Today marks the day our brother James Sullivan passed away 9 years ago. We have put together a small video of outtakes from the “Almost Easy” recording sessions for you to enjoy. Thank you for all the kind wishes on this day. - A7X

4:31 that little extra hit on the turnaround makes it so much more natural and engaging where a lot of other drummers would have left a breath of open space to compensate for the change. Little things like that are indicative of the FEEL with which the Rev played.
Jimmy is and will forever be my favorite drummer.

That is what happen when songs are written off of and around the drums.
Love the ride and crash hits in the verse, they really accentuate the vocal melody and give it a lot of punch.

I was seriously put in some kind of trance just watching him play. He just lures you in and makes you stop doing what you’re doing so you can just watch him go mental on those drums. We miss you, Jimmy. 🤘🏼
As someone who was introduced to A7X after the rev`s passing, and who only really enjoyed maybe about half of the songs from each album upto nightmare, i was slightly sad when i learned about the rev`s passing, but i had never given much thought about his skills as a drummer, but this video has shown me that the guy was actually an incredible drummer, capable of arriving at the studio, and casually dropping an entire awesome drum fill in one take and with no warmup or redos... I genuinly feel like the rev has shown more skill in this song (or at the very least in his time with A7X) than certain more famous drummers (*cough* Lars Ulrich *cough*) in their entire careers. Rest in peace Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.

I'll always be the first person to shit on Lars, espessially these days, considering he's openly admitted to not practicing... But you're on some absolute bullshit if you think that he wasnt AT ONE TIME one of the best metal drummers in the game.
Justice (and the tour supporting it) is excellence in technical metal drumming. Let's give credit where it IS due. Shitting on Lars is low-hanging fruit at this point.

@@hanifzahirul Lol, what is funny about that link... That was my son and I's first UA-cam channel for just checking out this UA-cam thing and to upload our editing things I, then we would do. I had broken it into 3 parts because the short UA-cam video limit. Then my son saw when they let you go to like 2 hours and reloaded the whole thing, that one there. We were the ONLY ones for a long time that had the full, original quality version of this. In fact, for awhile, Avengedsevenfold.com linked this through their site. Then, one day, they made the Avenged Sevenfold UA-cam and put it there again and obviously, that took most the views from our channel but, was really fucking cool to have an internet exclusive posted for a pretty long time. I don't know why TWENTYFOURCORE didn't have it posted in an OFFICIAL manner like that. We video grabbed from their web site when it first came out and after so long, they didn't have it available anymore for awhile.

Me too. Nightmare would be good still but different. I now like the fact they have the raw emotion in it. You could tell Matt was hurt and angry in ALOT of the vocals on that album... Victim... BY FAR THE MOST emotional vocals on the LP.

I can't help wonder how Avenged Sevenfold would be today if Jimmy hadn't passed away. It's strange, I don't think we'd have some of the incredible songs we have from The Stage, but how many other incredible songs would we have? Though I'm sure during writing they frequently think "what would Jimmy do here?" and I'm sure he'd be proud of what they've produced in the last 10 years. Almost 10 years since Jimmy left us, holy fucking shit, that's insane.

I just visited the Revs grave in Huntington Beach. Truly amazing. I placed a white rose on his tombstone. Thank you for everything... you truly were an inspiration.. and some of the songs you wrote got me through my worse days. All a7x fans truly miss you and thank you Jimmy. 🥺❤️

The good Shepard cemetery in Huntington Beach. Look up on UA-cam.. some guys visit the grave and that’s how I found his grave.. his grave isnt hard to find.. but it was worth every damn minute and paying my respects for jimmy. ❤️

Oh god, thank you so much for this! As one of the many people who Jimmy somehow inspired, i was always looking for drumcam-like footage of him. I began playing drums mostly inspired by Jimmy, and at times im still amazed at how effortlessly he does those Jimmy-kind-of-things, like the double ride, or singing while playing, being Critical Acclaim or A Little Piece of Heaven prime examples of that, and watching this video now is like... damn... he is truly missed, for sure :(

I have been listening to avenged sevenfold since i'm 13 and now i'm 28 and still listening to them, and it still feels like it just happened when jimmy passed on. 9 years has passed and Jimmy aka The Rev will always still be dearly missed and remembered.
Because he was a genuinely unique soul that cared about people and made his music as a gift for us all... selfless. Jimmy was and is A7X...

I've always wanted to hear what Almost Easy would have sounded like had they gone with this particular drum take, so I took a drums only version of the song and comp'd it to try and match exactly what Jimmy plays in this video. Then I took a drumless version of the song and did my best to line it up with the drums I comp'd. The end result is like a studio drum playthrough by Jimmy!

For all those asshats out there that say he wasn't that good or he was just an average drummer. They don't take into consideration that MOST drummers don't write and compose most of the bands music. Last point is, not many drummers can go lay down an entire track in ONE take (the first take usually) as Jimmy could. I am SO glad and thankful we have Brooks now but there was only ONE Reverend Tholomew Plague!!!! AKA Jimmy Owen sullivan...

Yeah! Many drummer does re-takes and if they would record the whole song in one take they prob wouldn't be able to do it the first take!
Plus doing it in the morning without even doing any rudiment drum warm ups, I can play this song without trouble(Maybe except or the double kick and ride fill) but certainly would not be able to record it in one take early in the morning with out warming up my feet and hands with a few rudiments
