Romaine I find doesn't go bad as fast as iceberg either PLUS if you trim off the brown bottom of romaine put in water in sunny spot it starts regrowing new leaves. One is gotten a few leaves started plant In soil. Iceberg can do it but tend to take longer to regrow. Plus, it seems to rot more often during a regrowth attempt

I don't have case lot sales in OH but we do have amish stores within an hours drive where I get my bulk grains. I did get butter for $3/lb a flat of canned corn and another flat of green beans at 50c each from Meijer's in the beginning of December. Cream cheese is usually a great price this time of year, I get about 12 bars and freeze them along with the butter to last all year.

I use paper towels as seldom as possible. The problem with that greasy tray is that that grease that you wash off after wiping it with the butter wrapper ends up in your pipes. I’ve seen videos on it.

Another tip. I throw out no organic waste. I collect and pulverize in my Vitamix grinding container with water and year round pour into my plants. Haven't bought fertilizer in 6 years. Egg shells with so much calcium prevent bottom tomato rot.

I never knew dishwashers had filters that could be cleaned. Apparently, my mother didn’t know, either.
Her house was immaculate at all times. Not a day went by that she wasn’t cleaning something, somewhere.
Where I currently reside, the only dishwasher is myself, but if I ever live somewhere with the actual appliance, I will thank you for the filter-cleaning tip.

Really appreciate all the money saving tips, Tawra.
I am passing these shows on to my grown sons and their families.
We have been picking up DVD movies at Yard Sales or Thrift stores. Watching them and then reselling them in our annual Garage sale, so we get the money back or make a little extra depending on how much we originally paid! Going out to a movie theater has become so ridiculously expensive- even without buying any treats at the snack bar. And most of the new movies have been bad anyway. So....We are enjoying old James Bond movies, Clint Eastwood westerns, movies from the 70's and 80's, PBS British murder mysteries- stuff like that.

There is no reason you need to wash your rags. I don't wash my nasty or gooey ones at all - I just throw them out the same way I do paper towels. I don't understand why people are afraid to throw them out the same way you do paper towels and the rags I don't even pay for the they way you do paper towels. Just cut up old t shirts, use and toss.

They work wonderfully for $1.25!! Also, I put my candles in the freezer for an hour or so to get old candles out of a glass jar. They slide right out when frozen.

So many of my rags wind up in the shop or barn, ever see a mechanics greasy rag? Once they wind up in the shop, there is no way I could ever use them in the house. SO.....I got a fantastic deal on a bundle of 50 microfiber rags, 3 different colors. The pink ones are used for bathrooms, the yellow for the kitchen, not dishes, and the blue for the rest of the house. I bought a bundle of black dish cloths and towels just for my cast iron. My red and white dish and tea towels are for my daily kitchen chores like dishes and counters. The only time we use paper towels is for things we clean after using them with cattle, like vaccine guns.

Just recently watched one of your videos and subscribed. Many of your tips are things I was taught by my mother growing up. I really enjoy watching you share them with your subscribers. Great information and ideas to pass along to others. Our entire family is made up of several generations of frugal people. Nothing ever went to waste. My mother used brown paper sacks our groceries came in to drain fried foods when I was growing up and even those didn't go to waste after that. They were twisted up and used as fire starter in the fire place, or in the fire pit outside. A few family members who used paper towels to drain bacon or friend foods when they became a thing in later years, they also used them as fire starters as well. I've used the plastic inner food liner and packaging bags like the cereal bags you used in one of your videos for years now. Used paper filters, coffee grounds, egg shells, and all food peels, skins, etc. go into the compost bin. Not even a table spoon or two of vegetables or meat went to waste, because my mother kept a plastic sealable container in the freezer with all of these small amounts of leftovers in until it was full. Then it because vegetable soup or stew for another meal. It warms my heart to see lots of other people out there still doing the same things, being wise and resourceful in a world full of too much waste! Looking forward to binge watching many of your other videos. Blessings to you.

I just did a search about using bleach if you have a septic system. For disinfecting, use no more than 3/4 cup. But it's not really a good thing because it kills the beneficial bacteria that keeps your system working as it should. A couple things recommended instead are salt, vinegar, Borax, used independently, I assume. Salt sounds like a good option maybe a long with some baking soda. It should polish and disinfect at the same time.

You can drain your bacon on newspaper. I like to take my meat out of the bought package and vacuum pack it.. I don't worry about removing the bottom soaking pad if it doesn't come off easily but just remove it when unthawing it 😊. Also if you have pets, especially long haired ones, it's important to clean your dishwasher filter often as it can ruin the dishwasher.

When I do use paper towels for cookouts as napkins.i save them. I wash and dry in sun then I use them to collect tomato seeds. I cut tomatoes on a plate and inevitably get seeds in juicy mix. I've weighed the tomato and sop up the viscous seed mix onto paper towels. I dry out the paper towel. Note weight of tomato and save the seeds. When planting I take the dried sheets out, picked ones that are from biggest tomatoes. Done this for 10 years never a problem and my yield is amazing. Seeds are expensive mine are free.

Please do not use baking soda on your hair if you have colour in your hair, if your hair is white or silver or gray or has never been coloured ….it might be OK if you have oily hair . I’m a hairdresser and if you use baking soda in your hair all of your box Dye or hair colour that you paid hundreds of dollars for at the hairdresser will be stripped out. Baking soda is a clarifying /stripping prouduct. Think about when Tayra uses it to scrub or sanitize burnt on greasy dark or stain items 🫤 Baking soda is very very harsh on your “hair color”.❤

TAWRA, a TIP to defrost your meat. I put my frozen meat on a paper towel or plate then place in my microwave on the DEFROST SETTING for 3-6 minutes. Try the 3 minutes first and repeat if need. Don't over defrost the meat. Let your meat rest for 15-20 minutes in the microwave. This is the easiest and best way to defrost your meat with less mess. Note: don't over defrost or leave in microwave longer than 20 minutes because that would be unsafe.

I agree you can save money by coloring your own hair . But every so often you need to color your entire head because your color noticeably fades over time . Or you can have more expensive procedures done at a beauty school for small cost .

Hi Tawra. You should try using a laundry ball for clothes washing. One lasts a year or more for our family of 4 for probably $5.
We wash everything on cold too 👍🏻.
Saves the time $ & effort of buying detergent too

I had never heard of these. They sound interesting. Some people don't like them, but they get some good reviews too. If I can find them cheap enough, I might give them a try. Maybe they work better for things like towels and not for really dirty clothes?

Tawra you said "a napkin or something " why aren't you using cloth napkins. They're really cheap at 2nd hand. They also take very little space I use 2 per week per person.
