Years ago I went food shopping with my two children. The bill was low. They did not charge for the diapers and I mentioned it and paid for them. My older one asked why I didn’t keep quiet and I told her it was stealing. She now is grown up and a mother. That money was the best I ever spent because it was a life lesson and developed her character.

I volunteer at a charity bookstore. I recently found $1100.00 (9/100&4/$50.00) in a book that had been just donated. I was able to identify the owner because she was still in the store. She was so surprised and said she was going to have a talk with her husband. Wish I could have witnessed that discussion.😉😊😁

My husband found 5 pounds on the street. No one was around to ask if they lost it. He gave it to me, so I used it to buy food for a food bank.
A couple of weeks later, he found another 5 pounds on another street. So I did the same, praying that God would bless the person who lost it because they may have really needed it.

I agree! Other UA-camrs are giving ppl anxiety in this category. You never have enough, you’re not frugal enough, you are not dumpster diving, you don’t have any side hussles, you are not prepped and stocked with thousands of dollars in MRE ready meals that must be in hundreds of dollars of containers and labels; and canned goods. You don’t have a walk in pantry with all organic homemade preserves and 12 cans of everything. You are too cheap with food, and you see $600 of groceries being purchased bulk to save long-term. It goes on and on. Its great seeing different things, but the fear mongering, and massive prep storing is getting to be too much now instilling fear. It creates a sort of inner silent panic. So it’s not just me seeing this trend.

I don't tip nor do I take extra condiments because I don't eat out anymore. For the prices that are charged for something as simple as a hamburger, I can make SEVERAL cheaper at home. I have no desire to eat out anymore. I plan my meals for the week and buy accordingly.

    • @terryhenderson424
      @terryhenderson424 Місяць тому +6

Something we have done is estimate about how much it would cost to eat out then hit the grocery store with that amount of a single meal budget. After once at a slightly nicer grocery store (and to think we once shopped like this), we how head to one of a particular chain of discount grocery stores where they have quite a variety of foods with some being more upper end-ish and others being standard grocery fair. We allow ourselves to buy a bigger container which will provide a second meal or two. But the "purpose" is to allow ourselves to wander the aisles with our taste buds out front; no stocking up allowed even if it is a super price. We have had some great meals this way; FAR better than many of the casual dining places.

I walked the neighborhood with my grandfather everyday for 32 years. He found a state trooper's wallet with his ID, badge, and $80 cash in it. When we got to his apartment he was frantically searching his squad car for it. My grandfather "Pappaw" what I called him, asked if he was looking for it. They remained friends from that day on. The trooper took us out for dinner at Cracker Barrel and ended up helping me learn how to drive when I was 16. He was going to be in real trouble if he couldn't find his badge. We found a total of about $800 in small bills and Coins in 32 years. Pappaw kept it in coffee tins and I cashed it in after he passed away. Honesty is always best.

I will never forget the moment my mother was given back more change than she was owed (1970's cash purchase with me and my aunt). Mom realized it when we walked out of the store on our way to the car - they both immediately went back in and let the sales person know the error. My parent's example is always embedded in my memory. Thank you for sharing this video - so important in our society today.

Agree with most of it. Except in NYC the going rate that couples want per person is $300 a person as a gift. I’m on social security, that’s impossible for me. Now I am seeing baby shower lists that consist of the same range. That’s the ok for the future grandparents to give, but not for guests.

Wow, that's incredible! I'm widowed and on social security too and there's no way I could give such expensive gifts. I have fifteen family members to whom I give $25 each for birthdays and $25 each for Christmas. That's $750 annually. I love giving them cash as presents, as my grands have gotten older and I just don't know what to buy. I save $75 each month for these cash presents and the difference is spent on my Sunday School Class, friends, etc. Glad I don't live in NYC. Diane in NC

I walked to the counter and looked down. There were many many $100.00 bills all over the floor. I started picking them up and stated to worker " I cant catch him" being in a leg brace I cant move quickly. I picked up more than 10 and started walking out to give to the man. He paid for my gas. It never occurred to me to keep the money.

A small item had slipped under my purse in the grocery cart at the checkout earlier this year. I didnt find it until I loaded my groceries into my car. I trudged back through the sleet into the store to the same clerk at the register. And waited my turn to pay for the item. I remember it was an envelope of meat seasoning and cost about $2.50. I recall telling the lady I didn't want that on my conscience when I met my maker in the next life! I enjoy having money and nice things but I want my own that I have earned or given to me freely. You're so spot on! There is a huge difference between being thrifty and being miserly or even cost shifting. One time when we had a big celebration, one of us brought a honey-baked ham. These things are very expensive, and this one person asked to take the bone home. Well, my grandmother was not having it and she said, "And what do you plan for this wonderful ham bone?" and (being that we're as French as the Versailles) said, "Cassoulet, of course." And my Grandmother, never missing a beat said, "Wonderful! We're all invited over to your home for Cassoulet tomorrow. I'll bring bread." And that shut things down immediately. All this person was really doing was shifting the cost of this marvelous meat onto someone else.
After everyone had gone home and Grandmother and I were cleaning up ( including putting the ham bone in the refrigerator,) I asked her why she did that, and she explained that she had seen this particular relative do such things over and over when indeed they had plenty of resources to contribute much more generously than they did.
My Grandmother survived 2 wars and a depression and deeply learned the difference between thrift and miserliness. Indeed, miser and miserable are variants of the same word and not accidentally.

We once found a wallet on top of a car one Christmas Eve. There was over £200 in it which was an awful lot of money in the early 80’s. I took most of the evening going through the local phone book ringing each one with the same name (it was an unusual name) asking each one if someone had lost anything that afternoon. By 7pm I found the very grateful owner, a mother who tearfully explained exactly what she had lost and where. It was her Christmas shopping rent money and after losing the wallet, she had to borrow money from her relatives to cover it. By 8pm she, her husband and their 2 children came by to pick it up. She was still overwhelmed by our honesty and brought a beautiful basket of fruit for us. I have to say handing back the wallet that year made our Christmas.

As a special gift for my husband’s 70th birthday I bought him a gold chain to use with his favorite cross. When I arrived home I realized that the store had charged me $65 instead of $650. The store was closed and I counted the minutes until I could get there the minute they opened the next day so they could correct the charge. It was entirely possible that the sales clerk’s job could have been on the line for a mistake like that. To say the manager was shocked would be an understatement.

Hi Emmie and Paul from the North of the UK! I have an Instant Pot and the most amazing thing I have found to do is to be able to cook meat from frozen. It takes a smidge longer but if I have forgotten to defrost the night before I can put it straight into the IP cover it in sauce and around 10 mins later it is done e. My favourite is Chicken Satay ! Chicken pieces of any type, coconut milk, peanut butter, small amount of onion and a little BBQ sauce to spice it up. Yummy. The IP is a God send and save me so much fuel, energy and time. Thank you for your beautiful videos, I wait eagerly to see what you are doing next. Love from the northern UK seaside x

I never used the instapot! I donated it but boy, do I use my slow cookers! I have a casserole style, a small and a large regular style ones and a 2 qt that's wonderful for side dishes! I got rid of many small appliances because I have the Ninja 9 in 1 oven that does lots of things, but the air fryer, toasting and convection settings get used so many times! It Cooks great and saves tons by not turning on the stove. Plus, many small appliances got donated!

Here's a few alternatives to donating to thrift stores. How about a shelter, or a refugee center, or a no-buy store? Or (my favorite) posting on your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. It's especially fun to bless a neighbor with an item and make a personal connection. Thrift stores require people to spend money and I prefer to give my items to people who can receive them for free. Also, a lot of what gets donated to thrift stores ends up in landfills. I know you and Paul are extremely generous people. Just wanted to add my suggestions to the mix!

Thanks for another great video! I think everything comes down to the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you owned a store, you would want people to be honest. And, waitressing is hard work and tips are the bulk of their salary. Be kind and tip appropriately.
Not currently using my Insta-Pot but may need to get it back out! That looked easy and delicious!!

Everything you’ve said is spot on and I think you are being too nice about “if you do this no judgement.” I will 100% judge someone being cheap in many of the ways you describe-especially stealing which is what some of the items you mention are. It tells me who you are as a person and you aren’t a good one if you do that. It shows me you are dishonest, likely not nice, and have no regard for anyone but yourself. Those aren’t people I personally would want to surround myself w/. You are the company you keep. Also when someone shows me who they are, I believe them the first time.

    Hi Emmy & Paul. 😊
This was a great video. I loved all the points you made, especially what you said about being undercharged at the checkout and not keeping quiet about it. It's just being dishonest to not let the store know that you weren't charged for a couple of items.
I also loved what you said about tipping. I do tip, but it annoys me that waiters should have to rely on the tips they get in order to earn enough money to live on. They should be paid a good wage for the work they do. I'm pleased to see in the UK that more and more restaurants etc are beginning to include the service charge automatically. The customer can object to paying it if they really weren't given a good service and have been genuinely upset. Otherwise, everyone has to pay the service charge that's included in their bill.
Keep up these wonderful videos. I love them!
God bless you both. I hope you have a wonderful week. ❤

Oh Emmy, I agree with you 100% on what you said. I can't believe how shocked employees and managers are when you tell them they undercharged you and want to pay what you owe them. I just say I would tell you if you overcharged me, so only right to be honest & pay when undercharged. I also think that waiters should get paid a decent wage and no tipping policy at restaurants, but since that is not how it is, if I can afford to eat out, I can afford to give a decent tip. I have so much to declutter and have done it fairly regularly. I like to donate clothes, purses, etc. to shelters where items are given to people not charged for, but other things to thrift stores or people needing or wanting them. That meal looks delicious, and we use our instant pot a lot. We do have a lid (bought separately) for it to be used as a slow cooker also, but since the pressure cooking is so fast, seldom use it. Thank you for being uplifting, warm and friendly on your channel and not scary. We need more of you and Paul for sure!! God bless you!

I was a server for about 3 months, my brain is not wired to do multiple things at once! I have always tipped well just because i never made a lot doing that job.
20 years ago I learned how to crochet with thread and began an obsession. I was going through a divorce and the death of my mother, so it really helped me cope. I was invited to a family wedding on my mom's side, and her aunts all encouraged me to go and get out of the house, it was one of the fanciest events i have ever been to. We all giggled about being the country bumpkins in the big city! I made 24 crocheted snowflakes as a present since I didn't have a job at the time, so afraid it wasnt nice enough. I actually talked to the cousin that recieved them this past spring and he told me they are still using them and talk about them with their kids. Made my day and made me cry!

After my mom passed away, I went through her house and got rid of all the things that I did not think that I would use or want to keep. My father still lives in the house, so I made sure these were things that I knew he would not use either. This year, I am going through the house again and getting rid of all the things that I did not use this past year. While I am at it, I am going through all of my husband and I's stuff too and getting rid of all the things we don't use either and all the things that we have two or three of the same things. Also, a local Amish dairy that we go to was asking for donations of crafting items and I have already sent one large bag of yarn to them and am going threw more items to send their way again. I have more than I can ever use, so I am happy to pass it onto others that can use it.

Years ago I went in to the local grocery store to get a money order. The cashier counted back my change and I told her she had given me 100.00 too much. She counted again. The way she counted sounded right but I knew how much change I should have gotten back. She went and got the manager. The MANAGER counted it back and came up with the same amount as the cashier and they were insistent they were correct. So I left my phone number and told them, when she counts her drawer down tonight and if it’s wrong, you know where the money is. That night, the manager sheepishly called and said… you were right. I told them I would be right there. Yes, I could have just said “ok” and went on but I knew that cashier’s drawer was going to be off a hundred dollars and it was going to possibly cost her job or she would have to pay it back. I know a lot of people would have said… I tried and they were insistent… but with it being that much, I just couldn’t do it.

Wow guys! this video knocked it out of the park! I am so thrilled you are using your Instantpot. Its my BF in the kitchen too! Its truly a Godsend in the kitchen. Iv not used my Crockpot in a long time. The only tried and true tests I have done where the Crock is a must is if you need tender shredded pork for pulled pork. I tried it in InstantPot and no matter if it was fall off the bone, it was chewy not melting in your mouth. It happed with beef stew as well. Any stringy fibrous meat. You can speed up the cooking in the Instant Pot but finish those in the oven or a Crock.
My first Crockpot, the inside cracked. I had no idea you could replace it! I may have thrown the outer part out. Not sure.
Now for the tips you gave us, I agree. I have been blessed with discounts and cheaper scans in the past but only knew once home. I fix it if I see it because I do believe in getting a just reward later on. And as a cashier they might get into trouble not balancing their cash. Very good points!
For the decluttering, boy I could have used a couple of those things. I have a tough time letting go of things. Because I am not in a position to buy them again if I need them. Or they are nostalgic etc…I decluttered a lot since 2015, but I am swimming in my craft supplies. I cannot declutter those as they get used slowly, but over time. I wish I had a “dreamcloset” to store it all. That would solve the craft clutter spread over 3 rooms.
My cookbooks are not something I can part with. Its tough because I picked them and I use most of them. Whatever I let go of, I need to sell mostly because its my situation. I am not in a good place with money so every penny is something I need to save. I will give things away when I can and wish I could Santa Claus everything. It would be so much easier honestly. I realized last year after a near death experience, I needed to do some serious Swedish death cleaning to not burden anyone if I go. Iv not decluttered much this year but in the fall I hope to. It feels great to do it. We can’t take it all with us. What stops me is also how overwhelming it is on your own, and my very very poor back that does not cooperate.
Iv not gone thrifting once this year, because iv not decluttered. That is the deal I made, though I miss it terribly.
I make a similar recipe and heard of this million dollar pasta going viral but never checked it out. I use philly cheese often in place of cream in pasta dishes. But I need to try it in the Instantpot! I do it in a large pan on the stove top usually, adding kettle boiled water in small amounts, and it needs more water to cook raw pasta this way but half of what you would boil it in. I stopped boiling pasta on the side. The only time I boil it now is if its stuffed pasta, or I make alot of sauce. Otherwise its wayyyyyy easier and pasta is tastier cooked in sauce than water. Im gonna try using the Instant pot 4mins for pasta now! Thanks for showing us! we need more recipes like this.
PS:throw a kitchen towel over the spout to release your steam if you have not done so, if ur in a rush. When I can preserves, I can’t waste time so this is how I do it. It won’t splatter or spritz but your towel gets humid. It feels safer to release like this too unless u have time for a slow release.

As for the question of the day ... I have a different brand of electric pressure cooker - it's a multi-cooker that does slow cook, pressure cooker, sous vide, and a few more things. For the pressure cooker, I use it when processing apples or pears for pear / apple butter (3 batches will get me through 20lbs of fruit). It really speeds up the breaking down time, and it's easier, but once it's broken down, I blend in the pot with the immersion blender and then dump it into my larger stock pot ... it still needs simmered to reduce to the right texture.
I love using it for lentils (I pressure can beans, but lentils do better cooked fresh).
And sous vide beef roast and salmon are both THE BEST way to have each meat. 😊

I would describe these things as unethical and a lack of integrity, rather than cheap. Some of these things are basically theft. I love that you're covering these things! It's nice to know you have integrity 😊
When it comes to the rare times I eat out, I tend to only do that when I have extra in the budget so I tip bigger simply to make up for those who don't. Do I agree in establishments not paying a decent wage and below minimum wage? No. But the employee shouldn't suffer because of that. So I give because God gave to me.

Money was sticking out, I opened it up and there were 6/$100.00 bills in it. No phone number on the checks so I went to the office and asked for the manager. 60 years ago, we did not know what frugal was
I came from a family of seven and my mom would always tell us our place for dinner. She said if we wanted more that was fine, but she didn’t want us to waste it.
At Easter time, she would boil up a dozen and a half eggs and we would color them
Only like the yolks and other ones only like the white rule that you could not have an egg unless you found someone to share it with she said she got tired of eating egg salad made with all white or all yolks
