You had success again today. I love the shot of the thistle plant. You did capture the smoke. You always find the shot. Kudos.

Lovely images again , those trees through the smoke make a great image , the 200 is perfect for those close ups of plants 😊

Thank you Christine, the 200mm has been a fun one to use, it’s hard to beat the compression and image isolation, well worth the little bit of money I paid for it :)

Another Great Production, David. Your never lost for great images . I beleive it was back in June, when all the smoke from Quebec/Montreal was blowing through New England. Kept me indoors and off my bake for some time. Thanks for some more ideas. KB

Thank you Ken, I’m looking forward to the arrival of autumn, a few rain showers should clear things up pretty quickly:)

Nice video David! Kudos to you for forging on even when the conditions aren't ideal! Fires in every direction around me and very unhealthy smoke conditions! The nearest fire - the "Oregon Fire" (named for Oregon Road) near Elk, WA. Is only 10 miles away! Last I heard it was up to 9000 acres burned. The "Grey Fire" in Medical Lake, WA. is the biggest right now and even made the national news. It's out near Turnbull NWR, where I usually photograph and film my videos. Its done a lot of damage. Luckily it has been sprinkling this morning and is supposed to rain more later, so maybe that will help with containing some of these fires! Stay safe and try not to inhale!

Thanks Brent, it’s been pretty tough photography conditions, the fires seem to have started earlier than usual this year, we also have a fire about 10 miles from town, not nearly as big as yours but to close to areas I’d like to be making photos in, most of our smoke is coming from other fires in the county and a neighboring county, our one saving grace that gives us some relief from smoke is I live about 70 miles from the Pacific Ocean, so we when conditions are right we get an onshore flow that helps push back the smoke, unfortunately these conditions are temporary so the smoke will return pretty regularly with the change of pressure systems. The only way to clear things up here is the change of season, so in about a month we should be past this as long as we get the rain we typically get, fingers crossed :)

I liked the the blackberry image. Growing up in Seattle where they are something of a weed to missing them now that I live in the Boise area.

Oh they are a weed for sure here, they can quickly take over an area, I guess on the bright side, at least they produce a tasty treat in the summer. Lol

You always seem to find those shots which are buried among the chaos and pull out winners! Excellent images!

Nice landscape picture with the smoke it give it a depth. You have a good 200mmF4 lens and I need to use my 200mmF2 VR, more, I'm 64 year old and work as a RF Engineer. Been taking pictures since the 70ties but I was never good. I worked a lot in darkroom during my university years and after that I took a lot of courses in photography, nature photo and studio photo. I went digital 2007-2012 with a D300 and replace most of my lenses except an AF300mmF2.8 Screw drive AF and a 85mmF2.8 PC lens and I was at my best during those years. Lost tempo and did not develop as a photographer since then, but I study art, old photography mostly book and on UA-cam. I currently update my F-system before retirement to D850 standard, including my workstation from 2006, after my D300 broke down 2 year ago. I still interested in B/W. I kept my MF equipment that I got 2nd hand during 2008-2010.. I will get a 18mm lens this autumn.

    Hi Dave.
When you still worked for a newspaper, did you also work according to this principle?
One sharp subject and the rest less sharp?
I find this way of working interesting and will give it a try.
Your photos look good especially those in the square format.
This is a format that I regularly use myself.
    Thank you for this video.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones and stay safe.
    Antoine.

One sharp subject and the rest less sharp, I don’t think that was something I consciously strived for when doing journalism, life happens fast, :) my goal was to have enough sharp to tell the story, rarely I would need something sharp front to back but sharp enough to understand the photo. I used a lot of wide angle for my news photography so I never worried about having enough depth of field, when I used telephoto, I was more concerned with how much was sharp, but if stopping the action was a factor then sometimes less depth of field was going to be what was needed. My photography subjects are a lot different now, l use shallow depth of field as a creative choice, now days when I bracket an image, I’m bracketing for depth of field because that can give a very different feel to the photo. Even with traditional landscape, I don’t mind having Sharpness fall off some, either front or back, depending on the scene or subject, a sure way to have your photography look like everyone else’s photos, is to all ways make your shots sharp front to back Lol these are the creative choices we get to make when making our photographic art. Do what you like and experiment a lot Antoine :)
