavy consideration to wallets, recently. I need to have an ID badge readily visible at work, so I've been looking at wallets/badge-holders with outward-facing ID windows and which can also be suspended on a lanyard. I'm leaning heavily towards the Chums Surfshort Wallet. It comes with a keyring that I will likely re-purpose for a lanyard connection. Love the channel!
I’m so envious of the simple key organizers. My EDC keys have too many oddball shapes to fit a straight bar key organizer and every attempt at trying has failed miserably. Also, I noticed the S-Biner on the keychain pliers; such an under appreciated gadget! I feel like I should own stock in those by now 😂
Try BIG SKINNY wallets, the nylon microfiber options with RFID bloking protection. The New Yorker option will do what your leather wallet does much better, less weight and bulk. I'm just a satisfied costumer after more than 7 years of use.
Another Big Skinny user here. Found one randomly at a craft Faire years ago. Super thin, light, easy to use, and amazingly durable. It's the longest lasting wallet I've ever owned.
Love the set up. I haven’t had a wallet made from leather since the ridge came out. Definitely worth checking out Question. What carabiner do to use to hold this all together. And what side you clip to ex: right hip left etc etc. side note newly subscribed, and LOVE the content. Wished I found this channel sooner. Very insightful, would have saved me a few dollars. But I do love your philosophy on edc and you don’t shove what we should buy down our throats.
Thanks so much for your content! I’ve just recently gotten into EDC, and I’ve been binge watching your videos! Very helpful!! Question: Are there any “middle ground” multitool sheaths you would recommend for those of us who aren’t ready to break the bank on Tale of Knives?
My wallet have same idea design(but i make it by myself), i don't have a problem with a key, i just use only one from my home it goes together with Nitecore Thumb holding together with rubber ring. I lost my multitool what was ganzo g104s but i feel fine without it. And most fun part of my kit - its Tajima boxcutter knife. I have bunch of different knives in my collection benchmade, zt, some customs ect. but i dont use this blades so much as 2$ boxcutter.

@williamli8708 you hit the nail on the head. Phones need juice. If, as Dom says, the phone is your #1 EDC item (and I agree with him), then you need to carry a way to recharge it. I currently carry: 1) the Lever Gear charge cable on my key ring, 2) the Fenix E-Spark in my card wallet. I also have a Clutch 5K battery bank that is pocketable if I know the Fenix won't be enough and there won't be a place to use the cable. You know what I'd like? To move everything from the keyport to a single-sided (no pliers) modular multi-tool, say a Goat. That's your "keychain", and add a multi-tool with pliers when you need to, but all on the same platform.
Do TSA agents really know and follow the rules regarding knives and multitools? I can see them confiscating anything resembling "dangerous". Even if the multitool doesn't have a blade and you removed the exacto blade, TSA isn't exactly the most discerning agency.
